HVAR TOWN (SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW AND SOMETHING BLUE)

It's time for me to share another visit to Hvar town with you. These photographs were taken during a weekend stroll some time last March before the epidemic thing. I only got around to sharing this visit to Hvar town today, though. Today I'll share something old and something new with you. There is a lot to see and do in Hvar town, from stunning historical sights to renewed luxurious hotel resorts. Moreover, Hvar town is simply perfect for strolling. Indeed, the walking areas and pathways on both sides of the city are stunning, with lots of tropic and Mediterranean greenery. Hvar city is a popular tourist spot for a number of valid reasons. Scroll down to see what I have prepared for you this time.

HOTEL AMFORA
There was some gardening work going on around hotel Amfora when we visited in March, so curious creatures that we are, we popped for a view. Hotel Amfora is very grand and luxurious four star hotel. It is beautiful beach resort and it definitely looks the part. The architecture of the hotel is very modern, the location is lovely and the surroundings area is visually stunning with the cascading pools, bridges, beach bars and what not. The views this hotel offers are certainly impressive and the pine forest that surrounds it adds a sense of privacy. The city centre is only a short walk away but the bay it is situated in takes you away from the summer noise. However, if  I remember well from when I visited a few years ago, the pool area felt a bit crowded in the summer time. I remember that I was walking by and as grand at it all looked, I was't particularly drawn to staying there, even if the guests of the hotel appeared to have fun.  Personally, I'm a fan of quiet places for my vacation. I don't drink alcohol or go clubbing, so I probably wouldn't make much use of this stunning beach pool where parties are held. However, if you would like to stay in a glam and over the top hotel, hotel grand beach resort Amfora might be your cup of tea.

Near Amfora hotel there is a lovely beach that you can make use of. There aren't that many town beaches in Hvar city but there are also some lovely beaches nearby. Pakleni islands near Hvar are a great option as well. You can see them in the background of the photograph bellow as well as in most of the photographs I took. Pakleni islands are a group of islets located near Hvar city. There are regular boat rides in the summer, if you're interested in finding the best untouched beaches. There is quite a night scene there in the summer, but as I said like with this hotel busy night parties, it's not really for me. I don't feel tempted to join in the fun. It's a gorgeous modern hotel, though.
A MARCH STROLL IN HVAR TOWN- SOMETHING NEW AND SOMETHING OLD
I just love strolling the Hvar city. The mixture of grand hotels and historical buildings fascinates me. There is always something new to see as well as something old to discover. Most importantly, there is the perfect blue of the Adriatic sea to frame it all. Before this corona thing happened, I was a regular visitor to Hvar town, choosing it repeatedly for my weekend trips. In fact, I still have one or two old posts from Hvar town to share with you. At the moment, it is possible for me to visit Hvar again as there is no travelling ban across the island itself at the moment, but I'm avoiding unnecessary travel. If you want to see more of Hvar town, you can also check some of my old posts. I will probably post about it again in the week to come.

While we were strolling Hvar historical town centre, we happened onto what looked like an enchanted garden to me. I was immediately attracted by the gorgeous stone entrance and upon closer inspection, I realized where the entrance doors leads to: the ruins of the Dominican monastery and saint Mark church (there are no affiliate links in this post, I'm just linking up stuff that might interest you).  The ruins date back to the fourteen century. What has remained of the church and the monastery today mainly dates to the sixteen and seventeenth century. This church was closed down by Napoleon administration and it never really recovered despite the fact that the  ruleFrench was short lived. At the moment the remains of the Dominican monastery and saint Mark church are closed for safety reasons. You can peek through the doors but there are locked. There are plans for the reconstruction, but who knows when it will be functional again. However, the church tower survives and you can see it from just about anywhere in Hvar town.

For a closer view, I recommend taking the stairs near by. There is a lovely historical stone church next to it as well, but I wasn't able to find its name. The number of historical churches in all of the Dalmatian cities is astonishing. Sometimes I wonder whether there any more churches than people in some places. There is literally a chapel or a church at every step of the way. Anyhow, what we did next was climb the stairs and tried to get a better view of the historical church tower. It is a stunning stone tower, similar to other church towers in the area, but still unique in its way. We took some photographs near the saint Mark's church tower. Being close to it, reveals the ruins an unusual albeit stunning sight. Once you climb the stairs  near by and come in the level with the church bell tower, you can peek through and see parts of the ruins but there is much greenery so you can't really make it all out. It is a beautiful and even a fascinating sight in a sort of melancholy way, but I hope it will be restored fully some day.

  2. Hey Ivana, happy Sunday!

Another great tour around Hvar Town is always welcomed since there are many things to discover.... now I see that there are also pretty interesting architectural jewels that deserve to be seen. Didn't know you had so many churches, but the one you showed us here looks like the perfect place to study and take a picture, I like how this is surrounded by taller buildings and trees that put such a magical atmosphere.

I also loved the look you picked to stroll, that burgundy coat made a nice contrast with the background :)

    Best!

  10. What a wonderful hotel especially when it has a beach like that.
And we also love seeing the old churches. I feel like there is so much history in them, and just to think of how they built them without the big machines that we have now is amazing.

  15. Hvar Town looks magnificent, and perfect for a day trip. I too prefer staying in quieter places away from it all so, even if Amfora hotel does look stunning, I'm not a fan of crowds, clubbing and nightlife either. But as I said, the town itself looks certainly worthy of a day trip and exploration. The monastery ruins and St. Mark's church are quite intriguing. Thank you so much for taking me along! xxx
