RUJISTE 'THE HERZEGOVIAN HIMALAYA' ; A MOUNTAIN OASIS NEAR MOSTAR

Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! Do you like mountains and hiking? If the answer is yes, you have come to the right place. Today I'm taking you to a mountain oasis Rujište,  a part of Prenj mountain that is also known as 'Herzegovian Himalaya'.  Rujiste is a mountain area located between mountains Prenj and Velez but it could be said that Rujiše mountain is a part of Prenj mountain. This beautiful destination is only a short drive from Mostar city. Besides showing you around this mountain oasis, we'll be talking about what to wear for hiking in summer. So, let's get started!

THE STORY OF AN OUTFIT- WHAT TO WEAR FOR HIKING IN SUMMER? This outfit is another example of me shopping my closet. I already linked up some of my older looks with these clothing items bellow the first photograph, I'm sure regular readers of my blog are well familiar with them. All of these clothing items are very dear to me and they worked great together to make me feel very comfortable on a hot summer day. The mint cropped top is a vintage piece I inherited and I absolutely love it. The high waist denim skirt has been with me for 15 years, I bought in Ljubljana- one of the best impulsive buys in my life. The sneakers were a gift from my husband, he picked them in a supermarket for next to nothing. I have never been able to make myself buy the original converse as they seem so overpriced to me but I sometimes buy similar models of sneakers as they are comfortable for summer. The tote bag is vintage piece that I customized with textile paints. The necklace is a DIY project that I'm very proud of since it involved recycling my mother's fringed curtain excess material. The straw hat is one of the few pieces I bought this summer and it has really came in handy. Here I customized it by decorating it with a vintage belt. There is a lot of customizing in this outfit.

THE BENEFIT OF PAIRING  CROPPED TOPS WITH HIGH RISE CUTS IN THE SUMMER! If you want to wear cropped tops but don't want to show too much skin, then a great solution is to pair them with high rise items, be it skirts or pants. Another great option is wearing a cropped top over dresses, jumpsuits or blouses. The possibilities are endless, you can try layering them underneath or wearing them over other clothing items.

OUR VISIT IN A PARAGRAPH:  TRYING OUT THE NEW HIKING TRACK AND ENJOYING A CUP OF COFFEE! I already wrote about the new hiking track in one of my old posts. We didn't go all the way this time because my husband hurt his leg as soon as we started the hike, so only walked for about a short time and then we stopped for a cup of coffee. I did really enjoy our visit. This hiking track is great because it is not difficult so it is suitable for everyone. There are even little exercise posts along way if the track isn't too challenging for you and you want to get into shape.  Personally, I've been trying to get back on track with exercise. I'm currently enjoying working out with Lazy Dancer Tips videos. Besides being an awesome instructor, Alessia has a very sweet personality. #modaodaradosti RUJISTE AKA 'THE HERZEGOVIAN HIMALAYA' ; A MOUNTAIN OASIS NEAR MOSTAR#modaodaradosti RUJISTE AKA 'THE HERZEGOVIAN HIMALAYA' ; A MOUNTAIN OASIS NEAR MOSTAR

WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN RUJISTE? My articles are often as much about a location as they are about the outfit and today's post is no exception. Today I will rave about this gorgeous mountain destination. Isn't it amazing how all this natural beauty and wonder is located only 25 km from Mostar city? Bellow is a list of ideas about what you can see and do in Rujiste. People come to Rujiste (Slavic spelling Rujište) in summer for various reasons.

1. HIKE, STROLL AROUND AND TAKE PHOTOGRAPHS
2. INDULGE IN VARIOUS OUTDOOR SPORTS
3. TRY A A MOUNTAIN TRACK IN RUJIŠTE
4. ENJOY A PICNIC IN THE FRESH AIR
5. COLLECT HERBS AND FLOWERS (IF YOU ARE KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THEM!)
6. CHILL AND DINE AT HOTEL SNJEŽNA KUĆA

WHAT IS THE ALTITUDE OF RUJIŠTE MOUNTAIN? HOW HIGH ARE THE PEAKS OF PRENJ?
The altitude at Rujište is around one thousand meters. The peaks of mountain Prenj are significantly higher, over two thousands meters (something you should know if you decide to explore this area a bit more). The high peaks of Prenj are probably why this mountain is sometimes nicknamed the Herzegovian Himalaya. Many people aren't aware of how many amazing mountains there are in Herzegovina, or in Bosnia and Herzegovina for that matter.  There are quite a few mountains here and they are glorious! In fact, I found out that there are 64 mountains with peaks over 1,500 meters in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Isn't that amazing for a country that isn't that big? 64 really high mountains!

HERZEGOVINA IN THE SUMMERTIME: A REGION OF FULL OF DIVERSITY- One thing that fascinates me about Herzegovina is how diverse and colourful it is. It is a great destination for summer.  You can visit so many different areas just in immediate vicinity of Mostar and even more if we're talking about the region as such. Anyhow, if you are visiting Mostar, you definitely should drive here and enjoy the mountain air. I often state that Bosnia and Herzegovina is one of those underrated destinations. Herzegovina in particular offers all the benefits of Mediterranean climate, but at the same time you can enjoy the mountains that are only a short drive or a climb away.  My list of mountain attractions and oasis wouldn't be complete without Rujište. It is easy to get there by car and the high altitude ensures all the famous benefits of mountain air. I do enjoy enjoy these kind of improvised trips. They are easy to organize, don't take a lot of time and they still allow you to indulge your wanderlust. Do you love weekend getaways? Do you indulge in such trips and excursions? Do you like mountains?

  4. Hello Ivana, good to see that you have a pleasant weekend full of adventures!

I'll be honest, I am not the best one when it comes to escapades to the nature, specially if it includes hiking or other similar activities haha, but of course I'm always opened to new experiences and this one sounds really appealing, specially for the fact to get in contact with nature and other surroundings that can help you to disconnect from the busy life of everyday!

The OOTD you picked looks perfect for the occasion, and the sneakers gave by your husband are so beautiful and versatile, even for other times or types of outfits.... By the way hope he's feeling better now!

    Have a beautiful week ahead!

  7. What a lovely place for a walk. Your denim skirt and crop top were just right for your trip. I hope your husband's leg is on the mend now and you'll be able to get out and walk again very soon.
I love mountains, especially those bordering Greek beaches. Hiking and rambling aren't for us, Jon would drive to the end of the street if he had to! xxx

  12. Wonderful! I like the nickname "Herzegovian Himalaya". Beautiful pictures, I could imagine that it's less hot out there in the summer than in the city... the scenery is outstanding, but I also like your creativity in wearing "hiking clothes" which are far away from the typical stuff (like sports clothes and hiking shoes!) You prove that it's not neccesary to wear goretex stuff, look great, even when hiking!!! That's inspiring... I like mountains as well (in Munich the Alps are not far...)
    Have a nice time, Maren

  13. Ja obožavam planinarenje i šetnje u prirodi. To me toliko opušta i svaki put kada se vratim kući budem puna energije. Nisam znala za ovu planinu, ali priroda je predivna i sigurna sam da si uživala. Također jako mi se sviđa priča iza tvoje majice kao i njezine vintage vibe.
