Hello dear blog readers and fellow bloggers! In this post, I'll show you two ways I have styled this burgundy jacket in Mostar, Bosnia and Herzegovina. So, this post will be a mixture of sustainable fashion and travel. Besides showing you these two outfits, I'll also show you around beautiful Mostar city. You'll be able to see the city center and the famous old bridge. As you might know, I live and work in this gorgeous historical city. I love to share the beauties of Bosnia & Herzegovina with you in my posts. There's a lot to see and do in this little European country.
Being a tourist in your own area is a great way to do sustainable tourism. How can we be sustainable with fashion? Well, one of the best ways to do it is by shopping your own closet. That's why I selected two outfits featuring this lovely burgundy jacket. I bought it in a Mana store on island Hvar (Croatia) four years ago, and recently I pulled it out of my closet again. One of its sleeves was damaged and I wasn't sure how to mend it. My husband helped me by suggesting that we just glue it, so that's what we did, and now I'm wearing this burgundy jacket again. According to fashion magazines such as Vogue and Marie Claire, burgundy is trending. I guess that proves that you can be trendy while shopping your closet! The other clothing items featured in this post are also from my closet. Scroll down to read and find out more!
SUSTAINABLE FASHION FILES AKA THE STORY OF MY OUTFIT
LET'S START WITH THE FIRST OUTFIT OF THE DAY- THE BURGUDY JACKET PAIRED WITH A YELLOW TARTAN SKIRT AND DOCTOR MARTENS BOOTS
I wore this outfit for a stroll with my husband. We took some photography next to the Saint Matheus church (Sv.Matej), and then we went and had a cup of coffee at one of our favourite cafes in Mostar that offers a lovely view of Neretva river. It was a nice and comfy weekend outfit. I loved the colours in this look. I think burgundy and yellow are a great combo. Do you guys agree?
HOW I WORE THIS BURGUNDY JACKET BEFORE?
When I searched my blog, I found out more than twenty published outfits with this jacket. Most of these outfit photos were taken while I lived on island Hvar, so seeing these posts was a trip down the memory lane. Below are the links to twenty something outfits featuring this burgundy jacket. It's such a versatile piece. I feel like it is so easy to style and it seems to elevate any outfit.
This would be my comfy outfit proposal. As you can see, here I paired my yellow jumpsuit with sneakers and a burgundy jacket.
Once again, an outfit post with multiple ways to style something, and one of those outfits included this burgundy jacket.
Some of those ways include pairing the above mentioned skirt with this burgundy jacket (I also wore matching burgundy tights and shoes in that post). I don't own those burgundy heels anymore, the pair was second hand, and it fell apart pretty quickly.
Here I paired it with a black vintage dress with silver details and pointy heeled boots.
In this spring to summer styling, I wore this burgundy jacket with a floral dress and sneakers.
In this post (that was all about fashion illustration), I also showed you how to wear this burgundy jacket with a long light beige skirt, a blue turtleneck and black heeled boots.
Among these six outfits, there was a look with a semi pleated skirt, a green t-shirt and this burgundy jacket.
In this post, I reflected about life on island Hvar and shared five outfits. One of these outfits featured this burgundy jacket paired with a blue pleated skirt, camel boots and a mustard turtleneck. That was a pretty cool outfit. I think it was one of my favourite ones.
Among these four Autumn stylings, there was an outfit that featured this burgundy jacket and for that look I paired it with zebra leggings, a pink dress and a striped tote. Not a bad look, but perhaps next time I would wear it with plain black leggings.
In this outfit I wore for a visit to Hvar town, I paired it with a maxi gypsy skirt, a mustard turtleneck, a striped tote and black biker boots.
I showed you a couple of outfits in this post, and one of them featured this burgundy jacket paired with blue jeans, neutral t-shirt and beige loafers.
Another outfit proposal with featuring this burgundy jacket and a printed t-shirt (with my art). I also paired it with a blue pleated dress I paired it with in another outfit I wore to visit Hvar town.
