REVISITING THE MAGNIFICENT HVAR TOWN IN AUTUMN

EN Today I'm taking you to one of the most beautiful European towns- Hvar. Located on a gorgeous island Hvar, this town has a lot to offer in terms of culture, gastronomy and history. I already visited this gorgeous city earlier this Autumn, so this is actually my second visit. So, if you would like to know more about it, please read my POST ABOUT HVAR TOWN HERE, there you will find all the links with my previous posts about the history of this town as well as the places you can see and visit.

BE A TOURIST IN YOUR OWN TOWN - THE BENEFITS OF LOCAL TOURISM
While we were taking these photographs, I could hear people talking about us and assuming we were tourists. At the time when these photos were taken (and not a long time ago, less than a month), I was still living on island Hvar, but I behaved very much as a tourist. Hopefully, not as the tacky kind of tourist and  more like the kind I aspire to be- the sustainable and cultured sort.  I wrote about benefits of local tourism many times of my blog. It is wonderful to be educated about the area you live in. It makes perfect sense to me to want to learn more about the places we happen to live or stay in. As readers of my blog will know, I'm not a fan of mass tourism. I prefer a more cultural version of tourism, that is why I often visit 'famous /popular/well know' towns and locations off season so that I can enjoy in historical sight -seeing in peace, without the crowds of tourists. I sometimes wonder whether I'm not doing myself a disservice by putting my 'travels' online and enabling everyone to access the 'not so well known places' of my country. Sometimes I wonder should I not keep some of these places only to myself, but then again fortunately my blog isn't world famous so it is not available to everyone. Plus, I know my readers will appreciate those kind of posts.  I suppose I just enjoying sharing places that I love too much  (both those well know like Hvar town and those lesser known). Besides, that's what this blog is for- sharing things that bring me joy.

BUDITE TURIST U SVOJEM GRADU - PREDNOSTI LOKALNOG TURIZMA

THE STORY OF MY OUTFIT- HOW I WORE IT BEFORE
I guess that the olive green gypsy skirt with lilac details is the star of this outfit. It's an old and much loved piece for sure. Purchased 15 years ago in Sicily, this gypsy skirt has seen some interesting times to say the least. This time I styled it with a burgundy jacket and a mustard sweater I bought while I was still living on island Hvar. I also wore my trusted biker boots and an old faux leather tote bag.
THE BURGUNDY JACKET- (from Mana), worn here , here, here , here and here.
THE MUSTARD TURTLENECK (from Kik), worn here, here and here.
THE GYPSY SKIRT (not branded, purchased in Sicily), worn herehere and here
THE BIKER BOOTS worn here, here and here.

Naturally, I couldn't resist the opportunity to take a few photographs next to the local boat I painted.  If you remember, I painted this boat with acrylics not long ago (see here). You can see this boat if you visit Hvar port as well. I gifted the canvas to a local fishermen  in Jelsa (not the actual owner of the boat but he knows the fisherman who owns this beautiful boat and will possibly show it to him). The fisherman from Jelsa was happy with the gift and appreciated the thought behind. I painted his boat as well (the night painting of boats in Jelsa), but that was only after I left island Hvar so I couldn't gift that one. My husband sent him the photograph of my painting and he recognized his fishing boat on it. Oh, how lovely it was living on island Hvar. It truly is a magical place.

Thank you so much for visiting and commenting. My art prints are available for purchase on Redbubble and Arthaus. Have a lovely day and take care.

  9. The town is gorgeous. I fully agree with you that it's better to visit popular places off season and, of course, to make sure one visits where they live. It would be a shame not to know the most beautiful places around one's home.
You look stunning too. I loved all the photos.

  11. I'm not a fan of mass tourism either, so I'm totally with you. I love visiting lesser known places and if I visit somewhere popular, I'm trying to do that out of season. We went to Bruges here in Belgium back in February and it was a haven of quiet while at other times people flock to the place from all over the world. I have a feeling you are missing Island Hvar? Hvar town looks absolutely gorgeous in Autumn, as do you, in your gypsy skirt paired with that fabulous mustard turtle neck! Wishing you a lovely week, Ivana xxx

  15. What a wonderful place, I agree with you it is better to visit a place when it is low season because you cannot enjoy it when there are too many people, even the photos are rare with so many people around, I am in favor of local and sustainable tourism and yes, from now on ahead there is more control in that sense it seems good to me, I like the print of your gypsy skirt, kisses.

  16. With all that Hvar has to offer, it's no wonder you're such a fan of playing tourist there. I also prefer a more cultural version of tourism and that's what I miss most about not being able to visit in NYC this year.

  18. Hi again Ivana,

I liked your thoughts about tourism and traveling, making a staycation is another way of discovering and just from the smallest gestures.... taking a different track, exploring a new restaurants and go with the camera to capture the smallest details. I really liked and identified myself with this text and I'm glad to know a little more about Hvar through your work and posts.

Now I would like to book a trip and discover all the places you always share with us.... and all of the recommendations from Hvar definitely remind me a lot to Sitges, places in Mallorca and other zones of Spain! That's marvelous!

PS: The outfit is so bright and I adored how it makes a contrast with the blue of the sky and the ocean *_*

I do wish I had taken the time to visit Hvar when I went to Korcula- it just looked heaving when I visited so I decided to avoid it.
