WHAT TO SEE AND DO IN BLAGAJ ( BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA)

I truly enjoy showing you around Bosnia and Herzegovina. Have you noticed that? You know, there are some really amazing destinations in this country. Today I'll take you to beautiful Blagaj, located only a short drive from Mostar city. Blagaj is a picturesque historical village located in Herzegovina region. This little green river oasis is an increasingly popular tourist destination and not without a reason. Blagaj village has got one of the strongest and most beautiful river springs in Europe. This stunning and potent water spring creates Buna river and is a impressive example of karst river formation. Right next to it you can find a historical dervish house (tekija) that is open all year round.

The dervish house dates back to the sixteenth century.  It placed right next to the entrance to the cave  where the river Buna springs from and it is an incredible site. The cliff over the cave is a very impressive sight as well! You can even go for a boat ride in the cave and see this amazing water spring yourself. As I already said, the dervish house is open year around so you can go inside as well. In terms of religious architecture, in this little village you can also find historical christian churches (catholic and orthodox). The village itself is historical, so if you are a history lover, do stroll around and enjoy the sights. If you're a river lover, you'll be happy to see the amazingly clear and beautiful river Buna that runs through the village.  This place is ever green and beautiful. Even in the summer heat, this river was able to offer us some refreshment.

We arrived to Blagaj when the sun was already strong so I pretty much wore a hat at all times. I also wore a green scarf, not for modesty but to protect myself against the sun. The blue one shoulder dress I wore is from last year, I got in a collab and I don't really wear it that often. I think I will try to style it as a top, to get more wears out of it. I'm trying to be as environmentally friendly as possible with my fashion choices. Anyhow, back to the weather talk. I do enjoy the Mediterranean climate that Herzegovina has to offer but keep in mind that it can get really warm in the summer. I must always advise caution (hats, sunsreen, water bootles and all that) because the  summer sun in Herzegovina's is quite merciful. We had a little walk around and enjoyed the scenery. Once we were done walking, we stopped to eat something. It was too hot to eat anything substantial, so we just had some cakes and coffee. This was not my first visit to Blagaj ( read about another visit here) and it probably won't be my last.

  7. Thanks for showing us around Blagaj. It looks very charming. Your dress is very nice. Good call to protect yourself from the sun with a hat and scarf. I've become very sun aware in recent years so i rarely go out without a hat and or scarf during the summer and even use an umbrella when it's really strong.

  12. As Bosnia and Herzegovina is a part of the world totally unknown to me, I'm always reading your posts with wonder and amazement that you live in such an beautiful part of the world. Blagaj looks indeed utterly picturesque. As for that dervish house, how amazing is that, and especially its stunning location on the river beneath those awe-inspiring rocks! That off-the-shoulder dress looks fabulous on you, its blue rivalling with the blue of the sky, while your lovely sea-green scarf seems to blend in with the river's water. I'm sure that scarf was very welcome in the heat of the day. Hope you're looking forward to a wonderful weekend, Ivana! xxx

HOW TO STYLE RED CLOTHING ITEMS FOR WINTER?

A few posts ago (yes, bloggers calculate time in post activity), I wrote about red accessories for winter but I also wanted to write about red clothing items you can wear this time of year. In fact, I was planning to write a big post about wearing red in winter but I realized that I need to split it in two because it was too long. Apparently, I have a lot to say about why wearing red in winter is a good idea. So, today I'll basically post the part two of my red in winter fashion musings. Red is a bold, energetic and dramatic colour. If you ask me, wearing red is a great way to invoke good luck in our new year. You can pair red with neutral colours to tone it down or with vibrant ones to make your outfits even more noticeable. Lunar Year festivities are a perfect time to embrace the red clothing items. Moreover, Valentine's Day is not too far off either. If you're looking for some winter red outfit inspiration, you have come to the right place. HOW TO WEAR RED IN WINTER?   My…

10 STYLE LESSONS LEARNED FROM MALENA/ MONICA BELLUCCI

With summer being in full spring, I caught myself thinking about iconic summer outfits. Do you know what came to my mind? Costumes/outfits worn by Monica Belluci when she played Malena Scordia in an iconic Italian movie set on Sicily.  The costumes for that movie were designed by an acclaimed Italian costume designer Maurizio Millenotti and he outdone himself! Seeing that Malena is a historical movie, Maurizio choose quite timeless outfits and cuts that will ever go out of style. That fact makes Malena movie the perfect place to look for inspiration! Moreover, I feel that Monica Belluci's personal style is quite similar to Malena's (i.e. to the style of the character she is playing). There is definitely a Mediterranean lady feel about Malena/Monica Bellucci. What says summer better than Mediterranean and Sicily? Today we'll analyze Malena's style and see what we can learn from her. There is much to learn! Having analyzed looks that Monica wore in iconic Malena film, I…

VISIT MALA STINIVA BAY ON ISLAND HVAR WITH ME (PART 1)

Today I'm taking you to Mala Stiniva Bay on island Hvar. I might talk for a living, but before this beauty I was left speechless and it's not even the first time I have visited this place. If you remember, I blogged about Mala Stiniva Bay back in 2018 and I originally visited it a few years prior to that rather lengthily travel post. My husband loved this place, so I promised to take him back some time. We went there last week. After I finished working, I put on a pair of white sneakers and drove there. When we got there, we just stared at this bay because it is so overwhelming beautiful. Now, that says something coming from someone who spent most of their summers on this island, mind you. Even for high standards set by island Hvar, this bay is enchanting. Most bays on island Hvar are absolutely gorgeous, but somehow this one stole my heart.  Mala Stiniva Bay belongs to Poljica village on island Hvar (not to be confused with a group of villages located on Dalmatian coast that…
