VISIT ZAVALA ON ISLAND HVAR/ POSJETITE ZAVALU NA OTOKU HVARU

Zavala was love at first sight. I can still see its beautiful beaches and crystal clear sea when I close my eyes. Such a serene place to be! I visited Zavala about two months ago (in April) when we finally managed to find some time for a short visit. I have never visited prior to that day, despite having roots on the island. However, since I'm currently living on island Hvar, I really have no excuse to miss out on exploring Zavala.

Zavala je bila ljubav na prvi pogled. Još uvijek mogu vidjeti njene prekrasne plaže i kristalno more kada zatvorim oči. Tako mirno mjesto! Prije otprilike dva mjeseca (u travnju) konačno smo ulovili trenutak za otići nakratko u Zavalu. Nisam nikad prije tamo bila, iako imam korijene na otoku Hvaru. S obzirom da trenutno živim na otoku Hvaru, odlučila sam iskoristiti priliku da ju konačno posjetim, a sada pogotovo nemam izliku da ju ne istražim. 

You can get to Zavala from Jelsa in no time. The road is a bit challenging and narrow at times (often the case on the island) and the tunnel is a bit dark  but once you get out of the tunnel, you will be rewarded with a beautiful view.  I'm not sure why, but I imagined Zavala as a small bay with one beach, so I was surprised to find that it consists of several bays and beaches. There are quite a few  houses there, definitely more than I imagined. Zavala impressed me me at first sight and I definitely plan to get back there as soon as possible. I don't know why, but I somehow imagined Zavala as a small bay. When we came out of the tunnel I was surprised to see that it was more of a small village than just a bay. There are supermarkets and restaurants.  There are several beautiful beaches in Zavala and the sea is amazing. Located partly on the slopes, Zavala offers beautiful views. The islet of Šćedro stands out, you can get a good view of it from Zavala itself. I imagine there are boat rides available in the summer. In short, Zavala is absolutely charming. A handful of houses are located right by the sea, some practically on the beach. The bay is surrounded by vineyards, pine forests, various greenery and olive trees. Truly a beautiful place, perfect for hiking, relaxing and meditating.

Do Zavale se iz Jesle dođe vrlo brzo, čim izađete iz tunela (koji je istina mračan a i cesta nije sjajna), biti ćete nagrađeni predivnim pogledom, a uskoro možete vidjeti i početak mjesta. Zavala me oduševila na prvi pogled i svakako se tamo planiram vratiti što prije to bolje. Ne znam zašto, ali ja sam Zavalu nekako zamišljala kao jednu malu uvalu. Kada smo izašli uz tunela iznenadilo me vidjeti da je to pravo mjesto. Malo mjesto, ali mjesto. Zavala se zapravo sastoji od nekoliko uvala. Ima tu nekoliko prelijepih plaža. Smještena jednim djelom na padinama, Zavala nudi prekrasne poglede. Posebno se ističe otočić Šćedro koji se odlično vidi iz same Zavale. Pregršt kuća nalazi se neposredno uz more, takođeći na plaži. Zavala je okružena vinogradima, borovom šumom, raznim zelenilom i maslicinima. Doista prekrasno mjesto, ta šetnju, odmor i inspiraciju. Zavala ima nekoliko prekrasnih plaža tako da je odlična ljetna destinacija za kupanje i ostale ljetne radosti. Ako razmišljate koja mala mjesta i plaže u Hrvatskoj posjetiti ovo ljeto, Zavala je mjesto za vas. 

MY OUTFIT- ALL ABOUT SPRING LAYERING

My outfit was all about spring layering. I took with me this beautiful illustrated scarf that was gifted to me by Ely. I wore a floral dress  (also  here and here.) over jeans and layered with an olive green vest.  As for footwear, I wore a pair of beige driving loafers. As the weather got warmer and the sun got stronger, I lost the layers. As you can see, I eventually took my loafers off and walked in the sea. This was all back in April. If you're visiting now, bear in mind that temperatures are much higher and that swimming is not only possible but recommended;). 

MOJA ODJEVNA KOMBINACIJA- PROLJETNO SLOJEVITO ODJEVANJE

Poveznice za odjevne predmete i primjere kako sam iz nosila prije su u engleskom dijelu teksta. Odjevna kombinacija je bila prikladnije za travanj, ako posjećujete Zavalu danas, naravno da ćete se manje toplo obući jer je ljeto u smislu temperature već stiglo.

Many places, villages and towns on island Hvar have signs of the cross placed at various posts. On island Hvar, there are quite a few stone crosses.  I would say that religious statues and art are quite popular with the Croats in general. Historical chapels and churches are a frequent site. Zavala is no exception. You can also find a small cemetery in Zavala. I sometimes visit cemeteries because I like  to study the history of a place.  Sometimes you can see interesting historical statues and works of art when you visited cemeteries.

Na mnogim mjestima, selima i mjestima na otoku Hvaru nalaze se znakovi križa postavljeni na raznim mjestima. Na otoku Hvaru nalazi se dosta kamenih križeva. Rekao bih da su vjerski kipovi i umjetnost prilično popularni kod Hrvata općenito. Povijesne kapele i crkve su čest prizor u Dalmaciji. Zavala nije iznimka. U Zavali možete pronaći i malo groblje. Ponekad posjetim groblja jer volim proučavati povijest nekog mjesta. Ponekad možete vidjeti zanimljive povijesne statue i umjetnička djela na grobljima.

Being able to explore island Hvar is such a blessing. As I already wrote on my blog: " I have lived in many different places (even countries) in my life. Island Hvar is one of those places where I've lived spent a considerable amounts of time over the years." Even before I temporary moved here at the end of 2019, I was a frequent visitor to this island. I have family living on the island, so my visits weren't limited to touristic ones.  Naturally, this opportunity to live and work on island Hvar allowed me to familiarize myself with the island  and learn even more about it. I greatly enjoy getting to visit new places here on the island." Zavala was one of such discoveries and I'm happy to share it with you. Tell me,  isn't this place really something?
