33 WAYS TO WEAR A SHORT CAMEL COAT

 Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! Happy first day of Winter! It's time to bid Autumn/Fall goodbye and welcome the coldest season. What does that mean for fashion? It's time to pull out our winter coats (if we already haven't) and our accessories. 

Speaking of winter coats, today post is going to be devoted to one camel coat. My husband bought this coat for me in 2019 in some department store in Germany. Thank you sir husband! Initially, I was a bit worried that the coat in camel colour (that is so close to my natural skin colour) will wash me out, but I ended up wearing this coat a lot. Now, it's one of most worn coats in my wardrobe. 

In this post, I'll show you 33 different ways to style this coat. I'll also talk a bit about the camel colour. Is camel a shade of orange or brown? I found opposing views on the topic. Perhaps there are two versions of it: camel orange and camel brown. I did take art courses, but I didn't actually study art traditionally, so I'm not exactly confident in my knowledge on colours and colour theory.

 I do like learning about colours, so one day I might be able to confidently answer this question. For the time being, it doesn't seem urgent to know what camel is. A shade of brown or orange, camel has a great fashion potential, especially in the colder months when it can add elegance to outfits. Adding camel to our winter outfits can help make our winter fashion palette less depressive by adding warmth.

 Camel is a type of orange color. In its meaning, orange is associated with energy, cheerfulness, activity, fire and warmth. Similar to yellow, orange takes the liveliness of it up a notch, while adding many aspects of red associated with warmth, as related to the color of flames. It also stimulates action rather than contemplation, promotion actions and events over thinking and contemplations. LET'S START WITH THE MOST RECENT STYLING, WHEN MY OUTFIT PHOTOS WERE PHOTO BOMBED BY TWO CATS!

I'll go back to this styling in this post. I must admit I'm not sue whether I wore this outfit for a walk around town or for work. It might be either. My bw black and white dress code has started to influence my off work outfits as well.  Anyhow, I enjoyed this outfit and that's what matters. It seems our cats approved as well. Whether they liked the outfit or the sight of me, I'm not entirely sure. At the moment, I'm feeding four of my neighbour cats and they seem to think they have two multiple owners- or perhaps better to say they seem to think they own multiple people. You know what they say about cats not having owners, but rather owning people. Perhaps the cat logic is- Why tie down if you don't have to? The more friends, the merrier. They are very cute cats, and I'm very happy when they see me off every morning I go to work and every afternoon/ evening when I come back from work. It's nice to have someone greet us when we back home, isn't? They are also very cuddly. Not all cats are like that, but these cats are.  You have already seen them on my blog. I think I've been posting occasional shots of them now and then, since the September. Three of them are biological family- the grey ones. The grey coat has two daughters that look almost identical. There's also this white and grey kitten that is not related to them at all. The grey and white kitten was a stray,  but he was adopted by the mother cat when he was little and they all live together now. 

Now that we have taken a moment to appreciate the cats, we can return to the topic of this post and that is 33 ways to style this coat. These posts are always so time consuming, but I do enjoy these trips down the memory lane. 33 WAYS TO WEAR A SHORT CAMEL COAT

#1 & #2 IN THIS MULTIPLE OUTFITS POST from 2021 (the last two looks in the post feature this coat!)  I love to show different ways to wear a clothing item.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #1, A CAMEL COAT WORN WITH A SKATER DRESS AND BROWN BOOTS

Check out  two ways to wear this short camel coat. A great way to jazz up a coat is to style it with a fun scarf, shawl or a pashmina. This is also a great way to add some colour into your wardrobe. If you don't have enough coloured or pattern coats, remember that you can add colour to any coat by throwing something over it. Another item you can accessorize is boots. Here I wore my old boots with faux fur warmers that came with another pair of boots. You can accessorize your boots in a number of ways or you can simply pair them with fun leg warmers, tights or socks. Winter gives us many options for fun layering and makes re-wearing things easy. I wore this cute outfit for a visit for Čapljina city. 

