3 SIMPLE WAYS TO CHANGE UP YOUR ROUTINE

Change comes in many different shapes and forms. Not every change needs to be dramatic and  stressful, sometimes change can be easy and simple. Little changes to our daily routine can help with introducing a more positive outlook on life. We all know that feeling of being stuck in a rot. It isn't a good feeling, is it? In fact, routine can make us feel trapped and even depressed. That is why little changes to our daily routine can be beneficial for our productivity. Today I'll present some free, simple and easy ideas for spicing up things that can be applied to different aspects of your life.

The idea is that you don't have to spend time and money to change things up in your life.  You can jazz up your daily activities by doing something simple, like reversing the order in which you do things. If you can't afford to travel, you can try to find some new and interesting places in your home town. You can stop for a cup of coffee in a new cafe you have never been to and so on. If you can't afford new clothing items, you can learn how to shop your closet better. If you feel your relationship is stuck in a rot, you can try doing new activities together. If you are currently struggling with learning something, you can try finding a new learning method that will work better for you. Changing your routine doesn't have to be intimidating, overwhelming and expensive. It can be easy, simple and free of charge.

EASY AND SIMPLE WAYS TO CHANGE UP YOUR ROUTINE

#1 TRY DOING SOMETHING NEW!

How can we apply this to fashion?

How can you change your style routine easily? By introducing new elements into. For example, you can try wearing a new colour (shade) or a new cut. Alternative, you can mix items that you don't usually wear together. You can try  rocking a new accessory or wear an accessory you usually wear in a different way.  If usually wear big earrings, you can try wearing small ones or accessorize in some other ways. Alternative, you can do a new hairstyle, make up look  or a manicure. Doing something new doesn't have to involve shopping for your clothes. It can be about shopping your closet and trying new combinations. For example, if you don't usually wear heels, you could try wearing a low heel. Alternative, if you're always wearing high heels (you shouldn't do that btw), you can try wearing lower heels or flat shoes. If you always wear jeans, you can try wearing something other than that. If you like casual fashion  but want to try something new, you can try wearing sneakers with dresses or shorts.

How we can apply this to language learning?
We can apply this principle of doing something new to language learning. You can try listening to your favourite songs in the language you're learning. If you're already doing that, then try listening to podcasts, books or TV. If you're already doing all of that, then find some other language learning method you haven't tried and try it. Think of new ways you can incorporate language learning into your daily routine. For example, if you enjoy cooking, you can try following instructions in the foreign language you're learning.

Where else can we apply this 'do something new new' rule to? Actually, we can apply it to just about everything. For example, if you work out or do sports, it is actually beneficial that you try out new exercises. If you always repeat the same exercises, your body and muscles will get lazy. The same goes for our brain. Trying out something new is good for our brain.

#2 REVERSE THE ORDER IN WHICH YOU DO THINGS!

This is such an easy way to bring changes to our routine.  You don't have to change what you do, you just have to change the order you do it. For example, perhaps you're doing your language  studying late at night. You can try doing it right after you get up, when your mind is still fresh. For example, you can set up some time in the morning for writing down a grammar look, take advantage of your lunch break to have another look at it and do something more relaxing (but still connected) with language learning in the evening. You can take your typical language lesson and divide it into smaller parts.  Alternatively, if you are a night owl, then maybe you'll want to study at night. Still, it might be fun to reverse the order.
This principle of changing the order of things can be applied to anything.  Instead of working out half an hour, you can divide your exercises into five minutes series you will distribute throughout the day. This way working out might feel like less of a choir.  When it comes to fashion, you can apply this rule by reversing the way you get dressed.  You can also try wearing clothing items the other way around or in an alternative way. The idea is that instead of your changing what you usually do, you can just change up the order in which you do things. If you have more than one outfit you wear in a day (for example you might have a more formal dress code at work and more relaxed one in everyday life), then you can bring elements from these different outfits together. You can recycle your office look for a date night. Why not wear your office outfit for drinks or a date lunch? Why not?

#3 FIND SOME COMPANY (A FRIEND TO DO SOMETHING WITH)!
We are social creatures, so why not find someone to keep you company and make your daily routines more fun. Find a language learning /exercise /fashion buddy, someone you can share things with. You can even try finding out more people who are interested in the same activity. For example, you can organize swamping clothes parties with your friends. You could invite a friend to help you shop your closet and turn it into a girl's night. Sometimes the proverb 'the more, the merrier' really applies.  Let's imagine that you like to cook and bake on everyday basis. Instead of cooking dinner alone, why not do it with friends? Why not get together and try different recipes and then divide among yourself the food? Even boring chores such as cleaning can be more fun in company. You could arrange mutual 'cleaning hours' with a friend of yours. Most things we do are more fun when we do them in company.

OUTFIT NUMBER #1
In this outfit, you can see me applying these 'change your routine' principles. Nothing is new about this outfit. I've revamped this grey suit by pairing it wit leopard heels and a oversized statement scarf. I've also braided my hair a bit differently.  Sometimes all a certain outfit needs to feel fresh is a bit o change.

The second outfit is all about shopping my closet as well. I wasn't sure how this dotted dark light almost pastel lilac would work with the dark shades (the olive blazer, the dark blue scarf and black dress) but it ended up working just fine together.
OUTFIT NUMBER #2
THE BLACK MINI DRESS (from an outlet, worn as a top)
THE GREY MINI LEATHER BAG BAG (second hand, gift)

  6. Your grey suit outfit is so elegant, Ivana! Your point about changing how you do things - and the exercise example - rang true for me. I find it hard to motivate to exercise in a big chunk of time (like an hour-long walk), so now I do short bursts of exercises (strength training) while I cook dinner or wait for my popcorn to pop. It's been a real eye-opener at how I can shift myself out of old habits - and I am a HUGE creature of habit!

  12. I love the grey suit outfit - the scarf is so fun with it! you wear blazers well! I'm trying to get more wear from mine - after the switch to working from home I've really just been ignoring all my office wear, and I need to try wear my blazers more often, they look great with jeans!

Hope you are having a good week. It's another rainy one here!

  23. Hello Ivana,

I really enjoyed reading this blog post since you talked about something that affects everyone. And sometimes the word "change" could have a negative feeling or something that is impossible to change. But as you well said a change could optimistic and obviously changes could bring something new at the other side of the door. I totally agree with you that spicing up our routine through the simple detail could be the best way to add emotion to our lives! And fashion is here to play so adding new things (it doesn't mean we need to spend a lot of money) could make a huge difference in how we see life :)

I loved your proposal here! Specially the printed scarf (my favorite) and the one with the lilac skirt which is a garment full of joy and personality!

    Take care friend!
