SPRING IN SPLIT : 3 OUTFITS, ONE WORN FOR AN ART EXHIBITION

Hello! Spring break is officially over for me. Today was my second day back at work and I'm exhausted. The first day was fun, we've all happy to see one another again and all that, but the second day tired me out. The end of the week is far away, too. It takes time to get used to working from 7 to 5 again. 

I divided my Spring break between my favourite three places and two countries:  island Hvar & Split (in Croatia) and Mostar (in Bosnia and Herzegovina).


I visited an art exhibition and that was fun, too. The art exhibition was by Croatian illustrator Filip Čulić. The exhibition included his illustrations and comic book art. It's open until the end of April, so if you're in Split, check it out (more information here).


I love Split's city library. They always organize fun stuff. There usually is always an exhibition of some kind at the central library. I'm a big fan of libraries. Library membership is the best money you'll ever spend.

Ciklus vlastitih radova čini 30 radova od kojih su ilustracije i stripovi crtani rapidografom, markerima i olovkom uz kasniju digitalnu obradu

Naziv izložbe „Priče iz ladovine“ je sinonim za ćakule ljudi koji sjede u hladovini i pričaju priče izmišljenog’ ili stvarnog karaktera. Eksperimentirajući s oblicima, plohama i linijama, stvaraju se različite optičke iluzije, uzorci i likovi.

Odnosom detalja i cjeline kreira vlastiti rukopis i svijet, a radovi nerijetko obiluju nadrealističkim životinjskim i humanoidnim likovima te hibridima iz mašte. Neki likovi inspirirani su stripom i crtanim filmovima, a drugi snovima i pričama iz narodne predaje. Upravo su oni nositelji začudnog, morbidnog, grotesknog ili pak komičnog karaktera ilustracija.

Niz tema kojima se autor bavi vrlo je osebujno određen i inspiriran trenutkom crtanja pa tako obrađuje teme identiteta, apsurdnih situacija, ljudskog stanja duha, prirode te odnosa ljudi i grada. Iako je u svakom radu ostavio osobni trag’, želja autora je da promatrači pronađu svoju verziju značenja i daju vlastito viđenje tema.

Filip Čulić (1996., Virovitica) završio je Školu likovnih umjetnosti 2015. god., a status prvostupnika dobio je 2020. god. na Umjetničkoj akademiji u Splitu, smjer Dizajna vizualnih komunikacija. Trenutno završava diplomski studij Animiranog filma i novih medija na modulu za Animirani film pri Akademiji likovnih umjetnosti u Zagrebu. Bavi se freelance radom u područku grafičkog dizajna i animacije.

    You spring break sounds and looks amazing you got a lot in and the art exhibit looked excellent. I want to a Mark Ryden exhibit once and it was incredible. I love all the looks you put together and you are so lucky you get to travel like this!

    I love libraries too! It's true what you said. Best membership to ever have. You look fantastic as usual and I'm really adoring your hair. How shiny and super healthy! I've cut mine into a bob for this year and I am relearning how to take care of my hair once again. Congrats on your new job and I hope you're taking good care of your health too!

Hello, there! In this post, I'll show you around Stobreč, a charming historical village that has become a tourist resort. Located between Split city and Podstrana , this little village is a wonderful destination for a stroll or a day at the beach. It's actually been inhabited since the ancient times. Starting its life as a Greek colony, this village is genuinely historical. It's so closely tied to Split city, you can hardly tell where one ends and the other begins. In fact, administratively Strobreč is a part of Split city.  Hello! In this post, I'll share a sustainable baby blue and leopard spring styling. A pale blue might not be the first choice with leopard, but why not? For me leopard print is sort of a classic. I actually love to pair it with all kinds of colours, from more vibrant ones to pales ones. In the past, I paired it with cobalt blue . I definitely do not feel that leopard should be worn only with neutral colours. OIL PASTELS VS. WATERCOLOUR PENCILS (SPLIT, FIRULE BEACH)

If you remember in my last posts I shared a seascape sketch with you. Today I will show you the completed version. I did complete this watercolour pencil sketch the same day I started it. There was also a version I made with oil pastels. In case anyone is wondering, I don't have these two with me anymore. I shipped some of my art to one (amateur) art gallery yesterday. The watercolour landscape I'm sharing with you today was among the paintings sent while the pastel version of this scene was sent to a friend.  Both of them were sketched on a lovely sunny day on Firule beach in Split (it has gotten colder in the meantime). THE ISLAND OF THE MISSING TREES BY ELIF SHAFAK (BOOK REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATION)

Today I shall review The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak. I was actually gifted this book. What a wonderful present it proved to be! Published in 2021, this postmodern  novel  follows two  story lines and uses framed narration.  The Island of Missing Trees  tells the life story of a Greek Turkish couple and their adolescent daughter.  This novel examines and explores a number of topics such as identity, migration, immigrant life, war trauma, memory, love and family. It's an ambitious novel that examines serious topics with due respect and sensitivity . I read it months ago, but I remember it vividly. Honestly, I cried a lot while reading this novel. It really moved me greatly. In fact, that is probably why it took me this long to finish this book review. I needed to emotionally process the story.   The Island of Missing Trees is   set in London and Cyprus. Sights to see, places to visit / Znamenitosti za vidjeti, mjesta za posjetiti -----Goranci

My Sights to see, places to visit feature would surely be missing something if I didn't include this little village Goranci in the list of places to visit. This charming little village is situated in the vicinity of Mostar.  I love to go there to espace the city heat.  If you are into cycling, you'd be happy to hear that you can rent a bike for free. You just need to leave your ID in the restaurant Goranci and you can take the bike. There is a wonderful cycling and pedestrian walk so be sure to check it out. As of recently, there is also a beautiful park at your disposal. This park is growing daily as new things are added to it(toys for kids and that sorts of stuff). If you look closely, you'll be able to see that some decorative trees are still being planted at the enterance to this park.  You can read some of my previous posts about this village here , here and here . Have I saved the best for last? I'll let you be the judge of that. This is my third and last post  (links for the  first one and the  second one ) from Peć Mlini and today I'll show you the spring of the river Tihaljina. This freshwater spring is absolutely beautiful. I was even fortunate enough to see a freshwater crab there, but unfortunately I don't know its scientific name. In vain I researched the internet, the name of this freshwater crab will remain a mystery to me. Nevertheless, it is another indication of how pure this water really is. Perfect place for a swim, my friends assured me! Do you remember my posts about Trebižad river?  Anyhow, according to wikipedia, because of the fact that Trebižad river disappears and reappears many times, people have developed a total of nine names for it.In the past they didn't know it is one and the same river.