OUTFIT NUMBER #2 : A CAMEL COAT WORN WITH A SEMI PLEATED SKIRT, COMFORTABLE WALKING BOOTS AND A BURGUNDY JACKET

As you can see, I wore the camel coat from my previous outfit, but also the brown boots I wear all the time. I also wore a Bellissima semi pleated skirt, a burgundy jacket and pale blue skirt ( two items I bought in Mana, while I was still living on island Hvar last year). This proved to be warm and a practical outfit.

OUTFIT NUMBER #3 A CAMEL COAT PAIRED WITH A PRINTED DRESS AND A FUN BEANIE 

This camel coat was a gift from my significant other and despite not being a fan of it initially, I've grown fond of this coat. It is a fast fashion item (the coat is from H&M), but  I have worn it amore than 30 times so it is sustainable now anyways. Anyhow, in this outfit you can see how I paired these two items with a summer purple geometric print dress I have had for ages (see how I wore it here, here, here and here). Styling summer items in autumn and winter isn't as hard as it may seem, it's all about layering them right. 

OUTFIT NUMBER #4:  A CAMEL COAT WORN WITH A WHITE SHIRT, A LONG GREEN VEST AND NAVY FLARES

This winter styling is all about layering and accessories. Here I paired my favourite navy flares with a white shirt and a green vest. I have added an elegant scarf and a summer cap to add more colour. I really like how this outfit turned out, it was very comfortable and it looks nice. I think it proves we can add some fun into your cold weather outfits.

OUTFIT NUMBER #5:  A CAMEL COAT WORN WITH A MAXI GYPSY SKIRT PAIRED WITH A VINTAGE SWEATER AND HIGH BOOTS

I started my blogging journey by writing about fashion and sharing my outfits. These days I blog about a variety of topics but I still enjoy talking about clothes and outfits.  I always said (and I stand by word) is that the best part about clothes is creating stories with them. I rarely get bored of my clothes and I love coming up with different ways to style them. I think I always have. I genuinely enjoy shopping my closet, it's more than a passing trend for me. The older I get, the more I enjoy it. Moreover, I enjoy talking about clothes. I love learning new things about the fascinating relationship we have with clothes. Perhaps that is why I continue with my blogging journey- because I still have so many clothes related stories to share.

OUTFIT NUMBER #6- A CAMEL COAT WORN WITH A BLAZER, A SHIRT, A TIE AND A PAIR OF FLARE JEANS

I wore this outfit in 2021 for a stroll and a coffee date with my husband in Mostar city. I still like the look of it. The mix of casual items (jeans) and formal items (a blazer, a white shirt and a tie) worked really well in this one.

OUTFIT NUMBER #7- A CAMEL COAT STYLED WITH A PRINTED SCARF, A GREY/GRAY DRESS AND A PAIR OF HIGH BROWN BOOTS.

This outfit you can see in the collage below (on the left)  is composed of only four clothing items, but it was quite cozy nevertheless. OUTFIT #8 A CAMEL COAT WORN WITH A FLORAL SKIRT, BLACK BOOTS, AND SHOT IN FRONT OF KARTING KLUB RESTAURAN IN MOSTAR 

On the right you can see the outfit I wore for a lunch with my husband in a cult restaurant in Mostar. I wore a white foklore blouse, a beige coat, a floral skirt, a mini black bag and a new pair of boots I picked up in Borsa store in Mostar. I was in quite a good mood when there photographs were taken. I did this hairstyle myself (probably you're not surprised to learn that as I enjoy styling my own hair).

OUTFIT #9 A NEW CAMEL HAT TO MATCH MY CAMEL COAT AND A PLEATED BLUE SKIRT

The hat is new and it cost me only fifty cents. I wasn't planning on buying anything new but when I saw it, I thought why not? I wore my blue pleated skirt once again and accessorized with statement earrings.

OUTFIT #10: A LIGHT BEIGE SKIRT, A CAMEL COAT, A BLUE VELVET POLONECK, POINTY BOOTS, CROSSOVER BAG

I don't know if you can see, but I wore a vintage dark blue velvet poloneck under my coat. Being that it is  warm, this poloneck is  perfect for layering. I paired it with my camel coat and heeled pointy boots.  I love this pleated skirt, it's perfect for transitional layering. When it's a bit colder, I wear leggings under it and if it is warmer, then I wear opaques/tights.

