TRAVEL WITH MY ART #20: BEACH SOLINE, VRBOSKA, ISLAND HVAR (CROATIA)

Hi there lovely readers, blog visitors and/or fellow bloggers! Today I have a new landscape painting to share with you. This time I painted beautiful Vrboska beach on island Hvar. As some of you might remember, TRAVEL WITH MY ART is a regular series on my blog where I share my paintings of different locations and places. My last painting was inspired by Sućuraj on island Hvar. This time I was once again inspired by island Hvar, but this time the location is different, it's beach Soline. I painted Vrboska before, but not this beach.

Now, a bit of information about this painting. The medium for this painting is acrylic paints on paper. This 'Soline beach' painting is not as ambitious as the last canvas 'Sućuraj' painting I shared (HERE). That last 'Sućuraj' painting was bigger, more detailed, intricate and labour intensive. In contrast, this acrylic painting was done on paper in  A4 format is. So, it's not a large painting.  I worked on it for two days (maybe 5- 6 hours in total).  I did my best to capture the sea more quickly but still have some details present. I've been known to spend plus 200 hours working on some seascape painting, so six hours doesn't feel like a lot of time. Sometimes it is nice to make a simpler and quicker painting. Sure, the result is not as magical as those 'time and labour intense' paintings, but it is still nice.

I used my own photographs as a reference (and also those taken by my husband) for this painting. The art supplies (professional acrylic paints and mixed media paper) used to make this painting are both by Royal Talens brand. Not that I'm collaborating with this art brand or anything like that, they just happen to be the brand of choice of the local art gallery in Michelangelo (where I do all of my shopping). For any inquiries about purchasing my art, you may email me.

If you have a look above, you'll be able to see how I framed this painting. I choose the same greyish wood frames as for my recent landscape paintings, but I decided to go for A3 frame and leave a bit of white between. I just think it looks more neat that way. The white space gives the painting some breathing space. Moreover, this sketchbook mixed paper isn't exactly A4, there's a centimetre or so lacking, so that makes framing more difficult. By using a larger frame, I can easily fix that problem. These frames are store bought and not expensive. I usually  frame my canvas paintings in the local gallery. I was thinking of framing my paper ones there as well, but it is quite expensive, so I decided to try other options for my paper paintings. Paper is easy to frame, so store bought frames will do for now. I do plan on continuing to use the local art gallery for framing of my canvases. I mean a canvas painting is always a financial investment so spending more on frames makes sense. Paper on the other hand can be a great medium for when you want to try out something more quickly. I love working in different mediums. Bellow you can see a close up of this painting as well as some collages documenting my previous visits to beach Soline.

BEACH SOLINE, THE INSPIRATION BEHIND THIS PAINTING

Beach Soline is one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen and visited. It's an absolute dream. The sea is so clear and warm. I love it there. It is very popular with nautical tourists. Every time I was there last summer, there were a few sailing boats and yachts in vicinity. If you remember, I often visited beach Soline in the winter (read more here). This beach was definitely love at first sight for me. I only visited it once this year. I wish I had more opportunities to enjoy it this year, but my 2021 wasn't as happy as my 2020. Anyhow, you can expect this beach to be crowded in the summer (not right not, but in peak season it can get busy). It is too beautiful and too easily accessible for it  not to be popular and frequently visited. This time of year there shouldn't be too many visitors, so if you have an opportunity to visit it, by all means take it.

Beach Soline is a truly beautiful place. When you google it, pay attention. This is actually not the only bay named Soline in Croatia, there is another one but that one isn't located on island Hvar, so don't forget to type Vrboska as well. Another tip is enjoying a shadowy walk under the pine trees. As you can see from my photographs, there are a lot of pine trees there. This beach is very open to the sun. Basically, it is located in a great spot so the sun hits it during all day. At the same time, there is also a lot of natural shade around. The pine tree forest will offer you all the shade you need. Walking by the sea and breathing in the scent of the sea and pine trees....is there anything more relaxing? So, when you visit bay Soline on island Hvar, don't forget to walk around and explore the area  on foot.

BEACH SOLINE IS A PERFECT LOCATION YEAR AROUND
I visited beach Soline in all seasons. Living on island Hvar in 2019 and 2020 gave me an unique opportunity to visit this beach frequenly and in all seasons. My conclusion is-  beach Soline is just as beautiful in winter and autumn time as it is during summer.

  6. You really have your water technique down pat. I love that matting around your paper paintings - it does give the painting some focus and space. Excellent call on the frames.

What a gorgeous place! I know, I keep saying that, lol, but it's truly a beautiful part of the world. How lucky we are!

  13. Beach Soline is such a stunning place and you once again gave it credit and captured it magnificently. The movement of the water is quite magical. I think leaving a white border, or alternatively use a white passe-partout, makes your paintings stand out even more! xxx

  16. The realism and enveloping loveliness of your painting is such a joy to experience. I adore how you've captured the sense of movement in the water and the rich, expressive, gorgeous colour palette you utilized here. It's every bit as stunning as the real beach.
