Today I'll share some of my creative pursuits with you. As some of you know, I have quite a few creative hobbies. Landscape painting is one of them but so is fashion illustration. I haven't had the time to pursue these creative interests much as of late, but I somehow I did manage to find some time to sneak in some creative and artistic work. Scroll down to see what I have been into and see a mixture of new art projects and remixes of some of my older art pieces and illustrations.
MUSTARD YELLOW PAIRED WITH DARKER COLOURS INSPO
This is a casual styling I wore for a stroll around Vrboska and Stari Grad town. I enjoy wearing mustard yellow with darker colours. I think it makes for a great contest. This was also the day when I entangled my braids. It's been a while since I braided my hair like this. The cats were very intrigued by my hairstyle. One of them went so far as to sniff my braids. It shows you how intelligent and perceptive cats are. They even notice little things like hair style change. It's been a while since I braided my hair like this. Braids of various kinds are a big part of ethical Croatian hairstyles. I've actually always enjoyed learning about Croatian culture and folklore so I'm often inspired to braid my hair. When I was a teenager, I would sport a completely different braided hairstyle to school on daily basis. Once when I came with my hair just let down, my colleagues asked me whether I was ok because they were so used to seeing me with elaborate hairstyles. I always braided my hair by myself, it's something I learned to do just by watching the girls who were folklore dancers who could do it themselves and without a mirror. There weren't tutorials when I was a teen, but somehow we managed. I must have learned to it well because professional folklore dancers assumed I was one of them on a few occasions. Unfortunately, I never learned to dance the Croatian folklore dances. I tried to learn as an adult but it was very hard because they are so elaborate. I would have to start from the beginning and folklore groups are usually formed of people who are already familiar with the dances. Croatian traditional dance culture can boost with hundreds of completely unique and different folklore dances. Anyhow, as much as I love braids in all shapes and forms, there is something you should know about tiny braids. This hairstyle is only suitable for people with thick hair. If you have fair and thin hair, you shouldn't wear it because it can cause hair loss. If you happen to have thin hair and you're wearing tiny braids for some kind of a cultural or a folklore occasion, untangle it when you get back home. When styling braids, you should always consider your hair type. If your hair is strong, thick and healthy, then you can wear any kind of braid style. If it isn't, then you should be more careful.
I WEAR MY ART: WEARING A T-SHIRT WITH A PRINT OF MY FASHION ILLUSTRATIONS
Bellow is a very similar outfit as this one, but this time I wore one of my graphic t-shirt. Again, a similar one is available via
Redbubble but this one is from a local printer.
NEW FASHION ILLUSTRATION- THE PUFFED SLEEVE BLOUSE AND SHORTS
This is a simple fashion illustration I drew with a pencil while travelling. The outfit I illustrated consists of a puffed sleeve blouse and shorts. I do enjoy a good statement sleeve! How about you?
BALL POINT PEN AND PENCIL SKETCHES
Bellow you can see some of my new sketches. I made most of these on a ferry ride.

MORE DIGITAL ART EXPERIMENTS- REMIXING MY OLD ILLUSTRATIONS
Bellow you can see some of my art pieces made with digital effects. I sometimes use digital effects to change my illustrations. I don't do full digital art, but I draw digitally on top of my pencil or watercolour illustration. Most of them are available for purchase in my Redbubble shop.
NEW ACRYLIC PAINTING OF TORAC (PAINTED OVER AN OLD PAINTING)
Bellow is a relatively new acrylic painting. I painted this one a month or two ago over an older painting of mine. I'm quite happy with how it turned out. I painted it in a short span of time (maybe an hour or something like that) because I was just visiting Torac bay and it was getting darker. It was a race against the time sort of thing but it turned out well. As they say, all is well that ends well.

DeleteZa vrijeme jesenskih mjeseci mustard yellow je jedna od mojih omiljenih nijansi i tvoj džemper izgleda predivno. Također sam fascinirana nijansama plave i smargdne boje more u pozadini. Jako mi se sviđaju tvoje ilustracije i kako predstvljaš drugačije izraze lica, a landscape slika mi je definitivno omiljena.

DeleteMustard is a lovely shade for fall and the way you have styled your sweater with dark pants really emphasizes the color even more. I'm not sure if I remember your braiding your hair but this hairstyle is very pretty on you. Always enjoy when you share your artwork :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Rowena.

DeleteThat mustard polo neck is gorgeous on you, and I'm loving the plaits and the story behind them. As usual I am in awe of your talent, both for fashion illustration and landscapes. How creative that you painted a new landscape on top of that old painting. I would never have known if you hadn't pointed it out. Love the cute sailing boat dress you are wearing too! xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you.
DeleteYour yellow sweater is fabulous on you, Ivana! I love your braids too, and am envious of your abilities and your thick hair! My own hair is fine and wispy - I can do a French braid, but it tends to just slide out over time.
ReplyDeleteYour landscapes and fashion art drawings are so fun to see!
Thanks, I love this sweater. I have been wearing it a lot lately.
Comunque quel mare meraviglioso mi incanta sempre!
Baci!

DeleteGreat artwork and lovely photos. Love the hair :-D
ReplyDeleteHey Ivana,
ReplyDeleteWhat a creative and outstanding blog post! It is like a story that stands on creativity and art mixing it up with traditions and the way you understand how creation influences in many of the things we culturally do.
I know your favorite thing to do when it comes to art is to take inspiration from many places and use the most unexpected resources and that's why I really like what you do in Moda Odaradosti. I didn't know the back up about those braids and it was pretty interesting to discover that something we tend to see today on Pinterest on Instagram comes from an old story with interesting roots, like the Croatian dance that hears so interesting and make me think about many of the traditions in Spain and in Mexico too, they are different but the connection with the creation is there!
I loved all the paintings and illustrations, couldn't pick just one but all of them create a beautiful gallery and collection in this article!
Pablo
Hey Fungi
Thank you Pablo.
DeleteI do admire your dedication to your art! The new landscapes are really beautiful and it was interesting to see the girl added digitally to the first one.
ReplyDeleteI like Mustard too, esp with a dark colour- it is nice to see them paired- one of my favourite Clara outfits features a mustard top with a darker tunic dress and black boots.
Your mustard puffed sleeve outfit idea is a great one! I do actually own a mustard blouse with puffed sleeves!
I'm sure that blouse is lovely. Have I seen it yet?
