VISITING BASINA BAY ON ISLAND HVAR, CROATIA

Weekends are a great time to get proactive about our health and use our free time to go hiking & trekking. Spending time outdoors is quite beneficial for our health. I have written about this topic a number of times on my blog. Those of you who are regular readers know that I like nothing better than exploring the area I live in on foot. Hiking can be such a healthy and inspirational activity and the best thing is that it doesn't cost a thing. Since I have been living on island Hvar these past few months, I have tried to take every opportunity to explore this magical island. Recently I have discovered bay Basina. It is a small bay, very close to Vrboska  and Jelsa. This was my first visit to this beautiful bay. I discovered it quite by chance. Island Hvar has so many amazing beaches and secluded bays to offer. Despite spending most of my summers here, I still have so much to discover.
Basina bay is a beautiful place, no doubt about it. There are so many beautiful bays on island Hvar to choose from. A lot of them are much like this one. Secluded and private, surrounded by a gorgeous pine forest. In most of the bays, the homes are privately owned and available for rent during the spring and summer period. I always love seeing the old stone houses (much like those build my my ancestors) but I also like to see new and modern houses. Croatian people are builders by nature, they will always put their funds in real estate. They like to build houses, they like to invest into them and they like to talk about architecture and construction. I always joke you can tell always tell where Croatian people live just by seeing what the houses look like. I also enjoy house watching, it always gives me new ideas and inspiration for possible house projects in the future.

Strolling this bay on a sunny winter day was such a peaceful and serene experience. We saw a restaurant sign, but it was not open during the winter. I think I already mentioned that most restaurants are closed during the winter season. There are a few of them open in Jelsa and Starigrad. I can definitely recommend Kod Damira restraunt in Starigrad city.  I have eaten there a couple of time lately and the food was always great. Anyhow, we didn't really mind the lack of dining options in Basina bay, as we had other plans and I didn't expected to find a restaurant open there anyway this time of year. In other words, we were more than happy to just sit and chill here. Wouldn't you be?
MY ART PRINTS AVAILABLE ON REDBUBBLE SITE
I often paint boats. If you noticed, the walls in my home are literary covered with paintings of boats. Adriatic sea is a major inspiration for my art. While I don't sell my original art & paintings at the moments, there are still plenty of prints, canvas prints, art posters and similar products in my Redbubble, so check them out if that is something you're interested in.
EXPLORING AREA CLOSE TO BASINA BAY, ISLAND HVAR & MY OUTFIT
On that sunny winter day, we also explored the area surrounding Basina and found some lovely pathways as well as a little hill that was turned into an olive tree plantation. Just lovely! My outfit was very comfortable and as usual nothing was new about it. You've seen me post more than 30 ways to wear this short black coat, so you know it is a sustainable item. I've actually worn it a couple of times after that post as well (for example here)! You had the chance of seeing this beanie, this scarf, these biker boots and this maxi skirt too. This year I'm all about sustainable fashion. Anyhow, this was a very comfy hiking outfit. It kept me warm and I think it looked pretty cute too.
BASINA BAY- WOULD I VISIT IT AGAIN? & ISLAND HVAR DIARIES
I definitely would like to visit it again. Maybe I will pay it another visit one of these days. There are so many lovely bays in island Hvar and I can't wait to discover and share all of them with you.  If you want to know more about what Croatia has to offer, you can check this post:  MY TOP TEN FAVOURITE CROATIAN DESTINATIONS IN 2019. 4. You are lucky to have such lovely places to hike where you live. Yes weekends are a great time to get proactive about our health and getting outdoors with a hike is wonderful way to enjoy nature and improve our health at the same time. We can't really hike in the city but I do enjoy walking as much as possible since it's one of the best ways to get around NYC.

  7. What a lovely area, and Basina bay is particularly picturesque. I love boats bobbing in a harbour. I do agree with you on the health benefits of hiking, and it seems to me that - unlike here in Belgium - you have been quite lucky with the weather. Lots of our weekends - the only time when we can do any hiking - have been rainy and thus far too wet to venture outside, let alone go for walks or hikes. Loving your comfortable yet stylish hiking outfit! Wishing you a lovely week ahead, my friend! xxx
