TRAVEL WITH MY ART #15: BAY LOZNA, ISLAND HVAR

Hello readers and fellow bloggers! How are you doing? I'm back with another Travel With My Art post. One again, it is a seascape inspired by island Hvar. The medium is acrylic paints on mixed media paper (brand Royal Talens.) As always, I includes a reference photograph (I took myself) and some wip photographs. 

I'm still in Croatia and it  will probably take me another day or two to answer to your comments as Internet connection is still a problem. I'm typing this on my cellphone so I will keep this post short.  I'm alright, but quite tired. My health has taken a turn for the worse lately. I probably worked a bit too hard on my vacation. I hope it is nothing that some rest can't cure.

THE MAKING OF AN ACRYLIC PAINTING- LOZNA BAY ON ISLAND HVAR

Work in progress photos - I worked on this painting for about two days. The main thing for me was to get the pebbles and the sea right. As you can see on my reference photograph, the sea in this  bay is crystal clear. I wanted to capture that in my painting.

    P.S. Thank you so much for visiting and reading my blog and much much more. This weekend we had a major storm hit us. It was like a hurricane catagory 2 and we are far from any ocean since we are in the Heartland of America. Lots of power outages, trees on streets and on houses. Of course, I slept through the whole storm.

    Your painting is amazing - I hope you don't get tired of hearing that! I love the movement of the water, and how your technique is starting to take over with the rocks on the shorelines now! Brava!

    Hello dear Ivana, first of all I am happy to see you back but on the other side I am sad to here that your health is not the best right now :( I really hope you can get some rest soon and that you can feel better in the upcoming weeks!

    Despite that the art portrayed in this blog post inspired by Lozna Island is amazing. Specially the pebbles and obviously the texture of the water, you can really feel that the water is there, transparent and ready for a summer swing :)

Hello, there! In this post, I'll show you around Stobreč, a charming historical village that has become a tourist resort. Located between Split city and Podstrana , this little village is a wonderful destination for a stroll or a day at the beach. It's actually been inhabited since the ancient times.  Hello! In this post, I'll share a sustainable baby blue and leopard spring styling. A pale blue might not be the first choice with leopard, but why not? For me leopard print is sort of a classic. I actually love to pair it with all kinds of colours, from more vibrant ones to pales ones. In the past, I paired it with cobalt blue . I definitely do not feel that leopard should be worn only with neutral colours. I mean I paired leopard with white, grey and black clothing items often enough, but I love to pair it with something that pops, be it a coloured or pattern item. I do love patterns. OIL PASTELS VS. WATERCOLOUR PENCILS (SPLIT, FIRULE BEACH)

If you remember in my last posts I shared a seascape sketch with you. Today I will show you the completed version. I did complete this watercolour pencil sketch the same day I started it. There was also a version I made with oil pastels. In case anyone is wondering, I don't have these two with me anymore. I shipped some of my art to one (amateur) art gallery yesterday. The watercolour landscape I'm sharing with you today was among the paintings sent while the pastel version of this scene was sent to a friend.  Both of them were sketched on a lovely sunny day on Firule beach in Split (it has gotten colder in the meantime). THE ISLAND OF THE MISSING TREES BY ELIF SHAFAK (BOOK REVIEW AND RECOMMENDATION)

Today I shall review The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak. I was actually gifted this book. What a wonderful present it proved to be! Published in 2021, this postmodern  novel  follows two  story lines and uses framed narration.  The Island of Missing Trees  tells the life story of a Greek Turkish couple and their adolescent daughter.  This novel examines and explores a number of topics such as identity, migration, immigrant life, war trauma, memory, love and family. It's an ambitious novel that examines serious topics with due respect and sensitivity . I read it months ago, but I remember it vividly. Honestly, I cried a lot while reading this novel. It really moved me greatly. In fact, that is probably why it took me this long to finish this book review. I needed to emotionally process the story.   The Island of Missing Trees is   set in London and Cyprus. Have I saved the best for last? I'll let you be the judge of that. This is my third and last post  (links for the  first one and the  second one ) from Peć Mlini and today I'll show you the spring of the river Tihaljina. This freshwater spring is absolutely beautiful. I was even fortunate enough to see a freshwater crab there, but unfortunately I don't know its scientific name. In vain I researched the internet, the name of this freshwater crab will remain a mystery to me. Nevertheless, it is another indication of how pure this water really is. Perfect place for a swim, my friends assured me! Do you remember my posts about Trebižad river?  Anyhow, according to wikipedia, because of the fact that Trebižad river disappears and reappears many times, people have developed a total of nine names for it.In the past they didn't know it is one and the same river. Sights to see, places to visit / Znamenitosti za vidjeti, mjesta za posjetiti -----Goranci

My Sights to see, places to visit feature would surely be missing something if I didn't include this little village Goranci in the list of places to visit. This charming little village is situated in the vicinity of Mostar.  I love to go there to espace the city heat.  If you are into cycling, you'd be happy to hear that you can rent a bike for free. You just need to leave your ID in the restaurant Goranci and you can take the bike. There is a wonderful cycling and pedestrian walk so be sure to check it out. As of recently, there is also a beautiful park at your disposal. This park is growing daily as new things are added to it(toys for kids and that sorts of stuff). If you look closely, you'll be able to see that some decorative trees are still being planted at the enterance to this park.  You can read some of my previous posts about this village here , here and here .
