Bajadera (fashion illustration of the day/ modna ilustracija dana)
Hello dear readers! In this post, I'll show you how to get creative with fashion illustration by decorating it with scraps you can find at your home, such as golden fold from candy or chocolate wraps. The fashion illustration that I'm sharing today was inspired was a runaway look. I can't, for the life of me, remember the runaway look that was the inspiration behind this fashion illustration of mine. I admit, I forgot it.
Often I draw from imagination (i.e just use my head to get ideas), but I'm pretty sure this one was inspired by a particular runaway gown, I just can't remember what that look was. If I manage to remember it, I will let you know. The medium is watercolour (and pencil) on paper. I made it on the same day I made most of the illustrations I've been posting lately, for example those shown in this post or this one. My energy levels must have been pretty decent that day.
Later on, I did play a bit with this illustration and experimented with collage, as you will see if you scroll down. For the collage I used wraps from one very popular Croatian candy called Bajadera (here you can read more about the legendary Bajadera- the making of the brand). It is always good to recycle, right?
* This post has been updated. Some of the photographs in the original post were a bit dark, so I brightened them a bit. Now, scroll down to see and read more!
Croatia has a wickedly delicious chocolate industry and let me tell you, sometimes the temptation to indulge in all those amazing chocolate brands is nearly impossible to fight. There are a lot of Croatian traditional candies and sweets that I absolutely adore, but for health reasons, I try to stay away from them. It is not a good idea to eat a lot of sweets and sugar if you have an immune/incurable/ chronic disease like I do.
USING CHOLOCATE WRAPPERS TO GET CREATIVE WITH FASHION ILLUSTRATION!
See how I used this pieces of golden foil to create another dress and design on the top of the fashion illustration I made.
Year 2017 is slowly coming to its end. It means a lot of us will be putting ourselves into a meditative mood. What did I learn this year? - It will surely be the question many of us will ask ourselves. And why not? It is good to take a moment and revaluate our choices. A bit soul-searching never killed anyone.
Hopefully, I did learn a thing or two from 2017. The first thing that comes to my mind as a lesson learned is, ironically, that I should use my mind a bit more often.
Be more rational perhaps. Work on your critical thinking skills.
That it doesn’t matter how smart you are if you are stupid enough to let your heart decide everything.
Not that we shouldn’t sometimes listen to our hearts.
But we shouldn’t listen to them all the time.
There is a pace and time for everything!
In matters of the heart, the head gets no saying. Perhaps in the matters of the mind, the heart shouldn’t get a saying either?
There are situations when it is best to think with a cold head. There are times when we must let our mind do its job. We have brains for a reason. True, often they can get in the way. True, sometimes we must rely on our gut feeling.
Logic is not an answer to everything. As our beloved Spock used to say: Logic is the beginning, not the end, of wisdom. I guess what I’m trying to say is that maybe, just maybe, it is all about finding balance.

Let's TALK illustration.
Sometimes I illustrate items that I actually wear.
Sometimes I illustrate my own outfits.
Sometimes I illustrate other bloggers.

10 WAYS TO IMPROVE YOUR FASHION ILLUSTRATION SKILLS-I'm not a fashion illustrator, but I am a person who has managed to improve one's fashion drawing skills, so I feel I can contribute something to this subject. In this post, I shared with you how I did it.
Learning more about fashion drawing is something I did for my own personal satisfaction, but I can't deny there were some other benefits. For example, I gifted a lot of my drawings and made some people happy in the process. I didn't know so many people like fashion illustration so much. A handmade fashion drawing is actually a great gift idea.
I even sold some of my fashion drawings, and getting better at fashion illustrations also provided me for additional content for my fashion blog, so that's been fabulous. It's been a rewarding experience on many levels. If you want to find out more, scroll down and read tips for improving one's fashion drawing skills! Everyone knows that flowers make for a great prop, something very useful in these visual days. Moreover, in this time of social media, we are all looking for good photography props, aren't we? Bloggers, influences and what not, everyone wants to make their photographs pop. Flowers are a great way to do just that. Dried flowers are even better, because you don't have to worry about their expiry date. Dried flowers are also a great way to recycle (when you make your own) and preserve memories. I've been drying flowers for quite some time and there is really nothing to it. You can also buy dried flowers (or even fresh ones if you prefer). They are simply a perfect addition to flat lay photography.
Today I'll speak about creating 3D dresses on fashion illustrations. Now, you don't have to know how to do fashion illustration to try your hand at this. You can trace some of the fashion templates available online (be sure to make sure the author is o.k with that) or you can print them out. You can also print out some fashion illustration (again make sure the artists don't mind). Alternatively, you can also cut out a photograph from a fashion magazine and have fun with it. The point is that you try to create a 3D dress using dried or fresh flowers. This can be a fun DIY project. You can use it to make a card for someone. I'm not sure who first came up with the idea of mixing fashion illustration with flowers, but it's certainly a great idea. So, what do you really need? Visit my original post for a full tutorial on using dry flowers for fashion illustrations!

Ti auguro un meraviglioso anno nuovo, tesoro!
Baci!

ReplyDeleteAs for the heart mind issue I know what you mean. I always make this mistake, since my heart is much more stronger than my mind, I am so weak when it comes to realing on your brain and trying to think cold blooded, especially when it comes to men :D Otherwise I'm good :D
