20 WAYS TO WEAR A GREEN VEST (SUSTAINABLE FASHION FILES)

We're continuing with fashion sustainable posts on my blog.  I do believe that shopping our closets is one of the best ways to be  more sustainable and green in our fashion choices. Today we'll share 20 outfits featuring a long green vest. Some of these outfits you have had the chance of seeing on this blog already while some of them are new. When I picked up this vest in a random supermarket (really!) for something like ten euros, I had no idea how much wear I'll get out of it. I rarely make impulsive buys, but when I do, I usually make them worth while. I do honestly believe that it is not about how many clothes you have in your closet as it is about knowing what works for you. Today I'm sharing what worked for me by posting about twenty ways to wear a long green vest. Let's get this party started!

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #1: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH A PINK TOP, JEGGINGS, BELT AND BIKER BOOTS.
These kind of comfy outfits are perfect for transitional weather and autumn walks, aren't they?  A long vest will keep you warm, but not too warm. If you need more warmth, you'll need to add more layers. I wore this outfit for a walk with my significant other in Vrboska on island Hvar.

OUFIT PROPOSAL OUTFIT #2: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH A BLACK POLO DRESS, LEOPARD TIGHTS AND HEELS AND A TOTE BAG.
My husband loved this particular outfit. I actually wore this in summer in Mostar, but it was a windy night so I wasn't too hot. I like how this outfit feel dressed up but not too much. I think this long vest does a great job of dressing it down as it is a more casual item. The tones in this outfit are dark, but I added some golden touches with the belt and the chain on the bag to jazz things up a little. I definitely plan to wear a similar outfit formula soon. I love this pair of leopard print heels!

OUFIT PROPOSAL OUTFIT #3: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH A RED FLARE TOP, A BASEBALL CAP AND BLUE FLARE PANTS
This outfit proposal was more on the casual side of things but still chic. I wore driving loafers because I drove to bay Torac that day (that's the beautiful bay you can see behind me btw). I don't wear basketball caps as much as I used to (one of my first posts published about eight years ago was about baseball hats) but I still like them. I think there is something so effortlessly cool about them.

OUFIT PROPOSAL OUTFIT #4:OLIVE VEST WORN WITH A PAIR OF BLACK LEGGINGS, A TOP AND SNEAKERS
This was such an easy and comfy look that I plan to rewear it soon. I will be adding more layers, though. I wore this outfit for a walk in Mostar city. It is one of those super easy summer looks.
OUFIT PROPOSAL OUTFIT #5: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH FLARES AND A WHITE CROATIAN FOLKLORE SHIRT
This was another easy outfit. I  often pair this olive vest with this white authentic hand made folklore shirt. These two items somehow go very well together. They remind me of many Slavic (not just Croatian, but Slavic in general) folklore costumes. The combination of a white shirt and a vest is very common among Slavic folklore, especially in men's costumes.  I think it has something to do with practicality. These kind of white linen shirts were probably very comfortable to work in and that is probably why they were so prevalent among rural and folklore costumes. A vest is another garment that goes way back into time. Both Eastern and Western cultures have vests as a part of their traditional wear and there is a reason for that. A well made vest will keep its wearer warm without constraining his movements. That's what I love about reading about folklore and fashion history, you always learn so much about how people used to live. The history of clothing isn't trivial, it actually tells us a lot about ourselves.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #6: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH A YELLOW DRESS AND SNEAKERS
This was a summer styling, so if I were to wear it now I would need more layers. I can see this outfit formula working just fine with an addition of additional garments such as tights and boots as well as a blazer. I have to say that I like the combination of   bright yellow and olive green. Something about the contrast of these two colours really appeals to me- or maybe it is just that it reminds me of some of my favourite things such as the sun and olive trees.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #7: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH A YELLOW TARTAN SKIRT AND AN OLIVE TOP
I love this tartan skirt and pairing it with a top and a vest in olive green made sense. I think those two colours work really well together. What do you think? Are green and tartan somehow meant to be? Anyhow, I wore this outfit for a stroll in Mostar. I like to wear tartan all year around, but it is simply perfect for autumn.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #8: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH HEELED SANDALS AND YELLOW DRESS
Another summery styling where I matched this olive vest with a yellow clothing item. I must really like this colour combo.  I wore this green vest with this yellow dress at least twice. I like how this vest isn't too warm to wear in the summer, but if feels quite warm when I layer it for autumn.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #9: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH WIDE BLUE TROUSERS AND SHIRT
I really liked this combo as well. Here I paired this vest with wide trousers in dark navy and a baby blue shirt. I like the general silhouette of this look and well as the colour scheme, the whole look is somehow very relaxed. It was also very comfortable to wear and that's just as important.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #1O: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH  A TARTAN JACKET AND JEANS
This was a proper winter styling. I wore this vest for comfort and warm. I like pairing it with shorter or cropped jackets for additional warmth. I can definitely see myself wearing this combo again for those cold autumn and winter days.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #11: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH  VINTAGE LEVIS AND A TURTLENECK
This is another good reason of why I love autumn- the light layering. Sometimes all we need is a long vest. I've been wearing this long olive vest a lot lately. Bellow you can see how I paired it with vintage levi's jeans (worn here here and here), an olive turtleneck (worn here) and a pair of black biker boots (worn here) and a bag (worn here).

