A WATERCOLOUR ILLUSTRATION OF A HORSE + A HIKING OUTFIT

Hello! Today I'll take you hiking. I will show you an outfit I wore for hiking on Planinica hill (one of the hills overlooking Mostar city). The views from this hills are nothing short of spectacular.  As readers of my blog will know, I used to visit this place pretty often. I plan to visit it more in the following months. If you want to know more about Planinica, you're welcome to visit my own posts (links here and here). While we were hiking, we came across some horses. We didn't take any photographs. It's been a while since our last visit, so I think some of these horses forgot our faces  (or weren't born yet) and anyway I didn't want to disturb them by taking photographs. I actually have a lot of local horse photographs in my blog archives ( here and here).

For this visit, I wore a comfortable spring styling. A jacket was a must because it can get windy there but I also wore a straw hat to protect myself from the sun. My outfit consisted from a burgundy jacket I picked up at Mana, a floral dress I wore more than thirty times, a pair of leggings, no brand sneakers and a no brand white straw hat I picked up in a supermarket.  This proved ideal for our hike. Moreover, today I'll share an illustration of a horse with you. It seems appropriate since I was inspired by local horses I have meet in these mountains (some tamed, some semi-wild or wild) so far.

Now, when it comes to this watercolour illustration, I was also partly inspired by works of Croatian painter from Bosnia and Herzegovina Ivica Vlašić. If you see this old post of mine, you can see some of his works in an exhibition. I didn't really use a painting of his as a reference nor did I paint in the same style, but I was  inspired by his art. What inspired me the most was that I could recognize all the hoses on his paintings (those from this area). He really captured them well! Seeing that I have a lot of my own photographs, I will probably use them as a reference if I try to paint horses in a similar realistic way.

My horse illustration was made with watercolour pencils. I added water halfway through but worked on the grass some more with watercolour pencils. I finally added a bit more water and that was that. I'm pretty happy with the result. This horse illustration didn't take much time. I might do a more elaborated version in the future. I didn't even name it yet, not sure will I. If you have a suggestion for a name, let me know.

This illustration of mine makes me think of Goranci  more than Planinica. Goranci is a village in vicinity. The horse there are not wild, though. I blogged about those hoses many times in the past. Bellow is a collage with some photographs from Goranci and I will also leave you some links bellow.

I don't know how to draw a horse hahaha and I don't think it'll come out looking like a horse. You did a wonderful job to capture the free spirit of the stunning horse :D Wow, that's a lot of horses I just typed there. Sorry, just horsing around LOL :D xoxo

  5. A marvelous excursion, dearest Ivana! You know I love hiking like you. And when there are also animals to see - such as beautiful horses - then I am completely happy. Your hiking outfit looks practical and elegant at the same time, that's probably what the wide-brimmed hat does! :-) I also like your horse illustration very much. Although I like animals, I am not very good at painting them ...

    1. Thank you Traude. It can all be learned with practice. Painting animals is no more difficult than painting anything else. You can always try using some templates.

  11. Hey Ivana, I hope you're having a good start of the week!

I loved this post because you're showing us a different point of view of Mostar City! It is amazing to discover how a place can have artchitecture + story and then a lot of breathtaking landscapes and places to re-connect with the nature :)

We also have our version of Planinica hill, well Barcelona is full of high hills and mountains and it is cool to go, do some hiking and appreciate the city from above! I loved the view from there and the fact that you picked a comfortable but stylish outfit! That flower print is marvelous and also the hat.

Your interpretation of the horse using watercolor pencils is also nice! I was practicing with these pencils last week and it was nice to see how you can get tons of different textures with one material!

Checking the other posts I missed! Stay safe :)!

It always pleases me to see that like me you are dressing up for hikes. And why not? Love your floppy hat, which reminds me to put a couple of Summer hats in the car in readiness for our next hike! xxx
