Greetings my dear readers and/or fellow bloggers! Happy 1st of August!
Today I'm going to publish this post from my cellphone because I cannot connect my laptop to Internet for some reason.
As regular readers of my blog know, fashion illustrating is not only something I do, it's something I have always done.
I loved doing it when I was little, playing with paper dolls and all. I never really grew out of it, I just found more ways to do it. Over the years, I have gotten quite creative with fashion illustration, working with and exploring different media.
The fashion sketch I'm sharing today is fairly simple. It's a quick illustration of a white cherry A-line dress I had for ages.
I have recently worn this dress to a visit to Split city. I paired it with a black and white hat , a mini beige bag, a random tote bag and a pair of tropical print sandals.
12 MORE WAYS TO WEAR A CHERRY PRINT DRESS
This Grace Karin white cherry print was sent to me in a collab back in 2019. As you can see, I have been worn it a lot so far.
I placed the illustration on the wall of my current work place in Seget (near Trogir) just because I couldn't figure out where else to put it.
I added a bouquet of flowers for no reason. I wasn't actually holding flowers in the reference photograph I used.
Below you can see the pencil sketch. I did the pencil sketch first and then I used some markers and coloured pencils to fill in the illustration.
Another illustration of my outfit here:
Would you like to see how I illustrated and wore this teddy bear/ faux fur coat before?
There is another regular feature on my blog where I post fashion illustrations called: Friday Fashion Illustration! My last post in this category was published at the end of February:
If you search my blog, you'll find hundreds if not thousands original fashion illustrations.
Now, here comes the reference photograph taken by my lovely colleague on our day off.
Isn't Split city beautiful?
I felt quite comfortable in this summer styling!
My friend showed me the best place to get desserts in Split city!
My dessert was amazing and so was hers.
How fabulous that we were both free on the same day, so we visited my home city together!
I had such a great time!

I only get one free day per week, so it's wonderful when I can make most od it.
To be honest, sometimes I'm too tired to do anything on my free day. I was actually sick on a couple of my free days this Summer. I think it's just exhaustion.
However, this particular day off was wonderful. It was an active day, but in a good way. So, I managed to feel fully rested the next day.
A lovely day off can make such a difference!
I had lunch with my parents, explored my home town with a colleague and had a drink with my brother and sister-in-law in the evening.
We started our morning with my visit to health insurance.
I paid additional health insurance.
I forgot to do so when starting to work in Croatia again.
As you might remember, I was in a hospital.
Well, the hospital bill was much higher than I expected- it was a quarter of my salary.
I thought I might pay some small fee, but the hospital pay fee proved to be very high.
So, on my free day I made a stop to health insurance.
On the upper side, we took some lovely photographs there.
In these images, you can see my lovely home city in the background.
THE NEW PART OF TOWN, THE SO CALLED ' WEST COAST OR NEW COAST- ( ZAPADNA/ NOVA OBALA) WHERE YOU WILL FIND THE YACTS BECAUSE IT IS A NEWLY BUILT MARINE
THE WEST COAST - ZAPADNA OBALA
This is what Split site says about the West coast:
" The West Coast is a kind of a seaside continuation of the Riva, a promenade stretching 623 meters in length. Paved entirely with white stone from BraÄ, hosting luxurious yachts tied to its coastline and with cafes and restaurants along its entire length, it represents the new popular meeting point for the Split’s citizens and guests.
The West Coast is not only a place where with your coffee you can enjoy in the most spectacular view of Split, there you can also find out who are the Split’s athlete’s who have won an Olympic medal and as such promoted its city all around the world. Along the promenade, right by the sea, bronze plates with the names, the year of the Olympic games, the city the Olympics were held in, the medal that was won and the image of the sport, are imbedded into the white stone. They are lined up chronologically starting with the first Olympic medal."
MATEJUÅ KA PORT IS FOLLOWED BY NEWLY BUILT LUXURIOUS MARINE WHERE YOU CAN HAVE DRINKS IN LOVELY BARS OR JUST CHILL AT ONE OF THE BENCHES
MatejuŔka has been a small port for local fishermen for centuries. Besides being an authentic location, MatejuŔka also offers a nice view of Split city itself. I would definitely recommend visiting it. Why stop there, though? If you continue your stroll and pass by MatejuŔka, you can also walk in and see the newer port: a luxurious modern marine and the so called 'new coast' or 'west coast' (nova obala/zapadna obala) where you can enjoy drinks at trendy bars with views of yachts and Split city panorama.

