outfit post/ odjevna objava

'Yes, alone we are, deeply alone, and always in store for us, a layer of loneliness even deeper. There is nothing we can do to dispose of that. No, loneliness shouldn't surprise us, as astonishing to experience as it may be. You can try turning yourself inside out, but all you are then is inside out and lonely instead of inside in and lonely.' Philip Roth, American Pastoral

" Da, mi smo sami, istinski sami i uvijek je ono što nas čeka  sloj usamljenosti još dublji. Ništa ne možemo učiniti da bi se toga riješili. Ne, usamljenost nas ne bih trebala čuditi koliko god zapanjujuće to iskustvo može biti. Možeš se pokušati preokrenuti iznutra vani, ali onda je sve si preokrenut iznutra vani i usamljen umjesto okrenut unutra i usamljen. Philip Roth, Američka Pastorala

I didn't expect a novel by Philip Roth to be so hearth-breaking. There is something more to this novel that just his ferocious drive to get at the bottom of things and his evident talent as a novelist, something I cannot quite put my finger on...something quite vulnerable in the way it is written. I have yet to finish it, but I'm somewhat surprised by how sad it has made me feel. Exactly why, I cannot say...or perhaps I can but I don't care to. At any rate, I won't go into it any further. The photographs were taken last Saturday. As you can see I was distracted by two adorable puppies which resulted in less time dedicated to  photography, but undoubtedly it was a fun distraction. I believe that animals know an animal lover when they see one. It is not a rare occurrence that their instincts are superior to our own.

Kakogod, neću dalje zalaziti u to.

  3. Love this post, Ivana, I'm a huge fan whenever you insert a poem or a paragraph from something that you're reading. I especially like the third picture of you, there's something so beautiful and serene about you in that picture.

  8. The passage at the very beginning of your article is indeed incredibly beautiful. It makes me sad, because I can relate...I'm sure many can, and that's what makes it so powerful.

On a happier note, the puppies are the cutest! And I totally agree when it comes to animal instincts! I've never met a child or animal that didn't immediately like me. I think they can feel/sense my unconditional love for them :)

  11. These pictures are wonderful...so pretty and such cute dogs too :)) Love the scenery too. Loneliness can be great or it can eventually be very sad. We can learn a lot about ourselves being alone, but always being alone can be sad for the heart as sharing experiences and thoughts is an even greater thing. But, I loved this!! Happy Friday my dear, I hope your weekend is bliss xx

    1. It's wonderful to share things but sometimes for whatever reasons we just can't ... I think that is when we feel the most lonely, even if we're surrounded by people who care for us and for whom we care about deeply.

  30. Dear Ivana, I remember often the quote: "You come alone to this world and you leave this world alone." Therefore I can really understand how touched you are by the words from Philip Roth. A lot of people try anything for distraction. I think it helps if we admit what is true ... the lonleliness. But: I'm enraptured by your beauty of the pictures and the pictures in general! Especially the 3rd pictures show a lot of from your beautiful and senseful personality and your deep soul! Wow, you look adorable on this picture and on the others, too! And for sure the puppies are so cute, no wonder that they checked that you are an animal lover :) Happy weekend!

February recap / sažetak veljače

You have seen (more or less) what was February like for me. Now tell me... what was February like for you? Are you happy that it's already March or do you feel like time is flying too fast? Are you looking forward to the spring?

As far as blogging goes, it seems that I have became more focused on fashion illustrations. In the next month the illustrations will have their place, but there will be more focus on DIY....or at least I think so, because I'm kind of heading in that direction. Apart from that, I have no plans. I have so many ideas when it comes to what I want to blog about, that I often have hard time deciding what not to include. As always, feel free to write about what you would like to see.

Wearing the First Dress I Ever Made: A Grey Midi Dress

Here it is: the first dress I have ever made entirely by myself. I did make some summer dresses in the past, but I had sown them without a pattern and a sewing machine and at any rate I wouldn't call them very accomplished. I mean, they weren't nearly as polished as this dress and they were not nearly as complex to make. I'm very happy with how this dress turned out. I'm even happier I took this sewing course in the first place because now I can make more dresses like this one! If you remember my November highlights post, you might remember that I've mentioned how I've recently finished a beginning fashion tailoring and sewing course with designer Stanka Zovko.

I promised to show you the dress I made for my course 'graduation'. At the end of this lovely sewing course, you get to choose not only what you're going to make, but also the material and the pattern.  The sewing pattern is typically chosen from one of the sewing magazines this designer has …

How To Style Animal Print? + An Autumnal Fairy Tale at Ethno Village Near Medugorje

With winter at our doorstep, I think it's important to make the most out of the left over autumn days. With that in mind, my husband and I payed another visit to our favourite (still not officially opened!) ethno village in vicinity of Medugorje. I wrote about this eco/ethno village a number of times, so if you want to know more (or just see more photographs) feel free to check out my old posts herehereherehere and here.  Autumn is Herzegovina is always gorgeous, and this year hasn't been an exception. We had some sudden weather changes and drastic changes of temperature, but I would still describe this autumn as a beautiful one. The Sunday this photographs were taken on was rather gorgeous, so I'm certainly glad we went on this little trip. I know I'm repeating myself, but I do cherish moments like this. Every time I step into this little village, I feel as if the time has stopped or rather like I have just travelled in time. It's such a charming place! I h…
