FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: ROME (A FAUX LEATHER COAT)

Today  I'm back with a new fashion illustration but with one that's depicting an old outfit. Yes, we're travelling back in time. I'm sharing a fashion illustration inspired by my visit to Rome city back in 2013 (so almost a decade ago). I very much enjoyed my visit to the eternal city but more about that some other time. Who knows, maybe I'll get a chance to revisit it again? Anyhow, let's talk about this outfit a bit. There is a lot of talk about sustainable fashion these days. One of the best ways to be sustainable is to shop our own closets. That's what I always try to do. I'm devoted to maximizing my closet. Moreover, I genuinely love creating stories with clothing items. The best way to do that is to keep those clothing items, at least for a time.

Now, I don't have all the items I have illustrated anymore but I have most of them. Plus, I assure you I got plenty of wear from those that are no longer with me. I used to wear them all the time while I still had them. Anyhow, I still have this denim skirt, the faux leather coat, the white faux leather jacket and  the striped cardigan. Wow,  I really layered well for that March day 9 years ago.

As for  the orange t-shirt I was wearing (with a cartoon character),  well that one was claimed by my nephew. Not that you can make it out in the photographs (you can in this post, though) but on the shirt there's a print of a Smurfs character from a comic franchise by Belgian artist Pierre Culliford 'Peyo'. My nephew was as much a fan of Smurfs show as I was. Time really flies. He'll outgrow me one of these days and he was a toddler when this blog was started. Do you see what I mean? It's all about the stories.

I've bought this pair of shoes on a warm and sunny Christmas Eve in Split city. It was so warm I had to take my coat off (here). They were the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned and I was looking for a worthy replacement ever since. Do you know those very cool faux fur leg warmers I have? Well, they have come with this set. While I no longer have the heels, I still have the leg warmers.

MEDIUM: WATERCOLOUR PENCILS ON PAPER
I have actually made this illustration last February and I was planning on sharing it in March on the same date as the photographs indicate but I got busy so it's a bit late. However, since it's actually raining at the moment, the outfit is perfectly appropriate even if technically speaking it's the first of April today, it's not very warm start of Spring.

THE MAKING OF A FASHION ILLUSTRATION
As usual I have prepared a few collages to show you the illustrating process.  For those of you who want to know more about the process, you'll be able to see how I used watercolour colours, how I sketched and so on. Not that it is a work of art. I have certainly made better fashion illustrations. . It was a quick job, I didn't really put in much time and energy into it. There's not much else to say about this fashion sketch really. Below you can see the photograph I have chosen for my reference.

I don't remember have I illustrated this particular denim skirt before, but I illustrated a similar one and multiple times. I have also illustrated the white faux leather jacket before, but I reimagined it as a brown one. A bit like this brown faux leather coat now that I think of it.

  8. I loved seeing your Rome photos and very much hope that you'll return one day. I've only been to Trieste and Venice, I need to explore more of Italy. I really fancy Sicilly (and the sexy Inspector Montelbano).
That coat is fantastic and still looks as stylish and current as it did a decade ago. You've captured the texture and rich tones wonderfully. All your photos are lovely but you look absolutely beautiful in the picture with the daffodils, pink lipstick and statement earrings! xxx

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