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #12: AN OLIVE VEST PAIRED WITH  A GREY DRESS
This grey dress is about the most comfortable dress I own and I wear it often. Now, that I think of it, I really like the combo of this green vest with this dress. I tied a belt that belongs to a tartan blazer I wear all the time, opted for sneakers and voila.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #13: AN OLIVE BLAZER PAIRED WITH A STRIPED SKIRT AND A WHITE SHIRT
I remember I wore this outfit for a stroll with a colleague after work and she was also kind enough to snap some photographs for me. I ended up really liking this outfit. What else to say about this autumn styling? It proves my point that you can dress sustainable and comfy but still look feminine and chic.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #14: AN OLIVE BLAZER PAIRED WITH A MUSTARD DRESS
This was such a fun outfit to wear. I love mustard yellow and olive green together. There's something very complimentary about these two shades as they are both on the darker spectra.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #15: AN OLIVE BLAZER PAIRED WITH A FLORAL DRESS AND JEANS
This was a true transitional outfit. I remember I wore it to visit bay Zavala in early spring and I started to take layers off as it got warmer. I ended up taking my shoes off and getting my toes soaked in the sea.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #16: AN OLIVE BLAZER PAIRED WITH LEGGINGS AND LILAC SOCKS
This was another fun folklore inspired outfit. I wore it for a Sunday stroll in the nature. Fun times.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #17: AN OLIVE BLAZER PAIRED WITH A YELLOW BLAZER
An outfit like this one featuring a jumpsuit dressed up with heels can be worn for a variety of occasions. If your office dress code isn't very strict, you can even consider wearing it for work.  Jumpsuits can be very chic and they are not that difficult to dress up. A nice blazer or a vest will make any jumpsuit look more dressed up and chic. Similarly, a jumpsuit can be a great option for a date or a lunch with friends. If the combination of sunshine yellow and olive green is too much for you, try opting for a darker jumpsuit.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #18: OLIVE VEST WORN WITH BLACK CORD FLATES AND A BLACK TOP
This  outfit proposal would suggest a dark palette. I don't wear dark tones that much,  but there are some darker tones that appeal to me, for example I can't resist a dark green palette. As it happens, I like to pair it with black. I do like the black aesthetic, but generally speaking I'm more drawn to patterns and colours. Black is a colour too, I can't argue with that and it is a colour I love. For many, black is the colour of mystery, strength and elegance. Like any colour, it has many connotations.  This photograph was taken in beautiful Mostar, the second largest city in Bosnia and Herzegovina. I wore it for a walk there with my husband. I actually wore a matching olive blazer over this green vest for more warmth.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #19: AN OLIVE VEST WORN WITH A FLORAL DRSS AND A TARTAN BLAZER
I actually wore this outfit with two pair of shoes within the same day: with heels for a drink in the city and with driving loafers for a mountain visit that involved hiking.

OUTFIT PROPOSAL #20 : AN OLIVE VEST WORK WITH AN ORANGE DRESS AND BOOTS
Here I paired this orange dress with a long green vest and a curd vintage blazer (see how I styled it here). I finished the outfit with black square heel boots (previously worn here and here) and a bag (previously worn here and here). Overall, I really like the colours in this outfit. Pumkin orange, olive green and wine purple. I do like these shades. What do you think? Is this a good autumn styling? I think this outfit would work quite well for the office as well.

  1. Such wonderful inspiration! I dunno if I have one as of late, but this makes me want to do a DIY project with something I have. I did take an old gray blazer I thrifted and made it into a vest. I just never can find the right time to wear it. Love how you have taken this piece and wore it so many different ways! Happy Weekend!

  8. Dear Ivana, your husband has good taste. The outfit with the leopard tights is very sexy. I really like all the looks, but my favorite is number 6 with the yellow tartan skirt. So cute and you look just gorgeous in it. But I also love number 8 with the yellow dress, number 14 with the mustard dress, number 17 with the adorable jumpsuit and the elegant number 20 with the orange dress and boots.

    Have a lovely sunday!

I'm amazed that you found that wonderful olive vest in a supermarket and you've certainly proved here that impulse buys aren't always a bad thing! love the first look with the pink jumper and leggings/jeggings the most. I think olive and pink are gorgeous together. I also love the vest worn over that amazing jumpsuit and paired with the leopard shoes. Such a versatile vest, I really think the possibilities are endless! xxx
