FASHION FRIDAY ILLUSTRATION AND ART UPDATE: BAY TORAC

Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! How's life been treating you? I'm currently in Croatia. Today I'll share with you some new watercolour sketches I made while visiting bay Torac on island Hvar. My Fridays are usually about fashion illustrations but today I'll share some landscape photography with you as well. I made all of these watercolour pencil sketches while babysitting and/or chilling with my relatives in bay Torac on island Hvar. Watercolour pencils are great for travelling, plus they can also be great if you're babysitting or spending time with the little ones because kids typically find working with watercolour pencils fun. Why not work alongside the little ones? If you want kids to stay away from the screen, you need to lead with example. Many complain that their children do not want to do anything not screen related, but have you tried getting them involved in some traditional art or crafts making? Just a thought! We all spend too much time behind the screens these days. I should know, I've been blogging for almost eight years. If you have any creative hobbies not related to screen time, make sure to share them with the other people in your life! Moreover, always carry your sketchbook with you. That's the best advice I can give to anyone who struggles with finding time for their art.

I didn't spend all my time in bay Torac sketching, I also spend some time just chilling around as you can see. This is what I wore to a barbecue at a friends' house: a one piece swimsuit paired with a floral skirt. Wearing an one piece swimwear as a top is such a great idea to maximize your travel attire. I recently realized that I'm in a need of a new swimsuit as my old swimsuits are quite worn out. Since it's the end of summer, this one piece was the only one I could find in my size. Everything else was in much larger sizes. So, I finally bought a one piece swimsuit. I was always more a bikini girl, but I'm willing to try new things. If you want to know more about bay Torac, you're welcome to visit my older posts. If you would like to see more photographs from Torac bay, you can check out my old posts  herehere and hereIf you want to vacation here, I can help you get in contact with the locals.

ART UPDATE: A FASHION ILLUSTRATION, A PORTRAIT AND LANDSCAPES

Moving onto the subject of today's post and that would be art. I have to say that working with these Steadler watercolour pencils  (not sponsored) has been smooth sailing so far. I have been working with them for more than a year now and I might repurchase.  At the moment, I'm still having fun with these watercolour pencils. The first illustration I made was this portrait of a girl with blue eyes and dark eyes.  The style is semi-realistic. As usual, the face and the neck are a bit longer than they could be realistically. I've been told that my style resembles Modigliani. I suppose it sometimes does. I do like the longer silhouette and this often gets reflected in the portraits I paint or sketch.  It didn't took me too long to complete this portrait. I think it turned out pretty good, so I uploaded this one to my redbubble shop as well.

Next watercolour illustration I have to share with you is just a quick fashion sketch depicting a brunette in a pink gown. I didn't loose time on this one, it was a super quick sketch really. I might use it as a reference for a more complex illustration sometime in the future.

WATERCOLOUR PENCIL ON PAPER: LANDSCAPES
I also made a few landscape illustration inspired by bay Torac. Scroll down to see the work in process photographs as well as the completed paintings. I didn't have time to take the final finished photo on the first landscape in the row because I gifted it to a relative that was passing by while I was painting. The other two landscapes are still with me. One of them ended up in the sea accidentely (the wind blew it away) but I was able to salvage it and now I kind of like how the sea made the colours almost vanish. I repainted that one and I think it ended up looking cool.

I don't have a finished photo of this landscape because I gifted it on the go.

LANDSCAPE INSPIRED BY BAY TORAC #2

This is the landscape sketch that ended up in the sea. Bellow you can see what it looked like as a sketch. I think it ended up looking pretty well considering that it spend moments floating in the sea. The last time I jumped in the sea to save something was quite some time ago. FASHION FRIDAY ILLUSTRATION AND ART UPDATE: BAY TORACFASHION FRIDAY ILLUSTRATION AND ART UPDATE: BAY TORAC

This one took me a long time to finish. I don't remember the exact time I spent working on it but I remember it gave me horrible back pain so it must have been a while. Scroll down to see the work process. This is another watercolour pencil sketch. I first sketched it with watercolour pencils and then I applied water and turned it into a watercolour.

  15. Predivne ilustracije, jako mi se sviđa kako vjerno dočaraš prizor ispred sebe i preneseš ga na papir. Jako si talentirana. Također Hvar je predivan i savršeno je što možeš uživati u ljepotama toga otoka.

    1. Yes, proportions can be tricky. Try dividing the landscape with vertical and horizontal lines, that helps with the proportions. I do that when I paint boats because there the portions are really important. When it comes to faces, I just wing it but yes lines can be helpful there-just delete them when you finish sketching. The best thing is to practice with fashion illustration temples (when it comes to fashion illustration).

  20. Hey Ivana, I hope you enjoyed your days in Croatia!

Of course I totally agree with you, we must always carry with a sketchbook, even if it is a small one and of course some art materials.... and that's the best to practice specially when we don't have a lot of time in the day to day! Yours is cool and practical!

I love all the experiments, specially the portrait and the way you visualize Torac through your art, looks deeply magical and peaceful!

I recommend you to get a portable watercolor brush, you're gonna love it if you're traveling!
