The spring of the river Tihaljina (photography ) / Izvor rijeke Tihaljine (fotografija)

Have I saved the best for last? I'll let you be the judge of that. This is my third and last post  (links for the first one and the second one ) from Peć Mlini and today I'll show you the spring of the river Tihaljina. This freshwater spring is absolutely beautiful. I was even fortunate enough to see a freshwater crab there, but unfortunately I don't know its scientific name. In vain I researched the internet, the name of this freshwater crab will remain a mystery to me. Nevertheless, it is another indication of how pure this water really is. Perfect place for a swim, my friends assured me!

Do you remember my posts about Trebižad river?  Anyhow, according to wikipedia, because of the fact that Trebižad river disappears and reappears many times, people have developed a total of nine names for it.In the past they didn't know it is one and the same river. Tihaljina is just one of those names. Isn't that fascinating?  Another fascinating information is that the area surrounding this magnificent water oasis was populated since the prehistorical times. Actually, it makes perfect sense. Who wouldn't want to live here?

Peć Mlini is in fact a part of the village Drinovci, located in BIH near the border with Croatia. The name of Peć Mlini, as fellow blogger +beate grigutsch  noticed, can mean 'furnace mills'. In Croatian 'peć' means furnace (or stove/ oven) but it can also be short for 'cave' i.e. pećina. I can't claim to know for sure the etimology of this name, but I think it is possible that in this case it can also mean the later because the spring of the Tihaljina river is as you can see located in a cave. In the first post, you had the chance to observe the ruins of one mill and in the second post I've included so many photograps that I decided to refrain from writing. This third post wraps it all up. I will repeat once again that I recommend visiting this place. Keep it in mind!

Pošto Trebižad izvire i nestaje nekoliko puta, narod ga poznaje pod čak devet imena. Zar to nije zanimljivo?

Ime ovog zaselka Drinovaca sigurno ime veze s mlinovima. Ruševinu jednog mlina mogli ste vidjeti u prvoj objavi.

  27. That is fascinating about the river having 9 names. It sounds somewhat fantastical and a bit sinister when I say it aloud. The River of 9 Names. Sounds like an old Kung Fu film. Such a lovely place and goats goats goats. So sweet! You look lovely, dear! And I can help with your search for the name of the crab, his name was Fred :)P
