30 PLUS WAYS TO WEAR AN OLIVE BLAZER (SUSTAINABLE FASHION FILES)
Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! In this post, we'll talk some more about sustainable fashion. As I believe the best way to learn is through example, so I'll show you multiple ways how to style an olive green blazer. On this little digital place to call my own, I love to show you how you can be more sustainable by shopping your closet. The more you love items in your closet and the better care you take of your clothes, you easier you'll find it to shop your closet. So, that's something to keep in mind! Besides linking up outfits with this blazer, I'll link up multiple ways to wear other items in my closet. As always, there will be fun collages to help you see the vision- how chic and fun restyling items can be!
Olive green can be somewhat of an underrated colour, even if it is trending at the moment. For Autumn/Winter 2024/2025, tonal dressing in olive greens and khakis is right on trend. I'm convinced that when styled right, olive green can look good with anything. The energy of olive green is that of peace and nature. So, since green is the colour of ecology, I guess this blazer is the perfect piece to promote ecological fashion with. I always loved olive green colour, maybe because it reminds me of Croatia. I used to love picking olives as a kid, and I simply cannot imagine Croatian seaside without olive trees. In my paintings and art, olive green is also present. So, there's nothing surprising about the fact that I have an olive green blazer in my closet.
Now, let's talk about this olive blazer. I've actually had this olive blazers for years. I bought it as a part of a set (blazer and skirt set). I remember that it was a real bargain, something like ten euros. It's also unique in one way- it is possibly the only button free blazer that I have. For some reason, I feel like that makes it dressier. What do you think? I like to pair it with dresses, but I often wear it with skirt and pants. I distinctly remember pairing it with a few formal dresses for special occasions. So, maybe I prefer it with dresses and skirts. However, I think it can look very posh paired with pants. I'm a big fan of olive green. No wonder I love wearing this blazer so much.
Happy 12th blog anniversary to me! Can you believe I've been blogging for dozen of years?
This blog came to life on 22nd of November 2012! My first post was what would be now called 'an outfit post'. I opened my blog planning to write about fashion, but with time it grow to include my other interests such as art, literature and sustainable travel. So, I have been blogging for eleven years and a few days! That's quite a long career for a personal (i.e. non profitable) blog. I once googled the average life span of a blog and the result indicated an average of only one hundred days. Well, I'm glad I'm still blogging.
The term olive, denoting the fruit, entered Middle English in the 14th century from the ancient Greek elaia. It wasn't until the 1600s that the term olive green, inspired by the hue of unripe olives, was recognized in English.
Olive green became a staple in military attire in the 19th century. Its muted tones were ideal for camouflage, helping soldiers blend in with their surroundings. Although the U.S. military transitioned to a “woodland” camouflage pattern in 1981, countries like Israel, Cuba, India, Venezuela, and Austria continue to use olive drab for uniforms.
Olive green has been embraced in fashion, design, and art, reflecting evolving attitudes toward environmentalism and peace. Artists like Claude Monet and Thomas Wilmer Dewing explored its versatility in works like "Bridge Over a Pond of Water Lilies" (1899) and "Symphony in Green and Gold" (1912), showcasing the color's capacity to convey depth and natural beauty in landscapes and abstract compositions.*
Olive green is a complex and muted color with an earthy, subdued appearance. Positioned in the green section of the color wheel, it leans towards yellow, giving it a distinctly warm, natural tone. This particular shade captures the essence of olive green, reminiscent of dark moss green. Olive green is defined by the following color codes and values to ensure consistency across various digital platforms and devices. 1) HEX code: #636B2F / 2) RGB value: 38.8% red, 42% green and 18.4% blue
SOME TIPS FOR USING OLIVE GREEN that I found on the above mentioned site include using it to convey stability and growth in design, using it to vibe with the nature and outdoors, as a background for other themes, and parallel with earth tones. Apparently, olive green, with its earthy and natural undertones, is excellent for health, wellness, and sustainability designs. It can be used it to create a stable, calm and reassuring atmosphere. Moreover, it is useful in creating connection with the nature and the outdoors. It can also be used to create a background. Finally,
BOTH IN FASHION AND DESIGN, OLIVE GREEN CAN CONVEY A FEELING OF CALM AND RELAXATION, ESPECIALLY WHEN PAIRED WITH EARTLY TONES!