Besides in this regular feature, Split city has appeared in my other art posts as well. Have a look and follow the links below to see how Split inspired my art.
Back in Spring 2021, I took advantage of wonderful sunny weather to do some en plein air sketching in Split city, Croatia. The weather was so warm that it felt like summer. The beach I sketched is called Firule and what you can se in the distance is island Äiovo. I drew this seascape with watercolour pencils, What made me choose this spot to sketch were the colours. I was fascinated by the colour of the sea and the rocks. Moreover, I really like the background. I do enjoy working outdoors and it is fortunate to live in a warm climate so one can sketch outdoor without risking a cold. I don't have any major issues with people looking at me while I sketch or paint. I'm mostly so concentrated that I don't even notice it. It was definitely nice to be out and about in Split city again.
I completed this watercolour pencil sketch the same day I started it. There was also a version I made with oil pastels. In case anyone is wondering, I don't have these two with me anymore. I shipped some of my art to one (amateur) art gallery. The watercolour landscape I'm sharing with you today was among the paintings sent while the pastel version of this scene was sent to a friend. Both of them were sketched on a lovely sunny day on Firule beach in Split.
Why do location and fashion illustrating often go hand in hand? I found myself asking that question today. I love exploring all aspects of fashion illustration, because well it's something I'm passionate about, and I've pretty much always been into it. Seriously, my elementary schoolbooks are filled with fashion illustrations. Anyhow, as of late, I find myself wanting to make fashion illustrations that will be as much about the location as about the outfit.

Split really has some really great historical sites and in that sense it is very Mediterranean. Indeed, what is fantastic about the Mediterranean area is that you can often not only see the past with your own eyes, you can touch and smell it as well. If that's not potentially educational, I don't know what is.
MORE POSTS ABOUT SPLIT CITY
In this 2024 summer post, you can take an evening stroll through Split with me!
In this 2024 summer post, you'll find photographs of beach Žnjan, a summer outfit and my meditations about painting the sea. Below there are more links to explore from posts shot in Split city.

Between lunch and drinks in Trogir, we wondered through Žnjan beaches.
Finally, I can show you some images from there.
We had a lot of fun enjoying the scenery.
We also did some people watching!
It was windy and I loved it.
Sea breeze is better than any air conditioning!
I'm happy I finally got to see the new Žnjan beach complex!
It looks really nice, I have to say. What do you guys think?
Thank you for visiting and take care.
You look very cool and pretty in your dress and the illustration is wonderful! I hope you manage to get a proper break soon, all that work isn't good for you. xxx

I really like the cherry pattern, I think it's so cute! I hope you really rest on your day off and that you can recover from the fatigue of work. ReplyDeleteLove it! Your adorable dress, your charming smile, and your wonderful illustrations!
ReplyDeleteThanks Nadine!
DeleteI adore cherry motifs because I think they're so playful and whimsical so I think your dress is just darling and perfect for summer adventures. Your illustration has captured the fun spirit so well too. Since most of us tend to work more than we have time off, it's always important that we make the most out of days off and it's great that you had such a lovely day. That can go a long way to re-energizing us.
ReplyDeleteI'm really sorry that you were ill and you had such a high hospital bill to pay- I hope you are not overworking yourself- I can't imagine having to do 6 days a week- it's a lot.
ReplyDeleteYour fashion illustration of the cherry dress was really pretty- you have the flow of the dress really nicely and you look so pretty in the dress. Your colleague also took some great pictures. Your dessert looks tasty- I am glad that you and your colleague managed to take the time together.
"Sea breeze is better than any air conditioning!"-I totally agree!!!!xx