In this post, I shared a book review but also an outfit featuring this burgundy jacket and a vintage midi cobalt blue skirt.
In this outfit and travel post, you saw me style this burgundy jacket with a navy print dress and Startas sneakers. It was a fun and comfy styling.
In this book review post, you can see me pairing this burgundy jacket with a denim skirt with floral patches and striped summer cap.
In this post, I wore this burgundy jacket with navy blue pants, olive shirt and brown heeled boots.
In this post, I paired this burgundy jacket with a dusty pink skirt and a lilac top, pattern tights and biker boots. I also wore a black puffer on top.
This was my first wearing of this burgundy jacket or at any rate my first wearing on the blog. I paired it with a peplum dress, brown boots and a short black coat.
22& 23) TWO OUTFITS I'M SHARING TODAY
HOW I WORE DOC MARTENS BOOTS BEFORE?
In this post, you can find 20 outfits with this vintage pair of doc martens.
In this post you can see another way to style this pair of boots with an all black outfit.
This was a fun winter styling. It was the year I wore mostly black outfits because I was in mourning.
Two more all black winter outfits I wore for strolling Mostar city. You can find more photographs of Mostar there (in case this post leaves you wanting more).
HOW I WORE THIS TARTAN SKIRT BEFORE?
THE HIGH WAIST YELLOW TARTAN SKIRT - vintage, inherited from my mother.
What can I say about this skirt that I haven't said already? Every time I wear it on my blog, you guys love it. I inherited this skirt from my mother and I like it to bits. It always fits perfectly, even occasionally when my weight fluctuates or when I'm bloated. How I wore it before? Buckle up, this trip down the memory lane is going to be a long one.
5) See how I wore
this clueless skirt with brown boots, a black top and green tartan jacket in 2014.
Now, it's time to share my second styling. I wore this for a walk around Mostar city. Again, it was a comfortable styling but it also felt chic, with the pussy bow blouse and all. I'm not keen on jeans, but I do love this particular pair.
As you can see, the weather was lovely and the city was filled with tourists. Everyone loves the view from the Old Bridge!
SECOND STYLING- BURGUNDY JACKET STYLED WITH A LONG OLIVE VEST, STRAIGHT CUT BLUE JEANS, BURGUNDY BAG, A RED BOW TIE BLOUSE AND FAUX SNAKE SKIN POINTY BOOTS
HOW I WORE THIS LONG OLIVE GREEN VEST BEFORE?
HOW I WORE THIS PAIR OF STRAIGHT CUT BLUE JEANS BEFORE?
HOW I WORE THIS BURGUNDY BAG BEFORE?
The red blouse is from a second hand shop and I'm not sure have I share it before!

OUTFIT TIPS FOR SIGHTSEEING MOSTAR
My first advice to you would be to wear flats. In fact, flats are a must when visiting Mostar historical city centre. As you can see in the photographs, the pavements in historical part of Mostar city are made from stones. These lovely rocks were probably taken from the banks of Neretva river. As beautiful as they are, they're not easy to walk on. My second advice would be to dress for the weather. If you are visiting in winter, a nice warm puffer jacket or coat should keep you nice and cozy.
MOST MEANS BRIDGE IN OUR LANGUAGE
MOSTAR- A PERSON WHO COLLECT MONEY FOR PASSING THE BRIDGE
MOSTAR WAS ACTUALLY NAMED AFTER THE PEOPLE WHO USED TO COLLECT MONEY FOR PASSING OF THE BRIDGE
THERE IS NO FEE FOR CROSSING THE BRIDGE THESE DAYS! YOU CAN VISIT ALL THE BRIDGES IN MOSTAR FOR FREE.
What to say about the old bridge that hasn't been said before?
