All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
Today I shall review The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak. I was actually gifted this book. What a wonderful present it proved to be! Published in 2021, this postmodern novel follows two story lines and uses framed narration. The Island of Missing Trees tells the life story of a Greek Turkish couple and their adolescent daughter. This novel examines and explores a number of topics such as identity, migration, immigrant life, war trauma, memory, love and family. It's an ambitious novel that examines serious topics with due respect and sensitivity . I read it months ago, but I remember it vividly. Honestly, I cried a lot while reading this novel. It really moved me greatly. In fact, that is probably why it took me this long to finish this book review. I needed to emotionally process the story. The Island of Missing Trees is set in London and Cyprus. The narration isn't chronological . The story jumps back and forth, following ...
Hello readers and fellow bloggers. Today I'm taking you with me on a winter walk through Hutovo blato, and let me warn you in advance, this post is going to be picture heavy. We visited Hutovo blato about a month ago on a sunny but mildly windy winter day. Needless to say, I really enjoyed our visit. The start of the year was pretty rough for me, as it was for most people, one way or another. We seem to be living in rough times, and while every time has its challenges, I feel like we're living in difficult times. Unless I'm mistaken, this is one of those challenging periods for humankind. There are days when I feel like there's too much collective burden on all of us. All the more reason to take a moment to breathe- and what is a better place for that than Hutovo blato? Honestly, one of my favourite places in Bosnia and Herzegovina is Hutovo blato. I consider it to be the hidden gem of Europe. So, let's talk about Hutovo blato (literally translated it would mean H...
With summer being in full spring, I caught myself thinking about iconic summer outfits. Do you know what came to my mind? Costumes/outfits worn by Monica Belluci when she played Malena Scordia in an iconic Italian movie set on Sicily. The costumes for that movie were designed by an acclaimed Italian costume designer Maurizio Millenotti and he outdone himself! Seeing that Malena is a historical movie, Maurizio choose quite timeless outfits and cuts that will ever go out of style. That fact makes Malena movie the perfect place to look for inspiration! Moreover, I feel that Monica Belluci's personal style is quite similar to Malena's (i.e. to the style of the character she is playing). There is definitely a Mediterranean lady feel about Malena/Monica Bellucci. What says summer better than Mediterranean and Sicily? Today we'll analyze Malena's style and see what we can learn from her. There is much to learn! Having analyzed looks that Monica wore in iconic Malena film, I...
Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers. This post is going is going to combine literature and fashion. One could say that's a pretty common combination on my blog. When I post my book reviews, I like to add in some fashion images as well. In this post, I'll share a review for a few short story written by Maupassant, a French author. I'll also show you some cute outfits I wore, so let's get started. I'm sharing two outfits today, both of them have a touch of metallic in them. One of them is a more romantic lilac outfit worn with a silver cropped top, while the other is an all black look completed with a vintage black vest with golden imitation pearls. I think the vintage vest really added something to that look. Similarly, the silver cropped top complemented the lilac dress and skirt pretty well. The skirt and the dress I wore under the skirt and the top are both from a local brand Ozz by fashion designer Stanka Zovko. I'll share the links to 'how I wore it...
In this post, we shall examine Maria Callas' style secrets. Maria Callas was a legendary opera signer, nicknamed 'La Divina'. Considered one of the most important and renowned opera singers of the twentieth century, Maria Callas's artistic and style legacy continues to inspire. Her stage life was relatively short, but her influence on opera was enormous. Maria Callas died in her early fifties from a heart attack, after battling dermatomyosis (a rare illness that affects the muscles) for years. CALLAS COULD PERHAPS BE BEST DESCRIBED AS AN ARTIST OF THE WORLD We could perhaps describe Callas as a citizen of the world. This Greek American singer was celebrated not only in her native countries (USA & Greece), but in Italy, France and England. Callas spoke four languages fluently. Maria Callas was intelligent, eloquent and well spoken. During her life, she was considered a style icon. It is her style that we shall examine in this post. I would describe her st...