Olive green is a great symbol for nature, so it can be especially appealing to those individuals who enjoy the outdoors. Maybe that is why it is so appealing to me, now that I think of it! It can be a great
FURTHERMORE, OLIVE GREEN CAN BE A GREAT BACKGROUND COLOUR THAT YOU CAN USE TO BUILD YOUR OUTFIT AROUND
If you have a look at design tips below, you'll see that many of them can be applied to fashion as well. Use olive green for backgrounds or themes. Use olive green for backgrounds or themes to evoke a sense of serenity and focus. Its muted tones can reduce eye strain. Complement with earth tones. Pair olive green with earth tones like browns, tans, and deep reds to create a cohesive, grounded design. This palette can enhance the user experience by bringing warmth and a sense of welcome to your digital space...or as I would add- to you outfit.
OLIVE GREEN SYBOLIZES PEACHE AND CALMNESS, AND IT PROVIDES A PSYCHOLOGICAL FEELING OF BALANCE AND RENEWAL
Olive green symbolizes peace and tranquility, rooted in the ancient tradition of offering an olive branch as a sign of harmony. Its earthy tones reflect stability, endurance, and resilience, echoing the olive tree's ability to thrive under harsh conditions. In military contexts, olive green stands for honor, wisdom, and dedication, showcasing the values of service and commitment.
The color psychology of olive green ties to its natural undertones, fostering feelings of balance and renewal. It creates a grounded, secure environment, often enhancing well-being and stability. Olive green's link to the earth and sustainability identifies it as a color of eco-consciousness.*
LET US HAVE A LOOK AT MULTIPLE WAYS TO STYLE THIS BLAZER!
#1 WITH STILETTO HEELS AND A CHERRY PRINT DRESS |
SUSHI DATE STYLING- CHERRY PRINT DRESS PAIRED WITH AN OLIVE BLAZER
I paired my cherry print dress (five ways to style it here) with stiletto heels (last worn here) and an olive blazer (worn here). It was a warm day, but I still layered two types of tights, wearing the burgundy ones under the leopard fishnets. I like wearing these two pairs together (see here for another example).
2# WITH FLORAL SKIRT, A BLACK TOP AND MARY JANE HEELS |
This is an outfit I wore when I went to have some of my painting framed in 2019. Browsing through my archives, I noticed that I paired this fashion house Edi floral skirt with this olive blazer more than once. They just seem like a match made in heaven.
APRIL RECAP (16 SPRING BLAZER OUTFITS ) 2019
#3 WITH ONE SHOULDER BLUE DRESS AND STILETTO HEELS |
Styling this olive blazer with an asymmetrical dress was fun. I always enjoy a nice pairing of blue and green. I think these two shades (cobalt blue and olive green) work quite well together. What do you guys think? I wore this back in 2018. When it comes to formal wear, asymmetric cuts can be just what we need to stand out. One shoulder dresses are always the way to go when we want to stand out a but. They are a classy way of showing some skin. For this autumn outfit proposal, I paired this cobalt dress with a military green blazer. I think this outfit works quite well. Black is always an elegant choice, but you want to wear something more colourful why not opt for a red or green blazer? It can be a great way to add some colour into your special occasion outfit. Are you all set for special occasion outfits?
#4 WITH A WHITE CHERRY PRINT DRESS AND MARY JANE HEELS |
#5 WITH A BLACK AND WHITE DRESS AND BLACK HEELED BOOTS |
In this outfit post, I paired this black and white dress with dark tights, high heeled Šimecki boots and a faux leather tote bag. I also added in an umbrella because it was raining. I must say I liked this outfit. I think this white and yellow dress looks nice paired with this olive blazer.