The Old Bridge in Mostar is possibly the most famous bridge in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It is a rebuilt Ottoman style bridge, dating back to the 16th century. It is easily recognizable and often referred to as Mostar bridge (or more frequently simply as Old Bridge). Many tourists visit the Old Bridge area, so you can find many restaurants, cafes and souvenir shops at every corner. This beautiful historical bridge is one of the trademarks and symbols of Mostar city. The area around Old Bridge is a wonderful mix of Western and Eastern architectural influences, heightened by the ever present Mediterranean atmosphere and vibes.
In Mostar city you can see the historical architectural legacy left by the Ottoman (mostly 15/16th century) and Austrian Hungarian Empire (19/20th century) as well as by the other bigger and smaller cultural and ethical groups that lived or still live here. The view from the Old Bridge is stunning. I'm always writing about how gorgeous Neretva river is, but combine its beauty with the historical part of the city and you get something truly epic.
MOSTAR IS A CITY OF BRIDGES- BESIDES THE FAMOUS OLD BRIDGE THERE ARE ALSO NEW BRIDGES WORTH VISITING!
HERE IS ANOTHER RECENTLY PUBLISHED OUTFIT FOCUSING ON MOSTAR WHERE I ALSO TALKED ABOUT THIS BEAUTIFUL HISTORICAL HIGH SCHOOL YOU CAN READ MORE ABOUT BELOW
THIS BRIGHT ORANGE SCHOOL DATING TO 19 CENTURY AND BUILT BY THE AUSTRIAN EMPIRE IS POSSIBLY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL BUILDING IN MOSTAR CITY
If you visit Mostar, this historical school painted brightly orange and yellow is a one of the places you should definitely pay a visit. I'm pretty sure that it is on most 'must see in Mostar' lists. Located on the Spanish square, it draws the eye with its beauty. Indeed, you could say that the Spanish square is dominated by this historical school constructed during the rule of Austro-Hungarian Empire.
Honestly, this is probably my favourite historical building in Mostar. It was build in 1890ties. It is know as the Old Gymnasium (because it really is old) but it is actually called Gymnasium Mostar. Within these walls, United World Collage is also situated. In addition, in the back of the building, you can find American Corner.
Thank you for visiting. Happy holidays!
Lovely photos of this jacket. You look great in it :-D All the best for 2025 Ivana :-D
ReplyDeleteThank you. All the best to you as well!
DeleteHope you had a very Merry Christmas, Ivana, and all the best to you in the New Year. Thank you so much for showing your lovely city (I love the origin of Mostar's name!), and for always being a champion of Slow Fashion. You always look so stylish!
ReplyDeleteI wish you all the best too, Sheila!
DeleteI'm a big fan of playing tourist in my own city but I've never really thought about it as sustainable tourism. It really is especially if we walk or take public transportation. It's always nice to see Mostar through your eyes since you're a local. Yes Burgundy and yellow do make a good combination. I love to wear burgundy with periwinkle and lavender. Have a safe and happy new year Ivana!
ReplyDeleteYes, it can be considered sustainable tourism, especially it means of transport, not having to travel from one place to another is good for the environment. If we walk, cycle or use public transport, it's even better. I think it's important to consider cultural sustainability as well, and that's making sure that our actions don't have a negative consequence on the culture of some place. So same rules apply, like taking in account the lives of the locals, being sustainable in general by supporting locals, by choosing local products and so on.
DeleteLinda chaqueta. te deseo un feliz año.
ReplyDeleteGracias!

DeleteI love burgundy and it really suits your colouring. If you keep something for long enough it'll always come back into fashion if you're into following trends, fashion is just an endless cycle after all!
ReplyDeleteYou're lucky to have such beautiful landscapes and buildings on your doorstep as well as good weather, there's lots of interesting tings when I live in Britain's post industrial Midlands but there's only so much grey skies and damp that I can tolerate before jumping on a plane.
Keep doing what you're doing, Ivana, you're such an inspiring woman! Wishing you and your husband and happy and healthy New Year. xxx
It's true. Fashion moves in cycles. It pays off to hold on to things.
