30+ WAYS TO STYLE A PAIR OF JEANS: SUSTAINABLE FASHION

Hello there, lovely people! I hope you're staying in and staying safe.  In my last post, I blogged about different fashion related things you can do while in corona virus self-isolation or lock-down. One of the things I pointed out is taking this opportunity to become more sustainable in your fashion  choices. I suggested shopping your closet, trying out new looks with the clothes you already own and creating a visual diary (or a folder) with clothing items and outfits you like. If something works for you, why not capitalize on it, especially when it is also beneficial for the environment?

HOW MANY TIMES YOU SHOULD WEAR AN ITEM TO MAKE IT SUSTAINABLE?
Today I'll show you what I like to do to make my fashion choices more sustainable- and that is getting the maximum wear out of an item. So, for a while now I've been creating these 'X ways to wear an X items' posts. These kind of posts take a lot of time to make, because I have to browse my old blog posts and hunt for certain items but I like them because they motivate me to be more sustainable. Moreover, it is a good way to re-examine my style. What do I often reach for and why? That's a good question to asks ourselves.
30 WAYS TO WEAR AN ITEM
My aim is to wear everything I own at least 30 times because I read somewhere that is the number we should aim for, you know for sustainability reasons. I always try to do better than 30 wears, though. To me even 30 wears seems terribly wasteful. Naturally if you shop vintage or second hand, than you're all set as it is (when it comes to sustainability), but still it is to think of wearing an item in as many ways as possible. This pair of jeans is not vintage, though. Most of my clothes isn't vintage but I tend to wear mostly vintage jeans. Generally speaking, my wardrobe is a mix of vintage, second hand, locally made and even though I try to avoid it, I have some fast fashion items in there as well. Anyhow, this pair of jeans was bought in an outlet store (that is also a second hand store so I can't know for sure whether this item is second hand or not).  It's somewhat of an exception in my wardrobe, because most of my jeans are either vintage or by this Croatian brand Amadeus (because most brands don't fit me well).

30 PLUS WAYS TO STYLE A PAIR OF STRAIGHT CUT BLUE JEANS
This pair of jeans has proven to be surprisingly versatile. I actually wear this pair in all seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. They look cool worn with all sorts of footwear: moccasin shoes, flat and heeled boots, sneakers and heels. I've paired them with shirts, sweaters, tops of all kinds and even dresses. I've definitely got my value out of them- and they were only 2.5 euros.
HOW I WORE THIS PAIR OF JEANS BEFORE?
Today I've prepared for you a little recap showing many different ways I have worn this pair of jeans before. Now, I've put some of these looks in collages, otherwise this post would be endless. I also didn't include some outfits that I felt were a bit repetitive. Some of these outfits still are a bit similar, for some of them  do follow a similar outfit formula. I think you can notice that a certain pair of biker boots is my 'go to' choice with these jeans. I'm still happy about these looks, though.

THE STORY OF THIS PAIR OF JEANS
I've actually had this pair of jeans for a few years. My husband bought this pair for himself in an outlet /second hand store but then asked me to wear it. Maybe he never planned to wear it. Maybe he picked it up because it was a bargain.  It could have also been his sneaky way of getting me to wear what he wants.  I can't tell. Anyhow, what ever it was it worked. This is definitely not a pair of jeans I would buy for myself. I only like high waisted jeans. I'm also quite partial to flare jeans. This pair is neither of those two things. But somehow I leaned to love it. Perhaps because my husband likes it so much. Maybe because they really are so versatile. What ever is the case, this is a nice pair to have.

  1. Wow, that's really impressive, Ivana! I rarely wear jeans myself, but I love the simple cut of these - not too skinny, not too wide, not too low-waisted, just right. I like that you layered them under a dress (I've always liked that look).

I'm all about sustainability when it comes to fashion - I'd say 90% of my wardrobe is second-hand and vintage, and I love all the unique things I find. Many of my pieces I've had for a decade or more!

