BURGUNDY AND YELLOW OUTFIT IN SPLIT CITY

Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! In this post, I'll show you an autumn outfit I wore for a seaside stroll with my family in Split city, Croatia. This outfit is another example of me shopping my closet, so you can expect the sustainable fashion files to kick in any minute. This was a very comfortable outfit to wear that also felt very energizing. Probably it was due to colour therapy and all that. Wearing colours often makes me feel better. Mustard yellow and burgundy are the main colours in this look, and I do love these colours together. I dressed in layers, for it was quite windy and fresh despite the warm sun.

As regular readers of my blog know, Split is my home city, and you can find me there very often. In fact, you could say that I live between Split and Mostar. I love Mostar, but I do miss the sea. Is there anything better than seaside in Autumn and Winter? I always love being near the sea, but during the Autumn and Winter when there are hardly any people around, I like it even better. You know when I started looking for previous ways I wore these clothing items, I browsed through so many outfits posted over the years.

Looking for different ways I wore these items (for I do love the thirty ways to wear challenge), I came across some old posts, indeed some outfits posts that I revisited were a decade old. It made me realize how I have been living and working between these two countries for more than a decade. Some years I spent working and living in Croatia, some in Bosnia and Herzegovina. As it turns out, most of my outfits ( that I will link up) were shot either in Croatia or in Herzegovina. These outfit posts are also often a testament of places I lived in or visited.

Have I really been blogging for so long? Have I really lived through so much? Have I really documented fourteen years of my life on this digital place to call my own? I guess in many ways I did document many of the things I have lived through, one way or another.

When we tell the stories of our clothing items, we also tell the stories of our lives. These questions can be quite interesting- what we wore, when, why and how? Fashion is perhaps as psychological as language. When I became a student of language many years ago, it meant reading and studying in detail everything that the founder of modern linguistics, i.e. the Swiss linguistic Ferdinand de Saussure, had to say. One of his quotes remained forever in my heart and mind. ' Everything about language is psychological,' De Saussure wrote and I agreed wholeheartedly.  Looking through my old posts, I'm realizing how fashion can be a language or sorts. Fashion is a visual way of communication. Indeed, everything about fashion is, in many ways, psychological. There's always more than meets the eye.

SUSTAINABLE FASHION FILES

 HOW I WORE IT BEFORE?

Let's first talk about the jacket. Even before I start linking up my old outfits, I want to tell you a thing or two about this jacket. It was featured in many style advice posts, for example - How to style red clothing in the winter

I remember buying this jacket so well. It was actually one of the rare types that I bought a jacket without much thinking. I'm not an impulse buyer and I don't tend to pile on clothes, especially not winter clothes as it's not very cold where I live. However, as soon as I saw this jacket a decade ago, I knew that I should buy it. I hesitated for a second because I had a similar one, but my husband insisted that I buy it, so I bought it.

The story of that purchase links to another jacket actually. A green tartan jacket that was a star of my post not too long ago, when I showed you plus thirty way to wear it. I bought it in a random athletic clothes store in Mostar that doesn't exist anymore and I paid almost nothing for it as it was on a sale. It was at a kids section (maybe by mistake), and what drew me in was the colour and the tartan pattern that I always adore. If you know me, you know that I love wearing prints. Soon I realized that it was the best purchase I ever made because the jacket was ridiculously warm and cozy. Not surprising as the Czech company that makes it Alpine pro, actually makes clothes for skiing. Now, when a year or so later, I came across this brand again, I was quite happy- and I didn't regret buying the other jacket either.

Speaking from a point of customer who wore two jackets from this brand often through a decade, I  must say these jackets are the best wear winter jackets that I have ever owned. They are so light but so warm. After all these years, they look brand new. Now, you can find items that last for a long time, but usually you can notice small signs of wears. These two are one of  the few clothing items I had when it's literally impossible to see any sign of wear. Even if I held a magnifying glass to these jackets, I could find a lose tread or a bad stich. You cannot see it in the picture perhaps, but the sticking, the material, the craftmanship is immaculate. The colours are exactly the same as when I bought them. If you ever come across this Czech winter and outdoor brand, give it a try, I can really recommend it. This is in no way shape or form sponsored, I just wanted to share my experience with this brand. I have a really low tolerance to cold, so I'm both happy and grateful when I find clothes that allow me to stay warm.