#8 WITH A PEPLUM DRESS AND LEOPARD HEELS |
#9 WITH A MAXI BEIGE SUMMER DRESS AND WEDGES |
This is a summery styling I wore ages ago. This maxi crochet dress looks good worn with anything.
#10 WITH A GYPSY SKIRT, A TURTLENECK AND BIKER BOOTS |
I wore this styling for a walk around the town. I'm not sure have I posted this outfit before. I really like it because there's a bit of mixed print situation going on. At the same time, I feel like this olive blazer joins the earthly colours and prints.
#11 WITH A MATCHING SKIRT, A MULTICOLOURED BAG, RED T-SHIRT AND MARY JANE HEELS Back in 2017, I wore this olive blazer as a part of the suit it actually belongs to. My pairing was simple: AN OLIVE SUIT, RED TOP AND MULTICOLOURED BAG I don't know why I don't wear this blazer as a part of a suit more often. I mean I like to wear it on its won, but it looks great worn as a part of a suit as well! What do you guys think? Should I wear it as a part of a suit? |
#12 WITH A BLACK DRESS, CARAMEL BOOTS AND A CROSSOVER BAG |
I don't remember what I wore this combo for? Do you? I see I'm holding some books here, so it might have been a book review post? I do love this midi black dress with ruffles. Pairing it with a crossover bag and camel boots seemed like a good choice...and this is an outfit I'd actually love to repeat.
#13 WITH BLUE JEANS, A STATEMENT NECKLACE, A DARK BLUE TURTLENECK AND CAMEL BOOTS |
#14 WITH LILAC SKIRT, A BLACK TOP, BROWN BOOTS ND A SCARF |
The idea is that you don't have to spend time and money to change things up in your life. You can jazz up your daily activities by doing something simple, like reversing the order in which you do things. If you can't afford to travel, you can try to find some new and interesting places in your home town. You can stop for a cup of coffee in a new cafe you have never been to and so on. If you can't afford new clothing items, you can learn how to shop your closet better. If you feel your relationship is stuck in a rot, you can try doing new activities together. If you are currently struggling with learning something, you can try finding a new learning method that will work better for you. Changing your routine doesn't have to be intimidating, overwhelming and expensive. It can be easy, simple and free of charge.
#15 WITH FLORAL WOOL SKIRT AND LEOPARD HEELS |
URBAN VS. COUNTRY STYLE - I posted this styling in my 2015 post.
THE CAMEL COAT (a gift from hubby)- WORN HERETHE OLIVE BLAZER (no name, old) - WORN HEREDIY NECKLACE (recycled leather)- WORN HEREFLORAL SKIRT (FASHION HOUSE EDI)- WORN HERE
This outfit is something I wore for a lunch date with my husband. As I said in many a blog posts this Spring, you have to dress for the weather. If the Spring proves as fresh as Autumn or as cold as Winter, you simply have to dress for the weather. I did like the colour palette in this look. Perhaps it's a bit dark, but at least there is some flora print to invoke it. I like the combination of camel and olive green. Moreover, I have just realized that this is not the first time I have paired this skirt with this blazer. I think this is the only 'no button' blazer I own and I wear it a lot. Should I invest into another one?
#16 WITH GYPSY SKIRT, FAUX FUR AND A PAIR OF STILETTOS |
Outfit number 16 was something I wore at home, but isn't it a FUN combo?
#17 WITH A CHERRY PRINT DRESS, BEIGE BAG AND LOAFERS |
Outfit number 17 is one of those outfits that ended up forgotten in my archives. I haven't shared it before, and I'm not sure what year I wore it. It was probably not too long ago, because I bough these black moccasins about a year or two ago.
