TRAVEL WITH MY ART #32: ZAVALA (CROATIA)/CHOOSING A NEW YEAR OUTFIT

 Today I'll share a new seascape painting with you. One more post in the 'Travel With My Art' category. This painting was inspired by Zavala on island Hvar (Croatia). It is not nearly as elaborative or challenging as the last piece I shared. The last canvas painting I shared was quite big, measuring 80 cm X 80 cm. This one, on the other hand, is a A4 sized painting. The medium  is acrylic paints on mixed media paper. I think it'll look quite cute framed. I haven't decided what I will do with it yet. The aim for this painting was to capture the beauty of the Adriatic sea. I wasn't trying to go for a detailed or hyper-realistic feel. This is more an impressionist piece than a realistic one. I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out. It is a motif I always come back to: the sea!

 I think I took these photographs of me holding the painting back in Summer. I'm wearing a red dress with a floral skirt over it and a pair of boho heels. Time really flies, doesn't it? Have you decided what to  wear for NYE yet? I haven't. I like to dress formally for New Year Eve (even if I'm not going anywhere), so I might reach for some fancy dress from my closet. Recycling your closet is perfectly alright. Why not reach for a dress you already wore, for example your prom dress? Make the use of what you have is my motto. Anyhow, whatever you dress, I hope you will have a nice time. Celebration at home looks quite attractive to me, but we've been invited to celebrate NYE with friends so I might go out. I haven't made up my mind yet. Yesterday my husband went to a wedding celebration on his own so I could get some rest. I might try to join him tonight. Back to the topic of this post. Interestingly, Zavala has been one of the most frequently painted locations in 'Travel With My Art' series. I've featured it five times on this little place to call my own. That's a lot, isn't? I think it's safe to say this place really captured my heart.

SPRING IN SPLIT : 3 OUTFITS, ONE WORN FOR AN ART EXHIBITION

Hello! Spring break is officially over for me. Today was my second day back at work and I'm exhausted. The first day was fun, we've all happy to see one another again and all that, but the second day tired me out. The end of the week is far away, too. It takes time to get used to working from 7 to 5 again.  I divided my Spring break between my favourite three places and two countries:  island Hvar & Split (in Croatia) and Mostar (in Bosnia and Herzegovina). I visited an art exhibition and that was fun, too. The art exhibition was by Croatian illustrator Filip Čulić. The exhibition included his illustrations and comic book art. It's open until the end of April, so if you're in Split, check it out (more information here ). I love Split's city library. They always organize fun stuff. WELCOMING SPRING WITH 15 IDEAS TO COMBAT SPRING FATIGUE!

 Welcome Spring! We welcome thy beauty! We also fear thy evil twin- The Spring Fatigue. Like in a telenovela, one rarely comes without the other. Both are inevitable, so let's just welcome the first and try to manage the other until it perishes (in a slow motion) in a fatal car accident. That's what always happened in the Latin soap operas (i.e telenovelas) that were all the rave when I was a kid (and that are the reason why many Croatian people have a pretty good passive understanding of Spanish without even learning it in school, but I digress).  My point is that the beautiful Spring often comes accompanied with Spring Fatigue that can range from mild tiredness to extreme exhaustion. I mean Spring Fatigue is sometimes impossible to avoid. I googled it as many times as I could, and besides the general advice (sleep, eat and exercise well and so on), I didn't really find too much useful information. Let there be colour! (outfit post) / Neka bude boja (odjevna kombinacija)

It was over 40 degrees Celsius (that's over 100 Fahrenheit) when these photographs were taken. Seriously! I'm obviously a desert type when I'm able to enjoy being out at midday in a city that is practically an oven. If you did not know Mostar city is surrounded by mountains and hills which pretty much turns it into an urban oven. Yes, this city is a champion of unbelievably high temperatures during the Summer. So, this hat was as much a necessity as a fashion statement. Wearing a hat when temperature is over 100 Fahrenheit is a sound idea, believe me. Speaking of Fahrenheits,  have you read  Fahrenheit 451  by Ray Bradbury? You should, you know, it really is a brilliant dystopian novel. I find it uncanny how much some writers were able to guess the future, down to minute details. Painting of the day (A Lioness) / Slika dana (Lavica)

When I woke up this morning, the first thing I did was walk to the kitchen. Naturally, I was there to make coffee (can’t start a day without it) but while I was at it, I decided to also make a nice cup of warm chocolate. I figured that one can’t have too many warm drinks when the weather is misbehaving. Plus, I wanted something to drink right away, and because preparing coffee my style takes a while (wouldn’t be caught dead drinking instant coffee;)) I opted for warm chocolate first and it was nice but I have to remember to make my own instant coffee again, I’m sure that stuff they sell in shops are full of all kinds of unhealthy stuff. Speaking of health, I have had a cold for a week now, my throat is still sore and my vocal cords are in pitiful state.  I'm not a big fan of my voice right now, but most people seem to like it. Nature Park Blidinje hides a gem of great beauty: magical lake Blidinje. Sunny summer days in Mostar city. Simple pleasures in life. The smell of pine trees in the air. (They have a special scent during the Summer. Have you ever noticed that?) Strolling around the city with my significant other.  A cup of coffee enjoyed in good company. Simply daily rituals that can be so meaningful. Admiring street air. If you spent each day on a different Croatian island, it would take you three years to visit them all, as there are more than a 1, 200 islands in Croatia. I visted only one Croatian island this Summer and I'm currently trying to work out in my head how many of them I have visited in my lifetime. Alas, only a handful of them. So many Croatian islands to visit, so little time!   Standing on my grandmother's terrace, I realize the root of my fascination with rocks.