A FASHION TRIP THROUGH THE YEARS

Let's take a little trip down the memory lane, and see how many times I wore this jacket on my blog, shall we? I'm sure I wore it for more than thirty times, but I don't take pictures of all my wears, so the number won't be as great as it should be. I did manage to find fifteen outfits with this jacket, so that's not bad. I was made for this sustainable fashion stuff, don't you agree?

It's interesting to see how I styled this jacket. I sometimes repeated outfit formulas. For example, I often wore this jacket with skirts, including this yellow tartan skirt. I think the reason why I often paired it with skirts is to make it look more feminine and cute. I'm not really a fan of athleisure chic, sport style and gym clothes for myself, especially not on everyday basis. I think athleisure wear is just not for me, even if I don't mind it on others. It could also be a cultural thing. I tend to dress Mediterranean, that is slightly more formal on average. Super casual dressing isn't considered appropriate for work and social occasions in a number of European countries.  So, when I wear sporty clothing items, I tend to try to make them look a bit more dressed up.

2024

1) In February 2024, I  wore this tartan jacket with a pink sweater, a green dress, a biker and the burgundy bag (that I'm also sporting today).

2020

2021

3) I wore this same tartan puffer jacket in 2021, when I present it as one of seven outfit ideas for transitional weather. You can see the details of that outfit in brackets (TARTAN JACKET, SEMI PLEATED SKIRT, POINTY BOOTS, BLACK BAG, MUSTARD SWEATER). As you can see, I paired it with the same mustard sweater as well. Honestly, that was another fun outfit to wear and so easy to put together.

2019

7) In 2019, I also included it in this winter outfit proposal, when I styled this jacket with a grey midi vintage pencil skirt with a slit, a pair of heeled boots and a white beret. Possibly one of my favourite outfits ever, it just looked so effortlessly chic.

2018

9) I also wore it with jeans, biker boots and a blue turtleneck for another seaside walk in Split.

2015

15) Moreover, in 2015, I wore it with a mint vintage midi skirt paired with neosens heels and faux fur leg warmers (that came with this pair of heels and that I still have). This was one of my favourite looks with this skirt. The combination of this high waist midi of  and this jacket that is almost cropped was so perfect.

2014

I have to say, it was emotional going through all those outfits, because it made me think of both wonderful and hard days, happy and sad ones. It's funny how you can feel grateful for both.

THE MUSTARD YELLOW TURTLENECK- old, don't remember where I bought it. I think it was in Mana store in Stari grad, but it's also possible it was Kik store.

1) See how I wore it with an animal print dress, brown boots and a black leather jacker in 2021.

6) here with an animal print dress and driving loafers for a warm autumn 2020 look.

7) here with a blue pleated skirt and camel boots in 2020.

11) with a black skirt, biker boots and a leather jacket in 2021.

THE HIGH WAIST YELLOW TARTAN SKIRT - vintage, inherited from my mother.
What can I say about this skirt that I haven't said already? Every time I wear it on my blog, you guys love it. I inherited this skirt from my mother and I like it to bits. It always fits perfectly, even occasionally when my weight fluctuates or when I'm bloated. How I wore it before? Buckle up, this trip down the memory lane is going to be a long one.

5) See how I wore this clueless skirt with brown boots, a black top and green tartan jacket in 2014.

9) In 2021, I wore this yellow tartan skirt to join Kezzie's Dr Who cosplay. I paired this vintage skirt with grey tights, black stiletto heels and a black tunics (worn as a top).

11) When I wrote down tips for styling yellow in 2019, I included an outfit featuring this tartan skirt paired with a red floral vintage blouse, a mini brown bag and bw print sandals with a high block heel.

16) In this 2021 post, I shared many different outfits featuring a yellow bag, and I picked this vintage combo of a long mint  blazer and yellow tartan skirt combo as my favourite outfit.

