TRAVEL WITH MY ART #16: BAY VEPRINOVA, ISLAND HVAR

Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers. Today I will reveal a new painting. It's a seascape and the medium used is acrylic paints on mixed media paper. Can you guess what inspired it? Why, again it's island Hvar. Yes, it's time for another post in TRAVEL WITH MY ART SERIES. As the title would imply, I started this series so that I could take you places with my art. Sharing photographs is a great thing, but actually painting a certain location somehow feels more special.  I'm often told I have a good eye for taking photographs, but I'm definitely more a painter than a photographer. So, sharing my paintings and illustrations of different places seems like a lovely thing to do. Besides,  you guys seems to enjoy them too. My last post was devoted to bay Lozna on island Hvar. This post will be devoted to bay Veprinova. So, let's get started.

BAY VEPRINOVA

Veprinova bay is lovely. Like most bays of southern side of island Hvar, it's a peaceful green oasis. A fun fact- it was named after wild hogs. Vepar in Croatian means a wild hog and 'veprinova' is an adjective signifying- belonging to wild hogs. Sure enough, we encountered a wild hog in vicinity. THE PROCESS OF MAKING THE PAINTING

As usual, the first thing I did was to find a reference photograph. My official blog photographer (aka husband) took this photograph. I omitted myself from this painting because I wanted to concentrate just on the beach, the waves and the gorgeous pine trees. It took me quite some time to finish this one. I'm not sure have I got it right, but generally speaking I like it. My style is a bit more loose in this one, I feel. This painting seems to be more about splashes of colour then anything else, but I like its vibrant energy.

WORK IN PROCESS PHOTOS - I only have a few 'WIP' photos to share.

FINISHED PAINTING - Don't you just love those greens and blues?

  4. Hello dear Ivana, first of all I am happy to see you back in action in the blog again! Your creativity is always contagious and I missed you over here.... hi again :D

A great selection of picture and the way it ended up inspiring up a new painting for your series is just marvelous! Good to know that you were concentrated specially in the texture of the water, the waves and the sensation caused by the sea. I think it is the core of your paintings :)

And we have to talk about the inspiration provided by Bay Veprinova, it is just pure charm and I can imagine there staying with a book, a nice drink and my notebook getting inspired.

Wishing you a lovely weekend ahead!

  5. I can't believe the number of picturesque bays situated on your beloved Island Hvar, so it doesn't come as a surprise at all that you are visiting the island - virtually or in real life - time and time again. Bay Veprinova is no exception, as it is yet again charming and idyllic, and your painting catches the place yet again magnificently! Have a lovely weekend Ivana xxx

  8. Another gorgeous location and another amazing painting, Ivana! I really like this one, although I think a bit more shadow beneath the trees is needed to give it depth and distance. I also think that subtle tide-line in the pebbly beach is needed as a perspective line to draw the eye towards the curve of the beach, as it feels a bit flat and all of the same lightness, if that makes sense. I love the water (as always), and am amazed at how quickly you paint! You are hugely talented!

I hope you are feeling better! Big hugs, and wishing you a wonderful and relaxing weekend.

    1. Thank you. You're definitely right about the shadow beneath the trees, that would look better, but towards the end of the painting, I was too tired for details so I just went for a looser interpretation of the trees. It's hard to get the landscape details right in A4 format, I find it easier to do when I'm working with a larger frame but I also like the challenge of working in a smaller frame.

  11. Now that painting reminds me of Hockney s swimming pool paintings. Similar colours and style. Love it.

  14. I love your landscape paintings. And I so need to get to Croatia one day this area is SOOOOOOO beautiful! Kind of reminds of the San Juan Islands in the PNW of the United States near Alaska.
