VRBOSKA ON ISLAND HVAR IN AUTUMN

Hello there! As some of you may know, I'm currently enjoying Autumn in Bosnia and Herzegovina. However, I actually greeted the change of season on island Hvar. I was there until fairly recently, so let me show you the colours of Autumn in Vrboska on island Hvar. Do you remember my last post about Vrboska?  Today I'll talk a bit about some of the things you can see and do in Vrboska on island Hvar. This charming little village has had quite an interesting history. Moreover, the nature surrounding it is simply gorgeous.

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN VRBOSKA IN AUTUMN?

BEACH SOLINE & BEACH KAMENJERA- IDEAL AREAS FOR HIKING AND SUNBATHING

Our first destination in Vrboska is beach Soline. Throughout my stay on island Hvar, I often visited this beach. In the colder months it is a great destination because it is so abundant in sunshine. Plus, there are lovely hiking paths in the vicinity. You can walk all the way to Vrboska village as well or enjoy a view of Jelsa from the distance. You can get a fair view of island Hvar  from here as well as island Brač.

THE STORY OF MY OUTFIT #1- HOW TO STYLE A SUMMER DRESS FOR AUTUMN?

I often wear my summer dresses in Autumn months as well. I picked up this nautical print dress in Mana with intention of wearing it to the beach. I ended up wearing it a couple of times this Autumn as well. Here I paired it with a burgundy faux leather jacket (also from Mana), burgundy tights and Startas sneakers. Startas sneakers are one of the icons of Croatian design.  P.S. The links lead to old posts with the same clothing items because I believe in sustainable fashion and shopping one's closet. I will often link up the latest time I wore it and sometimes I will link up all the ways I wore an item. I also tend to link up to older relevant posts, for example about a location I already visited in the past.

THE FORTRESS CHURCH OF SAINT MARY OF MERCY

God, this church is really gorgeous. There are quite a few fortified villas and churches on island Hvar, but this one is something special. Built in 1527, following a Turkish attacked in which Vrboska village was burned to the ground, this beautiful historical church is today one of Vrboska's highlights.  This church is perhaps the most majestic of  all island's fortified churches because it is actually more than just a fortified church, it's a genuine fortress church. It is definitely worth a visit- no mater the season. In addition, this church can boost with some valuable works of art, most notably a number of historical paintings.

THE STORY OF MY OUTFIT
This is actually an outfit that I wore to work, that is to teach in a local Vrboska school. After my working day, we snapped some photographs next to the church. I'm wearing a pair of brown trousers from Uzor (one of Croatian brands that is no more), a silk blouse, a brown coat and a pair of comfortable biker boots.  All items I had and loved for a long time.

THE KULA KAŠTICAL - 16TH  CENTURY WATCHING TOWER
I have another historical sight to recommend visiting and that is a watching tower dating back to 16th century. To get to it, you need to drive towards beach Soline and then stop about half way there (that is  when you see a sight indicating it). You need to park your car and hike for about one kilometer to get to this watching tower, but the hike is more that worth it. You'll be rewarded with beautiful views of Brač island. I hiked up to it with a colleague of mine and my husband and the three of us had a blast.

THE STORY OF MY OUTFIT- HOW I WORE IT BEFORE?
I actually wore this outfit last autumn on island Hvar. I devoted  a special post to this green dress, showing you multiple ways to style it. As for the other clothing items, I have already linked most of them up so that's about it for our fashion chat of the day.

  20. The village is gorgeous and your outfits look amazing. The church is quite unusual, but with Ottoman attacks, a fortress was surely a better option than a cathedral adorned with lots of beautiful stained glass windows.

  21. I will miss your posts on Island Hvar now that you're back in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but I'm sure you'll have a couple more up your sleeves, showing you its ever changing but always beautiful sights.
Wearing your Summer dresses into Autumn makes perfect sense, and I love how you've paired that nautical print dress with a burgundy jacket and tights.
I love the outfit you wore to work too, the pussy-bow blouse is both cute and classy.
And finally, that green dress! What an amazing colour it is, and it looks absolutely fabulous on you!
The fortress church of St. Mary of Mercy is absolutely amazing, and how fascinating is that 16th century watching tower! Thank you so much for taking us along! xxx

  27. Hi again Ivana,

It seems that Hvar Island has a plan for everybody and that the possibilities are endless... you always manage me to amaze me with an story from Hvar. Keep enjoying this beautiful place.

I loved to see the fortress with the church (reminds me of many towns in Spanish that used to have a similar fortress, like many places in Catalonia like Girona) and then the watching tower that looks like one of those toys that I used to have as a child and play with my little soldiers....

And your lilac sweater is a dream! Well, all your outfits looks great but that was my favorite piece featured in this blog post!

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