So, as you can see I have worn this tartan skirt a lot. I managed to find 18 outfits, but I might add up more, because I'm sure I have more photographed outfits with it somewhere. It's just such a great skirt, isn't it?

Do I notice any patterns in the way I style it? Yes, I do actually. I often style it with patterns, especially tartan pattern or matching colours (yellow and black). My blog archives also indicate I love to wear this yellow tartan skirt with red. When it comes to specific winter outwear, I often wear it with tartan winter jackets and with my black leather jacket. Obviously, I like that combo.

MORE POSTS ABOUT SPLIT CITY

MY LAST POST FROM SPLIT WAS- SUMMER TO AUTUMN TRANSITION IN SPLIT CITY

I guess this post is a bit Autumn to Winter in Split city. Only, Winter in Split often feels like Summer.

What did I blog about during Summer in Split city?

In this post, I talked about my art:

In this recent 2024 post, you'll also find photographs of beach Žnjan, a summer outfit and my meditations about painting the sea. Below there are more links to explore from posts shot in Split city.

HOW MANY TIMES HAS SPLIT APPEARED IN TRAVEL WITH MY ART SERIES?

I shared A COUPLE of my paintings inspired by Split city in my Travel with my Art series. That was not the first time I painted my home city. It has appeared in Travel With My Art series a couple of times.

Besides in this regular feature, Split city has appeared in my other art posts as well. Have a look and follow the links below to see how Split inspired my art.

Back in Spring 2021, I took advantage of wonderful sunny weather to do some en plein air sketching in Split city, Croatia.  The weather was so warm that it felt like summer. The beach I sketched is called Firule and what you can se in the distance is island Čiovo. I drew this seascape with watercolour pencils, What made me choose this spot to sketch were the colours. I was fascinated by the colour of the sea and the rocks. Moreover, I really like the background.

I completed this watercolour pencil sketch the same day I started it. There was also a version I made with oil pastels. In case anyone is wondering, I don't have these two with me anymore. I shipped some of my art to one (amateur) art gallery. The watercolour landscape I'm sharing with you today was among the paintings sent while the pastel version of this scene was sent to a friend.  Both of them were sketched on a lovely sunny day on Firule beach in Split.

Why do location and fashion illustrating often go hand in hand? I found myself asking that question today. I love exploring all aspects of fashion illustration, because well it's something I'm passionate about, and I've pretty much always been into it.

I SPENT A FAIR AMOUNT OF TIME IN SPLIT CITY THIS SUMMER and I loved it!

My beautiful city, nicknamed the pearl of the sea, is a fascinating mix of the old and the new. Originally build as a summer residence for an ancient Roman emperor Diocletian, it has had an eventful and interesting history.

I really enjoyed my walk again. Žnjan beach is currently under construction, so a part of it is off limits, but we still managed to wonder around quite a bit. I do love Žnjan. You know that the sea is my main inspiration, don't you?

Who knows? Maybe this walk will inspire another painting of mine?

This post took a lot of time to put together, because all that linking up takes time, but I think it's been worth it. I love to promote a sustainable  but also a  'nonsense free' approach to fashion where we focus on shopping our closets, shopping vintage and local.

What do I mean by 'nonsense free'? Well, sustainability in fashion is an important subject, but sometimes  I feel  that media complicates it too much. Moreover, every company calls itself green or sustainable these days, and even if those claims were true (and obviously they are not because surely not every company is sustainable), the problem of overconsumerism wouldn't be solved. Overconsumerism and fast fashion are the core issues when we speak about fashion industry being a polluter. We need a more responsible attitude to fashion.

Fortunately, many bloggers are doing it right, by showing multiple ways to wear a clothing item or by promoting vintage clothes.  I'm definitely not the only blogger that is talking about restyling clothes, nor was I the first one to do it. Most bloggers I follow promote vintage clothes and/ or shopping our closets ( from the top of my head Ann from Polyester PrincessMicaJodie,  SheilaVix Kezzie, Melanie from Bag and a BeretSenora Allnut and so on...)

Thank you so much for stopping by! Have a lovely day!
