Epic of Gilgamish (Book review & Illustration)
Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! In this post, I'll share my review for The Epic of Gilgamesh ( alternatively spelled Gilgamish). Considered the first ever narrative work of literature, this Mesopotamian epic dates back to circa 2100 to 1200 BC. However, the original but uncompleted version of this epic, the so called 'old Babylonian version', dates back to eighteen century BC. When it was first discovered in the 19th century, The Epic of Gilgamesh was labelled as belonging to the 'Greek epic genre'. Although, the older version of this work of literature predate the Greek epics considerably, it was understandably hard to define The Epic of Gilgamesh within existing literary traditions. Many histories of literature were written before this epic was ever discovered and literary traditions established. I always wondered what would have happened if it was discovered earlier? Would ancient Greek epics been viewed as post Babylonia...
