Villion (Vilikon), a novel by Jasna Horvat (book review)
Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! In this post, I shall review Villion (in original Vilikon ) a novel by contemporary Croatian author Jasna Horvat. Nomen est omen, so let's discuss the title first. Villion is the anglicized version of Croatian title Vilikon , hinting at words 'lexicon' and 'vila' (a Croatian word for a fairy or an elf). The original title in Croatian combines the words 'lexicon' and 'fairy', and this is indeed appropriate for the framed narrator of the novel Marco Polo will tell us stories about the (Croatian) fairy world and the novel itself feels like a fairy lexicon or dictionary at times. Beside the word lexicon the title also hints at Marco Polo's nickname (million), so therefore Villion. Why Marco Polo? Because he is the framed narrator of this postmodernist novel.
