HOW TO WEAR A SWEATER DRESS IN A CHIC WAY?

Sweater dresses are, quite possibly,  the only item that is even more cozy than a sweater. Well, if we don't count oversize sweaters for they are really just a different kind of sweater dresses, aren't they?  I mean oversize sweater can be styled as sweater dresses too. I wonder isn't that how sweater dresses came to be? How do you like to style your sweater dresses? I sometimes pair them with leggings and tights, but once in a while I do like to wear a pair of jeans. That presents me with the following dilemma: how to wear a sweater dress with jeans and still look chic? Sweater dresses are wonderfully warm and paired with coats and jeans, they can be the perfect solution for the colder days. Still, how to pull it off without looking sloppy? The thing is that sweater dresses might not be the most flattering option with jeans, especially if they are lighter in colour and the jeans are blue. I imagine that an all black styling would be an easy choice, but that's too easy. If you want to play it safe, sure wear a black sweater dress with black jeans, but I don't think that's the only way to look chic.

THE STORY OF AN OUTFIT
My outfit proposal is all about neutral (but light tones) because I do get bored of wearing dark colours in autumn & winter. I have paired this light grey sweater dress with blue jeans and a grey coat. By choosing the coat in the same colour palette, I have hopefully made this outfit shift toward an elegant style. Jeans are always casual, so to dress them up you need to rely on other pieces and accessories. This grey coat is pretty elegant despite being oversize and I think it looks quite chic, especially worn on the shoulders (not the best option if it is already bitter cold where you live but I'm lucky to live where winters are mild). What else did I do to make this outfit more chic? I have paired these jeans with black heeled boots and a simple black bag to dress it up. I also opted to wear a chic scarf as belt, not only to be warmer, but also to raise the center of the outfit and make it more elongating. That is how you can wear a sweater dress in a chic way, even if you pair it with jeans. I really felt cozy in this styling. I didn't link up any of the items because they are all quite old. Not vintage, just old as in I had them for a few years. You guys know I shop my closet all the time, which brings me to reflection about how I styled these items before. SHOPPING OUR CLOSETS AND WEARING THE CLOTHES we probably have is about as sustainable as we can get!

VISITING SPLIT CITY IS ALWAYS A GOOD IDEA....
These images were taken in Split city, a month or so ago. The weather hasn't changed much since, it's a bit colder and that's about it, we still get warm and sunny days because that's what Mediterranean is all about. I guess that for me a sunny Christmas is nothing out of the ordinary. We rarely get a snow for Christmas, I think it has only happened a few times in my entire life. Now that I think of it, I have probably spent most of my winter holidays in Split city. This is where I have celebrated most of my Christmases (Easter days on the other hand where mostly spent on island Hvar).  More than a decade ago, I moved to Mostar but it is only in the last seven years that I have celebrated Christmas there. Where will I celebrate it his year? Island Hvar, Split or Mostar? You know, I'm not even sure. Maybe I will keep it a secret.

  3. Such a cute knit dress, it looks great over your jeans! I used to have a similar knit and I would wear it over jeans too, a good few years ago now though! It was wool so being Brisbane you don't need to wear wool often and I decided to donate it!

Hope that you're having a good week :) We went to the Christmas event at a Theme park last night, so much fun! :)

  4. I am boring and usually just wear my sweater dresses with tights! I love this look - the scarf as a belt is particularly chic and really elevates the whole outfit.

    Happy almost Christmas!

  6. That looks great worn over jeans, the belt as a scarf is a stylish touch. The light is beautiful in your photos, here in the UK its perpetually grey at the moment, very depressing. x

    1. Yes, I imagine grey weather gets depressive after a while. I like changeable weather and it's always nice to see a sunny day.

    Baci!

  10. Although I had one or two sweater dresses in my wardrobe in the past, there currently aren't any lurking in there, as it's not really/no longer my style. If I would wear a sweater dress - never say never - I guess it would be with opaques. I do think your sweater dress fits you perfectly, and I love how you styled it over jeans, with a scarf used as a belt. And how lucky you are with the weather. We had a couple of reasonably sunny days, but it has been raining a lot and most days are just grey and miserable. Wishing you a wonderful Christmas time, Ivana, wherever you decide to celebrate! xxx

  13. Sweater dresses are such a cozy choice for the cooler weather I really like how you styled this one a tunic over jeans. I know what you mean about getting bored with wearing dark colors during autumn and winter but I think we should just forget about such rules and just wear what makes us happy ;p

  15. I'd usually wear a sweater dress with leggings or tights or with jeans. I had a colleague wearing one today- it was a wonderful baggy one she wore with leggings and boots and she looked so stylish in it AND super cosy! It was great!

  16. You're right that it's tough to style a sweater-dress with jeans, but it's worth it because that's a really cozy combination. I love how you did it!

I hope you're enjoying your winter so far.

  21. Oh, Ivana. I just love this idea. I'm not even sure why I never thought about it before. But I love sweater dresses, and the disadvantage is they tend to stick to tights. So jeans would be perfect.

  24. Such a nice garment Ivana, actually there are many ways to have clothes made with knit that are not the typical sweater and that's the nice thing about fashion: to get creative and play with all the possibilities.

This dress is so nice, I see that it was a good and intelligent purchase since there are many ways to wear them right? :D That's the coolest thing about a fashion piece, to use it a lot and I congratulate you for this sustainable fashion ideas, you're one of the few bloggers that really go beyond with this idea.

    Best regards dear
