FASHION ILLUSTRATION & ART FRIDAY: NEW PAINTINGS AND ILLUSTRATIONS

When it comes to art production, I haven't been lazy this summer. I certainly can't complain to art gods & muses, they keep me inspired 24/7. I'm actually currently working on a new series of paintings, utilizing watercolour pencils. Today I'll share some of them with you! The medium for all of  these paintings is watercolour pencils (and in most cases they were applied to a mixed media paper). As I already mentioned in my last Fashion Illustration Friday feature, I've been working more with watercolours pencils. These paintings were first sketched and then I applied water with a brush to turn them into watercolours. I'll walk you through the process with photographs in case you want to see how you can paint with watercolour pencils. I remember how in my past post many of you have said that you haven't tried watercolour pencils and expressed curiosity about them, so I'll include plenty of photographs, to explain the painting process visually. You'll get to see how 3 paintings and illustrations were made (well, actually four illustrations if you count two fashion illustration painted on the same paper as two). You know what they say- a picture paints a thousand words.
A WOMAN HOLDING A BOUQUET OF FLOWERS
The first painting I'm sharing with you is that of a woman holding a bouquet of flowers and wearing a red and a blue dress. I like to paint women holding flowers, it seems. Here and here are other painting of mine with a similar motive.  The eyes of this lady are quite expressive, as catching emotion in the eyes is something that I try to do with my art, especially the one of the portrait kind. This painting also features a close up detail of roses as well. You could say that with this painting I have returned to my common motive of beautiful women with big eyes. I'm not sure what to call it. It's not exactly a fashion illustration, is it? Not even one of a artistic kind.  Still, I would say that the V neck dress our subject is wearing is a big part of the painting. What do you think?

HOW I PAINT WITH WATERCOLOUR PENCILS: A GIRL WITH BEAUTIFUL EYES
Bellow you can see a few photo collages that explain the painting process of a portrait I did. As you can see, first I made a general sketch, then I added more details. This painting is more of a portrait art, but painted without a reference. I just let my imagination run wild in this one, you could say. Scroll down to see the painting process and the difference the application of water does.

FASHION ILLUSTRATION MADE WITH WATERCOLOURS PENCILS
I also made some new fashion illustration with watercolours. While I was working on my new fashion illustrations, I  took some photographs as well to allow you to see the art process. Once again I relied on watercolour pencils from Steadler  brand (the mention isn't not sponsored, I just want to let you know what I'm working with). I quite like these pencil watercolours and the added bonus is that the brands claims to be sustainable.  Now, as for this illustration featuring two designs, I'm really happy with how it turned out. It's all about summer vibes, it seems to me. Maybe it was influenced by my Croatian vacation? What do you guys think? As you can see bellow, I illustrated a green summer maxi dress with a slit and a rest swimming costume worn with a matching beach cover up. Is it something you would wear yourself? The first collage showed the watercolour pencil sketch before applying water and the second shows the finished illustration.

I'm a big believer in working on developing our skills and that applies to our art and creative skills as well. Talent doesn't mean anything if you don't put in the time and the work. Sure, some of us are perhaps born with a tendency to love art and desire to do it, but every skill takes time and effort to develop. That is why I always say, talent isn't everything. You don't know unless you try.  That is why I include links to old posts and fashion illustrations, to show that art is a process. 6. I always enjoy when you showcase your artwork especially since you're always treating us with a little behind the scenes on your creative process. These are all lovely and the vibrant colors you've used certainly reflect the vibrance of summer. It's great that you were able to find watercolor pencils that are sustainable. The watercolor pencils look like they have a softer quality than regular colored pencils. I agree that we have to constantly work at developing our skills when it comes to any creative pursuits.

  14. I wish I had even a fraction of your talent, Ivana. And your energy. On top of everything else you achieve in your daily life, I'm always amazed at the number of books you managed to read. And then you also manage to create these fabulous watercolour paintings. Even as a non-artist, I love having a glimpse into your creative process, and the end result is certainly fabulous. My favourite is the lady holding the bouquet of flowers. Those colours are simply amazing. And last but not least, I just love, love, love that cute jumpsuit you are wearing! Having a wonderful weekend, Ivana! xxx

  20. Hi Ivana! your illustrations are pretty and the outfits are the bomb! :) Anyway, thank you for sharing your story. I really appreciate :) I'm trying my best to prevent further damage. I also don't know what causes this :(

I didn't know that you have scoliosis! Definitely not visible or obvious in your photos. Thanks also for letting me know that there are some ballet exercises that might be bad for scoliosis so I am now very eager to get my bones checked up!

Have a wonderful week, Ivana! :)

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
