FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: LBD AND VINTAGE VIBES

Time for another fashion illustration post. This time I'm sharing a mixed print illustration based on one of my recently worn outfits. I finally bought some art supplies: two sketching blocks. As you may remember, I relied mostly on digital art in the past few months. I hardly ever left the island and there aren't that many art supply shops here. However, recently I had to go to Split for medical check ups and picked up the above mentioned blocks. If art is you hobby, it is a good idea to have a sketching block at hand because we're all pressed for time and you have to catch sketching opportunities when you can. Anyhow, I sketched this look with a ballpoint pen during my catamaran ride and I coloured it with watercolour pencils later on. I used Staedtler  Noris aquarell 144 10  watercolour pencils (not sponsored). I've had these watercolour pencils for about a year now and I'm quite happy with them. You can see the first fashion illustration I made with them here

THE MAKING OF A FASHION ILLUSTRATION- MIXED MEDIA ART
I made a little collage in an effort to show you the making of this mixed media fashion illustration. I drew this illustration in an elongated style, something often used in fashion illustration. It is basically an illustration style where body dimensions are ten or more times the size of a head, instead of normal eight times.  So, if you want to draw a realistic fashion illustration that is anatomically correct, you should use eight heads as a measure. If you're going for an elongated style, then it is more than eight. Personally, I don't have a preference, I draw in all kinds of styles. Those of you that follow my blog know I've tried all sorts of style when it comes to fashion illustration.  I have all artistic freedom that I want since I'm doing it primarily for myself. Back to the subject of this particular fashion illustration. As you can see, I first sketch it with a ballpoint pen and then I coloured it with watercolour pencils. Finally, I applied water and finished the fashion illustration. I added so much watercolours that you can hardly see the ballpoint sketch, not my initial intention but I was happy to be working with watercolour pencils again so I let myself draw and paint freely. That would be the story of this fashion illustration.

THE STORY OF MY OUTFIT & HOW I WORE IT BEFORE
This was such a fun and comfortable outfit to wear. I've been wearing all of these items pretty often since the summer started and I think they look just lovely paired together. No wonder I felt like illustrating this look. Now, I'm going link up these clothing items for more inspiration.
THE PETER PAN PUFFED SLEEVED STRIPED SHIRT- This is honestly one of my most treasured items. It has the most flattering cut ever and makes my waist so defined. Anyhow, I finally research the label (the brand is Yessica, C&A) and confirmed it was a vintage piece. From what I found online, the label's logo design suggests the eighties. That would have been my guess as well, but I tend to be lazy when it comes to actual research.  Most vintage items I own are inherited so I typically just ask about their history. I blogged about 8 ways to wear this puffed sleeve shirt so check that out.
THE BLACK A-LINE DRESS-  This dress was gifted to me. You can see how I wore it here , here , here here and here.
THE VINTAGE MINI BAG- A friend of mine bought me this dress in a vintage shop in Zagreb and I can never get tired of it. See how I styled it before here and here
THE STARTAS SNEAKERS- This iconic Croatian brand makes amazing sneakers. I often wear them with sneakers. In this post alone, you can see eight ways to style Startas sneakers with dresses.

  11. Hi Ivana, how's the weekend so far? Hope you're enjoying it!

As usual seeing these posts where you mix photography + fashion at the same time is refreshing and inspiring. I totally agree that a LBD is the perfect piece to have in a wardrobe and there is no necessity to look classic and boring, actually we can take it as a blank canvas to create many things from zero and add tone of combinations.

Actually I like your interpretation, with a bit of fairy tale inspo adding these shirt, that is classical but has a special detail in the collar, very you and very artistic!

    1. Thank you. LBD is a great classic piece, I love how you called it a black canvas for us to work on- or rather a black canvas. Lately I've been really inspired by paintings with a darker background.

  16. I'm loving the silhouette of this outfit, Ivana, the striped blouse worn over the black A-line dress is delightful. No wonder that you used it as the inspiration for one of your fashion illustrations. I love how you're using mixed media but starting from a ballpoint sketch. Learning about the proportions used in fashion illustration was interesting! Wishing you a lovely week ahead, Ivana! xxx

  19. I love how you mix and match items that are vintage. The striped shirt is beautiful and the shape of the dress also! It has a great length too. I like how you combined it together with the knptted shirt. The illustrations are very nice and I like your media art with it! Have a lovely week,
    xx Maren

  20. Lovely illustration! I enjoy the look of the extra-elongated fashion illustrations - they convey so much in just a few pencil strokes. This is a very bold illustration, and I think it works particularly well due to the outfit being very well-balanced. The visually heavy swath of black is balanced by the oversized collar (I'd place that blouse as late 80s, BTW, I remember those!) of the blouse and its eye-catching white accents, which are bookended by the shoes. Those are fantastic runners/sneakers, Ivana. I have never heard of that brand!

Hope you have a good week, my dear.
