3 Ways To Style a Yellow Checkered Skirt: Outfit Proposals

This yellow checkered skirt used to belong to my mother. Obviously, that makes it a vintage item and one to cherish. I had originally considered making an outfit proposal post with my old outfits, but then I realized that I have actually worn this yellow skirt at least three times this March. So, instead of sharing old outfits, I'm going to share new ones. Here are the three ways in which I wore this yellow skirt. If you have a similar item in your closet, let me know how you like to style it. Do you have any checkered items? Do you have any checkered items in yellow? Would you wear a yellow checkered skirt?

1. Wear it with a black leather jacket and biker boots

If you want to go easy with the colour, why not opt for black clothing items to go along your yellow skirt. You know what they say, black is always a good idea. Black and yellow colour combos have been popular lately, and I have actually illustrated 3 runaways looks in this colour sheme (you can see them here and here ). Long story short, a lot of brands (Versaci, Louis Vuitton etc.) have turned to the yellow checkered trend. Pairing yellow with black is quite popular too, so taking that black leather jacket out of your closet seems like a good choice. If you want to make your outfit more casual and dressed down, opt for biker boots. Not only are they comfortable to wear, they also allow you to get that rocker chic vibe on.

2. Layer a long cardi under the leather jacket to make it more subtle in appearance

If you are not comfortable wearing such a bold print, you can always layer a coat or a long cardi over it. For example, to create a 'peek a boo' effect all you need is a long asymmetrically cut cardigan or a kimono. This way you can feel more comfortable wearing such a bold print. Bonus points for layering and keeping warm.

3. Pair it with a checkered jacket for a complete checkered look

I wore almost exactly the same outfit a few years ago and it is a look I'm only glad to repeat. I'm a big fan of green (as you know) and there is something very powerful about the combination of yellow and green. Mixing prints with prints is always fun, right? This outfit is also suitable for those spring days that still feel like winter, you know the kind of chilly days some of us have had plenty of lately.

  3. That is such a versatile skirt, and these are great outfits with it! I don't have any prints like this in my wardrobe, although I have a lot of stripes, haha!

I think I like the second outfit just a little more - you layer so well.

Hope you are having a good week so far! After being so busy last week, I'm enjoying a relatively quieter week and looking forward to the Easter long weekend.

  7. Heyyyy you are back with outfit posts, yay! I just adore that black and yellow outfit as it's so edgy and fun. As for the green and yellow combo that you mentioned is powerful - perhaps they are also colors Mother Nature is wearing herself? Heheh. I love the scenery there and I thank you for sharing a peek of it. Would love to see more of your Spring outfits and other projects :) Have a happy day beauty <3

  12. Your yellow checkered skirt looks pretty styled with the black tights. My favourite out of the three outfits is the third one featuring the green checkered jacket over the white top. The outfit photos you took by the river that overflowed its banks are great.

  15. Dearest Ivana,
All three outfits are great in their own special way! I love the versatility of your skirt! Thanks for linking to my action ANL! Here is once again the link to ANL: http://rostrose.blogspot.co.at/2018/03/anl-27-tomorrow-haben-wir-eine-zukunft.html
Why? Because Your post today also fits well with ANL, because there is the additional challenge "1 part - 3 looks" - and that's exactly what you created: 3 wonderful and very different looks from a skirt!
    Hugs from Austria,

  22. Ivana, you look terrific! :D

Actually I remember that you left a comment on my trend report where you highlighted this trend on the Versace collection, it is the greatest pattern don't you think? The best thing about the checked pattern design is that it will always be on style despite the season of the year and we can use it on summer or in fall or in any kind of weather :) Love all the options but the first one is definitely my favorite!

INSPIRED BY.....NATALIA LIALINA

Hello everyone and happy hump day!How are you doing? I hope you had a lovely week so far. It's been a while since my last Inspired by post, hasn't it? Well, today I'm back with another Inspired by... feature.  As some of you know, this is a regular feature on my blog that is all about illustrating bloggers I love and that inspire me. I always say it's one of my favourite features and it truly is. Over the years I had the chance to illustrate many many bloggers and it's always something I enjoy doing.
Moreover, I enjoy blog recommendations posts and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I discovered some wonderful bloggers through other bloggers and that's always lovely. This regular feature of mine is  not just about illustrating, it is also a kind of a blog recommendation post, because it gives me a chance to share bloggers I love with you. A GRACE KARIN DRESS: VALENTINE'S DAY OUTFIT PROPOSAL

What to wear for Valentine's day? I'm sure many ladies (and gentlemen) are asking themselves that question. I can't offer much personal experience on dressing up for Valentine's day when it comes to gentlemen, but I can tell you what I've learned as a lady. I can sum it up in two main points: find something that will make you feel special but make sure you're comfortable at the same time. After all, you want to feel special on this lovely day, don't you? Now, you can define special anyway you want to. Moreover, you must also consider one important fact and that is how you are going to celebrate Valentine's day. If you are celebrating it by going on a hike with your significant other, obviously you'll ditch the heels and wear hiking boots. However, that doesn't mean you can't wear a pretty dress! My advice is to take a moment and plan your Valentine's day outfit, that way it will surely feel special. There are other things to consider as…

WINTER DESTINATIONS HERZEGOVINA: MOUNTAIN PRENJ, RUJISTE

A HERZEGOVIAN WINTER FAIRY TALE

What are some of best winter destinations in Herzegovina? That is the questions that I plan to answer with a series of posts. To start with, I'm bringing you a bit of winter magic and taking you with me to mountain Rujiste (proper spelling Rujište, pronunciation  Ruyshte) located on mountain Prenj. This mountain is only a short drive away from Mostar city, which makes it ideal for a little winter getaway.
I've always loved mountains, so when we went for a little drive and ended  up here, I was ecstatic. Winter fairy tale coming my way, that's something I didn't mind at all. I'm a big fan of hiking (as some of you may know). Not that I did a lot of hiking here (I'll explain why later). Anyhow, this is a great place for visiting, whether or not you plan to hike. Just chilling or photograph taking is fine too. For me personally, there is just something about the combination of high altitude and fresh air that makes my heart sing. …