#18 WITH A VINTAGE BLUE LONG GOWN #19 WITH A VINTAGE WOOL SKIRT, A STRIPED BLOUSE AND A RED NECKLACE |
The outfit number 18 shows me wearing this gorgeous olive blazer with a vintage blue dress! I simply adored this styling and I even illustrated it.
Outfit number 20 is an outfit I wore many years ago! In this look, I presented in a collage with some other skirt and blazer looks I paired here.
#20 OLIVE BLAZER WORN WITH A DENIM SKIRT, A RED TOP AND HEELS |
If you go back to a post devoted to my Mary Jane heels, you'll find this denim combo.
IN MY POST PLUS FIFTY WAYS TO WEAR A PAIR OF HEELS, I POSTED THIS OLIVE BLAZER STYLING WITH A DENIM SKIRT!
OUTFIT #21 OLIVE BLAZER STYLED WITH A MATCHING SKIRT AND PINK HEELS (WORN FOR A BOOK REVIEW) |
HOW TO STYLE OLIVE GREEN? WHAT COLOURS TO PAIR IT WITH?
Analyzing these tips, I realized that I have already applied many of them. For example, I did pair olive green with moss green and khaki pretty often. It was a natural instinct, but now I can see how it works with colour theory.
Here're some tips from the above mentioned site (*https://www.figma.com/colors/olive-green/)
For variations within the same earthy and muted spectrum as olive green, consider:
- Moss Green (#8A9A5B) shares olive green's connection to nature, presenting a slightly lighter and more vibrant hue reminiscent of moss-covered stones.
- Khaki (#F0E68C) offers a lighter, more neutral version, retaining the earthy quality with a softer, more subdued tone.
- Dark Olive Green (#556B2F) is closer to olive green, providing a deeper and more intense version that emphasizes the color's natural depth.
- Sage (#B2C495) introduces a hint of gray, resulting in a muted green that complements olive green's understated elegance.
To complement olive green's grounded tones, consider pairing it with:
- Cream (#FDFBD4) provides a soft contrast, enhancing olive green's natural warmth with its light, airy presence.
- Rust (#B7410E) introduces a rich, warm earth tone, offering a striking yet harmonious contrast to the subdued coolness of olive green.
- Navy Blue (#000080) offers a deep, sophisticated contrast, amplifying olive green's earthiness with a touch of classic elegance.
- Burnt Sienna (#ED7B58) adds a warm, vibrant touch, creating a cozy and inviting palette that complements olive green's rustic charm.
- Soft Beige (#F5F5DC) creates a neutral backdrop that allows the richness of olive green to stand out, grounding the palette in natural simplicity.
Other colors worth considering include charcoal gray for a modern, chic look, soft lavender for a gentle, contrasting pop of color, and terracotta for a warm, earthy vibe that enhances the natural qualities of olive green.
WHAT THIS SITE SAYS OLIVE GREEN MIGHT NOT LOOK GOOD WITH:
While olive green is versatile, it may clash with:
- Bright Pink (#FFC0CB) can be too stark and vibrant, potentially overwhelming olive green's natural subtlety, leading to a discordant visual effect.
- Electric Blue (#00F0FF), with its intense vibrancy, may detract from olive green's earthy warmth, creating a jarring contrast.
- Neon Yellow (#CCFF00) presents a high-intensity hue that can overshadow olive green's muted, natural essence.
- Deep Purple (#800080), though rich and regal, might compete too strongly with olive green, overshadowing its natural serenity.
