30+ OUTFIT IDEAS WITH A SHORTER BLACK COAT

What is more classical than a black coat? If there is an autumn/winter outwear essential, that's definitely the black coat. Most of you probably own at least one and many of you own several of them. I own only two and they differ only in length. Both of them are double breasted but one is longer than the other. I have had both of them for ages and I do enjoy styling them.  For this post, I'll focus on my shorter black coat.  I'll show you 30+ ways to wear this black coat for autumn/winter.

If you're looking for inspiration for styling your black coat, you have come to the right place. I have worn this coat in so many ways. One of the things I like about it is how easy it is to style. It looks great both with neutral and colourful outfits, casual and classy ones. It just looks good with everything! I bought this coat years ago and if my photo records are correct, I wore it more than 40 times (taken that this coat costed only 25 euros, that's zero cost per wear). That makes it a sustainable item (30 wears is what we should strive for to have an eco friendly closet).

I will divide my black coat outfit proposals in two categories: skirt (or dresses) and pants. One thing I noticed is that I tend to wear this coat more with pants than I do with skirts and dresses. That's interesting. Another thing I noticed is that I like to pair it with high boots and colourful accessories.

    Baci!

  16. A classic black coat is a must in any closet. It may not make a huge statement but it will be a very versatile workhorse that can be styled in so many ways as you've beautifully demonstrated here. Great job on that cost per wear. I think that is the best way to gauge the value of your wardrobe.

  26. I used to do just a plain black coat all the time, and then one of my readers wanted to see my outerwear with my daily looks - and that started me off on a full outerwear/coat collection! I now have 4 black coats, out of a closet of about 24 coats total, in all colours, shapes and weights. I do still enjoy a black coat, but I much more prefer picking the right coat for the outfit.

That said, you have really gotten your money's worth out of this one, Ivana! Well done!

  27. At the moment my jacket is a long black trench coat, but for many years before this I had a shorter black coat like yours! And I loved it because there were so many ways to wear it, and it worked with skirts and dresses. Now with my longer one, when I wear a shorter skirt or dress you can't see it so it looks a little bit odd :P