I hope you're doing well, my dear!

  3. You've certainly got your money's worth from those jeans!
I commend your efforts to put this post together, it must have taken you ages to scroll through the archives.
Even the most dedicated fast fashion shopper is going to have to learn to shop their own wardrobes over the coming months. Do you think it'll make a difference to people's hopping habits, to make them more appreciative of what they own and what suits them rather than constantly buy new because that's what the influencers and magazines tell them to do? I really hope so. xxx

    1. I read somewhere that after this crisis people will buy even more luxury goods (according to some research and estimates) and items that and I quote: 'make them feel better and more confident about themselves'. I was thinking how that doesn't make any sense. If anything people should shop less when all of this is over. They should realize that things by themselves are meaningless and that luxury items can't buy you happiness. But not according to that research that says that after this crisis, people will buy even more of those overpriced designer bags. What? I certainly hope not but I wouldn't put it past some people. Let's hope that people will stop buying like crazy at least for a while.

  4. Hey dear Ivana, how's everything going? Hope you're doing well with your work at homeand that you managed to set all the things you needed for it :)

Ahhhhh jeans..... what a versatile piece if you find the perfect the perfect pants that are made just for you. I think this is something you have to invest and to look for with a magnifying glass, actually now that I think about it I only have 2 jeans in my closet but I wear them constantly and they are in perfect condition. I'd say you have to look for something that mixes quality but also a good fit that can go out with your style and body type.

I love yours, they are so clean and they have such a good shape that can go out for casual but also for more formal occasion! Keep them in good conditions and let's take a moment to analyze what we really love in our closets :)

Have a good weekend and send you good vibes from Spain!

Who know what was rellay the intention of your husband :) I see why you loved to learn these jeans and you really know how to style them! Thanks for sharing all these fantastic looks and yes, making a folder with new looks shopped from the own closet really makes sense during these times.

  8. You've certainly been making the most of this pair of jeans, especially considering it wasn't a style you would have chosen for yourself. Although many of clothes will take a long time to reach 30 wears, I do not consider it wasteful. I love clothes and have a lot of them, but as the vast majority is second hand, there's no guilt at all, as it's sustainable fashion. And now I am so glad of my large wardrobe, as I will certainly not get bored shopping my closet! Stay safe - and fabulous - Ivana! xxx

    1. well, with some items like coats, it is hard to hit 30 wears while with dresses it is much easier. Having a large wardrobe is great, I'm not a minimalist myself.

  13. They are great jeans on you and you wear them well! I think 30 wears is a good number to aim for but I want to buy things I'll be wearing more than 30 times too! Now is a good time to reevaluate my wardrobe I guess, since I'm wearing so little of it I can see what's really needed!

Hope that your weekend is going well :) We are all staying home and staying safe.

  14. I was a late convert to jeans wearing but once I got used to them I find I am wearing them more and more especially at weekends. I do like to wear mine with a long shirt or cardigan to cover my bottom when in public to increase modesty.

    1. Thank you Rebecca. My story is a bit opposite. I wore them a lot as a teenager then stopped wearing them in my twenties to explore wearing dress and finally accepting them again in my thirties.

  32. Jeans in this cut and wash have to be one of the most versatile as you have shown with all your stylish outfit examples. I rotate between 3 pairs of jeans and I'm quite sure they are sustainable as I have worn each pair well over 30 times over the span of a few years.

  35. Hiya girl! I hope you're staying safe and keeping healthy. It's been a while since I sported a pair of jeans as it got really humid and hot. I like how you shop your own closet as I do mine as well, including my sister's and mom's haha. It's good to keep things sustainable and I'm really a fan of second-hand, vintage and upcycled clothing and accessories. I do have some fast-fashion items but I'm glad to say that the days of mindless shopping are over with me. I have enough and I like wearing what I already have. You look chic in the compilation of photos. Jeans go with lots, the list of outfits to wear with them are endless :) Keep safe! :)
