A WATERCOLOUR SKETCH PORTRAIT (INSPIRED BY 如懿传 AND 周迅 )

Hello! Today I'll share a watercolour sketch inspired by Chinese actress Zhou Xun's potrayal of Ruyi in a historical drama Ruyi's Royal Love in the Palace. I'm more of a book than a film or TV series girl, but sometimes I get inspired by some films and shows. I actually haven't seen this historical show, just excerpts from it. I accidently stumbled on a few excerpt from this show on YouTube and felt inspired by both the costumes and Zhou Xun's acting. I doubt I'll have the time to watch the whole series, but I might create more art inspired by it. The medium for this portrait sketch is Staetdler watercolour pencils on mixed media paper (from my new art create sketchbook). As you will see in this post, the sketch was made on a small frame paper. I might redo this sketch on a larger scale paper to capture more details and make it more realistic. That is if I find the time. I think this one isn't bad for a quick watercolour pencils sketch. You know, I'd love to read the book this show is based on. It sounds fascinating, I might look it up.     Oh so elegant! Lovely work! I have been reading the Lost Tomb series (a Chinese series from Xiu Kennedy) on my Kindle which has finally been translated. So you might find the book. It's great to read the book because there were so many questions I had about Lost Tomb. Still I am glad I watched Tomb in the Sea before I watched Mystic Nine. It has helped put pieces of the puzzle together.

    I am so glad you have been inspired. Looks like you are making great strides in your techniques. Thank you for sharing them with us!

      Very interesting. It is great there is a translation for the Lost Tomb series, I might download it too. I have a kindle reader installed on my laptop.

    Hello Ivana,

    Your art is always impressive and it made me remember the time I used to paint with watercolors.... now I'm trying to go back to basics with some tools but I definitely need to go back to watercolors, what I remember is that they were kinda tricky to use so your result is definitely impressive!

    I adore the way you mixed the colors and the final result is elegant and vibrant. I can find a lot of inspiration and resources in films, so I'm sure you too!

Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! How are you today? I'm back with another Ursula K. Le Guin book review. In this post, I'll review " Forgiveness Day" , a science fiction novella that is a part of the Hainish Circle. Published in 1995, "Forgiveness Day " won multiple awards. This novella is often published together with her other novellas from the Hainish Circle, and it can be find in various editions of Four Ways to Forgiveness and Five Ways to Forgiveness.   Thematically, this novella is a part of five stories featuring two Hainish planets, but it can definitely be read on its own. I think it functions well as a stand alone novella. I listened to it in audio form, and I didn't have any problems following the story.  The world building is simple and effective.  Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! It's almost ten. I've had a long week and I'm quite tired and sleepy. However, I'll try to wrap this post up for you tonight. What kind of post? I've been reading Maugham's The Complete Short Stories for some time now. I've been taking my time with this collection, but I enjoyed it a lot.