OUTFIT #11: A LIGHT BEIGE SKIRT, A CAMEL COAT, A BLUE STRIPED TURTLENECK, POINTY BOOTS, CROSSOVER BAG

Let's talk colours first. While I do admit that black has its charm and remains classic for a reason, I personally love to see some light colour in the colour months. I decided to pair this pleated skirt with a beige coat. I figured that beige and camel would make for a lovely colour combination. For warmth, I wore a blue turtleneck sweater. This knit sweater proved a good choice. Besides it being very cozy, I also happen to like the cobalt shade of it. I never noticed how lovely cobalt blue looks with camel. I need to make a mental note of that, especially since my skin tone is very similar to camel which can make my face look washed out. I need to remember to wear turtlenecks or scarves in a more flattering colour when I choose camel.  That would be the story of the main pieces of this autumn/winter styling, let's now move onto details. I wore printed tights to add some visual interest and I paired them with square heels. This pair of shoes is second hand you could say (it was a gift)  but it is new to me. Square heels are in right now, so why not? This particular pair isn't the most comfortable choice but they look cute, don't they?

OUTFIT #12 A PAIR OF BLUE JEANS PAIRED WITH A BLAZER AND CAMEL COAT- Another outfit with this pair of blue jeans. I wore this for a lunch date with my husband in Romanca restaurant near Mostar. It was quite fresh that day, so I layered up. I wore more layers than I sometimes do in Winter. I believe in dressing for the weather, not for the season. I try to invoke the season with accessories or colours, but if it is cold, I'll dress the part.

This orange dress from Bellissima is quite versatile and very comfortable. I've had for a few years now. You can see how I styled this orange dress before with a faux fur coat (here), with a tartan blazer (here), with a white blazer and leopard heels (here)  and with a green vest (here).  The biker boots are one of the most worn shoes in my closet. OUTFIT #15, A CAMEL COAT, A VINTAGE DRESS, BURGUNDY TIGHTS AND POINTY BLACK HEELED BOOTS

On the photograph you can see me wearing a camel coat. Moreover, there is also a burgundy jacket thrown over my right arm. The plan was to wear the burgundy jacket if I feel too warm in the coat. Do you know what happened? I left both the coat and the jacket in the car, it was so warm today. I just wore this fabulous black vintage wrap dress with metallic silver details (I inherited this dress from my mother). The bag and the boots are from a local store in Mostar called Borsa, not sure about the brands for these two, but this store imports from Italy. I'm actually wearing two pair of tights layered on the other here, one is a burgundy pair and the other is a leopard fishnet pair. If I recall well, both pairs of tights were purchased in Kik store in Stari grad on island Hvar.

THE MINI BROWN LEATHER BAG-  This  mini bag was a gift from a friend. I love it. See how I wore it here , here and here.

THE RED BLAZER-  I've had this red blazer for ages. I remember paying something like ten euros for it in some little shop in Split (located opposite of backdoor entrance to National Theatre) during sales. The purchase certainly payed off. THE BEIGE/CAMEL SHORT COAT- As some of you might remember, my husband bought this camel coat for me back in 2019. Initially I was a bit skeptical, but soon I warmed up to it. I have already gotten so many wears from it. See how I have worn it here, here and here. 

STANKA ZOVKO POLKA DOT LILAC SET (MATCHING SKIRT & BLOUSE) Do you remember when I bought this lilac set by fashion designer Stanka Zovko back in August? I was so excited to wear it. I first wore it when I shared a book review HERE. I love to wear this set as separates as well. You can see how I styled this polka dot  skirt over a lilac dress (also by Stanka Zovko), in another outfit paired with a floral shirt here. Moreover, I wore this skirt with my white tunics here and here.

PEKO LEATHER HEELED SHOES - I've had these shoes for ages (SEE PLUS 50 WAYS TO STYLE THIS PAIR OF MARY JANE HEELS).. Like most of shoes I have bought in Peko stores, they are quality made.

