The Phantom of the Opera...and all that glitter---Fantom u operi i sav taj sjaj...

Phantom in the Opera is a novel I would recommend any day. Now, that also reminds me of the days when Tara and Nightwish were an item (Any comments on that anyone?)...But what that has to do with my post? Well, I've spend the evening in the Opera so there is that but mostly I just wanted an excuse to recommend the book to you. Seriously, if you have loved the film (not to mention the opera), you'll be crazy about the book.

I've a bad cold but it would take a lot more to keep me from the opening night of one of my favourite Croatian operas. Long story short, I always cry at opera. Not a little....Not like I shed a tear in a discrete way or  look all cultured and gentle (like the cool way the pretty women aka Julia Roberts did it), but literally I cry my eyes out...which is weird because I never cry at movies...or plays...It's kind of embarrassing.

On the upper side, I had the change to wear my gold glittery shoes. Remember that DIY project? It's on the blog somewhere. Now, the outfit wasn't planed, I barely managed to get out of bed, so I went with a lot of velvet (because it is warm). It would have looked much better if the blue velvet turtle neck was shorter but I couldn't tuck it in because it would show, the skirt is a size too big so it would look funny. Meine Got, I have to start buying clothes my size, but I like the comfort that the over sized things provide... So what do you think? Too many colours?

POST UPDATE

THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA-  A HISTORICAL NOVEL  THAT HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY ADAPTED FOR BOTH STAGE AND FILM

I've read this novel many years ago, and I enjoyed it a lot. Styled like a mystery novel, it's an engaging read.

MEMORABLE QUOTES FROM THE NOVEL

“Poor, unhappy Erik! Shall we pity him? Shall we curse him? He asked only to be 'some one,' like everybody else. But he was too ugly! And he had to hide his genius or use it to play tricks with, when, with an ordinary face, he would have been one of the most distinguished of mankind! He had a heart that could have held the entire empire of the world; and, in the end, he had to content himself with a cellar. Ah, yes, we must need pity the Opera ghost...”
.....

“Know that it is a corpse who loves you and adores you and will never, never leave you!...Look, I am not laughing now, crying, crying for you, Christine, who have torn off my mask and who therefore can never leave me again!...Oh, mad Christine, who wanted to see me!”
....

“He fills me with horror and I do not hate him. How can I hate him, Raoul? Think of Erik at my feet, in the house on the lake, underground. He accuses himself, he curses himself, he implores my forgiveness!...He confesses his cheat. He loves me! He lays at my feet an immense and tragic love. ... He has carried me off for love!...He has imprisoned me with him, underground, for love!...But he respects me: he crawls, he moans, he weeps!...And, when I stood up, Raoul, and told him that I could only despise him if he did not, then and there, give me my liberty...he offered it...he offered to show me the mysterious road...Only...only he rose too...and I was made to remember that, though he was not an angel, nor a ghost, nor a genius, he remained the voice...for he sang. And I listened ... and stayed!...That night, we did not exchange another word. He sang me to sleep.”

Gaston Leroux, The Phantom of the Opera

Basic info from Wikipedia:

The Phantom of the Opera (FrenchLe Fantôme de l'Opéra) is a novel by the French author Gaston Leroux. It was first serialised in Le Gaulois from 23 September 1909 to 8 January 1910, and was released in volume form in late March 1910 by Pierre Lafitte.[1] The novel is partly inspired by historical events at the Paris Opera during the nineteenth century, and by an apocryphal tale concerning the use of a former ballet pupil's skeleton in Carl Maria von Weber's 1841 production of Der Freischütz.[2] It has been successfully adapted into various stage and film adaptations, most notable of which are the 1925 film depiction featuring Lon Chaney, and Andrew Lloyd Webber's 1986 musical.

  6. Obožavam Nikola Šubića Zrinskog i operu općenito, to mi je najdraža kazališna vrsta :)) Fantoma sam i čitala, i gledala film i još kad bi ga mogla negdje vidjeti na daskama to bi bilo savršeno, luda sam za tom pričom :)

Baci

  28. Hello Ivana,

unfortunately i never went to an opera. But if i do, i could image to wear your fashion style as well.

I dont think that you wear to many colours. All colours looking almost equal, it´s ok.

My only point of criticism is: your tights. I think they are "too much" for opera. I would wear one coloured tights, maybe black.

    Bye.

    1. I think you might be right..the tights were a bit too much because there were so many other colour and patterns in this look.

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