- Lime Green (#89F336), being much brighter and more saturated, can create a visually unsettling combination with olive green's muted tones.*
OUTFIT #22 OLIVE BLAZER PAIRED WITH VINTAGE PENCIL PANTS, A BLACK TOP AND GOLDEN HEELS / OUTFIT #23 WORN WITH A WHITE TOP, A VINTAGE SKIRT AND GOLDEN PLATFORM HEELS, OUTFIT #24 WORN WITH AN OLIVE TURTLENECK, BLACK FLARED SANDALS, A STATEMENT NECKLACE AND SILVER HEELS The three outfits you can see in the collage post were all posted in a post that focused on a reading review. I didn't really write anything about them when I posted them, but that doesn't mean that I didn't think they were cute. I think the outfit with pencil pants and stilettoes looks lovely. The pants are vintage. I don't wear them a lot, but I like how they look with stilettoes. The outfit with the vintage mind skirt is quite nice as well. It would looked even better if I had managed to find the time to iron the skirt but maybe some other time. The same applies for the first two outfits in the collage below. I might not have written a lot about them when I posted them because they were posted in a book review, but that doesn't mean I like them any less. |
OUTFIT #25 OUTFIT #26 OUTFIT #27 |
27) AN OLIVE BLAZER PAIRED WITH A BLACK RUFFLED MIDI DRESS AND A GOLDEN MALTESE CROSS PRINT SCARF
For this wedding dress outfit, I shopped my closet for some of my most trusted pieces. I pulled out an elegant black midi dress with ruffles that I got in a collab ages ago and that I still wear and paired with my olive blazer. Now, this olive and black styling was quite simple. I remember I was feeling exhausted and I just wanted to be comfortable. However, the styling ended up looking quite chic, so I guess it was a win. Sometimes simplicity pays off. When it comes to fashion, I like to experiment and have fun, but I also love the simplicity of an elegant black styling. Here the accent colour was the golden scarf that matched perfectly with the golden zipper detail on the pockets of my olive blazer. Pairing the black kitten heel shoes with a black dress and an olive blazer (that I've had for ages) proved a win. As I explained, I finished the look with a golden scarf I bought on Malta and that was the perfect icing on the cake. I have to say I was really happy with how pulled together this effortless outfit looked.

What a great post celebrating sustainable fashion! I love how you’ve embraced the versatility of the olive green blazer—it really is a timeless piece that can be styled in so many ways. The connection to nature and your memories of Croatia add such a personal touch to the piece as well. It's wonderful to see how shopping your closet and re-styling items can be both fun and eco-friendly. Thanks for the inspiration!

ReplyDeleteHappy December Leone!
DeleteGreat styles Ivana. That blazer is so versatile :-D You always look amazing :-D
ReplyDeleteThanks Ananka:)
DeleteThis warm, natural color wich - like you wrote it! - stands for stability, endurance, and resilience, like the olive plant. And peace is symbolised with the olive branch, carried by the dove of peace... but also it's the colour for military and army clothing - wich is also interesting, isn'nt it?
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your olive Blazer, it is chic and timeless, and you show so many different styles and colors to wear with. Great looks!
Have a happy advent sunday, <3
It's an interesting contrast.
DeleteOlive green symbolizes both peace and war in a way.
Both nature and military uniforms.
Hello Ivana! First of all, congratulations on your beautiful blog anniversary - the birthday of your blog! May your inspiration and creativity never leave you! I also started writing a blog in 2012, but in January. Thank you for recommending interesting styles! I don't like khaki, but the blazer is elegant. I really like it with the black wide trousers.

PS This light, lace long dress is gorgeous!
So cool we started the blog the same year. :)

DeleteHello,
ReplyDeletewe started our blogs practically at the same time, my blog is from October. Congratulations on the work you've been doing here. It's very rewarding.
As for your looks with your olive blazer, they're very diverse, and there are outfits for all occasions! I especially like the photo of you posing victoriously next to your paintings! Have a great end of the week!
Yes, I guess I was feeling a bit victorious. :)
DeleteThis blazer is very smart and stylish. It is also very versatile as you've shown with all your styling choices. I don't own an olive green blazer but I do have an olive green midi skirt that I've worn all year round for many years.
ReplyDeleteI can see how the midi skirt can be versatile. This blazer came with a matching pencil skirt and I still wear it.