I really like how camel looks with denim! This was a comfortable styling that also felt very warm.

This was such a comfortable outfit to wear. I definitely plan to redo it. If I were to wear it again, I might change a thing or two. I'd like to try styling this with a bold skirt in a vibrant colour, such as red. I'd also like to add a statement scarf.

This was an outfit that made me wonder should I wear jeans more often. I don't wear jeans often, but I like how they look with this coat. Blue and brown are a lovely colour combo. When you get bored of the blacks and greys that are so prevalent in winter months, try opting for blues and browns.

It seems that I like to wear this camel boat both with pants, skirts and dresses. Below you can see a collage featuring three more ways to style this camel coat (outfits 21, 22, 23).  So, let's have a look at those. OUTFIT #21: NAVY WIDE PANTS, OLIVE GREEN VEST, CAMEL COAT AND BROWN BOOTS

This outfit was all about layering. I wore it for a walk around the city with my husband. I felt both comfortable and chic in this- a winning combo when it comes to outfit  One advantage of getting older (at least for me) is the ability to enjoy one's clothes more and more. I don't know about others, but I seem to feel more comfortable with myself the older I get- especially in terms of knowing what works for me fashion-wise. I honestly can't remember the last time I didn't feel comfortable in something I wore. It's not that it never happens, but it happens so seldom I can't recall it.

FOR OUTFIT #21 I'M WEARING: A CAMEL COAT, A TAILORED BLACK BLAZER, A YELLOW SCARF, A FLORAL SKIRT, A PAIR OF BROWN BOOTS AND A BURGUNDY BAG

This was an outfit that I choose to accompany a book review. What I can notice is that this was the second or third time I paired this coat with a  floral skirt that was a fast fashion purchase that was turned sustainable by being worn more than thirty times.

This might be one of my favourite outfits with this camel boat perhaps because I really like the silhouette of it. Plus the simplicity of black and white looks is always appealing. 

We've already made it looks 24 and 25! Both featuring the same pair of pointy boots. Very comfy boots too!  I need to have them fixed so I can wear them again.

OUTFIT #28, A CAMEL COAT PAIRED WITH AN OLIVE GREEN BLAZER, FLORAL SKIRT AND LEOPARD HEELS

This was a dressed up look I wore to a nice restaurant in Mostar for a lunch date with my husband.

#OUTFIT 29, A CAMEL COAT WORN WITH A DENIM SHIRT AND JEANS FOR AN ALL DENIM LOOK

This was an outfit I wore for trekking in a village Goranci near Mostar.

This outfit was somewhat forgettable, because I don't remember it very well. Perhaps it was lacking some accessories to make it more memorable. This was not the only time I wore this pair of jeans with this coat, I also wore a similar combo when I layered a blazer, a shirt and a tie under this coat- and I liked that outfit more because it was more interesting. I can't recall what I wore under this coat for this photograph- I'm guessing it was a turtleneck or a sweater since it was winter time.

#31 with a blue mixed print bohemian dress with brown lace details and brown boots here in 2023.

As I said many times so far, I do like the look of blue and brown together. In the colder months, blues and browns can be a wonderful alternative to black.

I also really liked this styling with a blue and black tunics. I also layered a skater skirt under it to be warmer as the tunics is a bit on the short side.

#33 with an animal print dress, mustard turtleneck and high brown boots in 2024.

This is one of my favourite looks just because I like this animal print skirt so much. Plus, I like how I kept almost the whole look in different shades of brown.

WHAT HAVE I LEARNED BY STUDYING THE WAYS I WORE THIS CAMEL COAT? 

- It works well with blues, both the washed out blue tones and the cobalt blue, but I think cobalt blue is really the winner. 

- I like how it looks with denim! It allows me to create outfits that are casual chic.

- I need to wear it with more bold colours!

- It looks good with light colours such as light beige, but I need to try to style it with white.

- When worn with pencil skirt (regardless whether it is midi, maxi or mini), it creates a beautiful silhouette. 

Honestly, I think it looks great with anything. In the future, I'd like to try it with some bold dresses and different winter accessories. I'm looking forward to getting to 40 wears.
