HOW TO STYLE A MIDI SKIRT FOR WINTER?

With three months of winter ahead of us, it makes sense to talk winter fashion. Midi skirts and dresses are often my 'go to' items during winter. One of the reasons why I like to wear the midi length in winter is because midis are not only practical but they can be quite warm, especially if you pair them with boots. I do like a good maxi but some of them can be a challenge to walk in and besides midis are perfect for showing off our shoes. Now, that I think of it, I often end up pairing a midi skirt with a coat and boots (see here and here). It is such an easy outfit formula to put together, but it can look amazingly chic. Do you agree? How do you feel about  the midi length?

WHEN IN DOUBT PAIR A STATEMENT COAT WITH A MIDI SKIRT
When I put together this outfit, it was surprisingly neutral so I added to add some colour with this gorgeous magenta coat. I'm pretty sure I've always been a fan of statement and coloured coats (even way back when these coats weren't really a thing). Despite the fact that I had this magenta coat for two years, I haven't yet grown tired of it, so you may expect to see this coat again here on blog. I was never the type to buy something and wear it only once. I honestly enjoy wearing an item repeatedly. It is all about creating stories and memories with our clothes, that's what makes a clothing item valuable to me. Perhaps I'm just sentimental, but I like when a clothing item comes with a story. Anyhow, this time, I paired this coat with a neutral midi skirt. I wore a grey dress underneath it.  So, basically I layered this warm midi skirt over a grey dress (this one) for this look. To finish it off, I choose a pair of heeled brown boots and a black bag. When I get tired of black, I often opt for brown. It is a rather neutral colour that goes well with everything. To be honest, this knit beanie wasn't a part of this outfit. I just put it on because I was worried I might be cold (it was windy). All in all, I was pretty satisfied with this outfit. It proved quite warm and comfortable, but it still looked chic.
THE STORY OF AN OUTFIT
Once again, I'm sharing an outfit I put together from items in my closet. Nothing is new about this look and I honestly don't remember when I last bought a clothing item. I'm all about shopping one's closetI wore this magenta coat many times in the past (links hereherehere here and here). The bag is also an item you have had the chance of seeing a lot despite the fact that it was a summer gift (proof here, here, and here). The brown boots were featured in this MOST COMFORTABLE HEELED BOOTS I OWN post.  The skirt is new to me, but it's not new, I got it from someone who didn't want it anymore, so you could say that it is a second hand item. The faux fur scarf I wore with this look came off a beige puffer jacket I have had for ages (see here, here and here).
I used to be a girl who disliked winter, but boy have I changed. Now, I can't seem to get enough of it and I live for those sunny and cold days. I'm actually excited about the fact that winter is here to stay and that we have months of cold weather ahead. Alright, the winter is more on the mild size where I'm from, but still- we do get some really cold days and windy ones too. It is nice being able to embrace winter.  I'm no longer anxiously waiting for the Spring or anything like that. I mean I will probably be happy once Spring arrives, but I feel no need to rush it. Instead I'm enjoying season that's here, trying to seize the moment. Winter can be so beautiful and inspiring, especially when you spend it by the sea. The sea in winter is a magical thing. I'm spending this winter by the sea and I'll try to make most of it.

The location were these photographs were taken is beautiful Split city. I was there only shortly, but I do have a lot of links to my previous posts and you may click some of them if you want to know more about this city:

    Baci!

  3. Ah yes midi skirts are warm but you are correct they can be hard to walk and if wear tights also have to deal with static cling. But they are on trend and they are warm. Love these looks here!!

    1. Thank you Allie. The static cling can be a drag. That is why I like denim ones, they don't seem to stick as much.

  4. Your bright coat is so nice and cheerful for winter and it looks great with the brown skirt! I find midi lengths really tricky to wear, but I've been trying to think outside the box and be a bit more open to them - I have a floral midi dress I love! :)

Hope that your week is going well :) It's a busy week here as it's my first week back at work after the Christmas break! I've got what I wore for Christmas up on the blog now.

  6. Those cold, crisp but sunny days are the best in winter, aren't they? I love this look with your midi skirt, Ivana! I love boots with midis - I've never stopped wearing midis in all the time I've blogged, and it's nice to see them coming around into fashion again (about time!).

Good for you for shopping your closet! I enjoy the second-hand hunt so much (it's mental therapy for me) that I don't think I could do a no-buy stretch for very long, but I really admire that you've had many of your pieces for a long time. I still have pieces in my closet that I've had for 10+ years!

  9. That's a great look on you and I adore the scenery - just look at that glorious sunshine. I can deal with cold weather when it's sunny and bright.
I've only embraced midi length in the last couple of years - I've always felt midi to be a bit mediocre - preferring maxi or mini but like you say, it's a good length with a coat and knee length boots. xxx

    1. Thank you Vix! I feel the same way. When it's sunny, no cold seems that bad. Maxi or minis are more dramatic but I like how midis allow us to show off our boots.

  10. Hi Ivana
Because of my broken foot I prefer to use too midi skirts they hide the boot I wear.
I loved the way you styled the skirt, but I don't like winter, I love winter clothes but I don't like the cold!!
You are amazing Ivana, if no one told you that before I tell you!!

  13. Happy New Year! I'm like you, I don't like buying an item and only wearing it once. Defeats the purpose and in todays wasteful world it really doesn't sit right with me. I love wearing maxi's with boots underneath. I hadn't realised how amazing it is until I tried this myself a while back too.

  19. I think I have a love/hate relationship with winter but I'm beginning to like it more. A midi skirt can be a great style choice during the winter months especially since you can wear tights or in my case long underwear along with knee high boots to stay warm. And a great statement coat is always a good bet.
