HOW TO WEAR A DENIM SKIRT (WITH A BLAZER) FOR SPRING?

I often write about shopping one's closet on this little blog of mine. Not only is shopping our closet  a sustainable thing to do, it also helps us to get to know our closet. How can you really know your wardrobe options if you don't style and wear your clothes? The potential of every clothing item increases with a bit of tender love and care (TLC). One of the things I love about shopping one's closet is the opportunity to create stories with our clothing items. When we care about a clothing item, we're more likely to take good care of it and that can help make us more environmentally conscious. Most people could really benefit from learning how to take better care of their clothes, that's for sure. We live in an era of 'wear it then throw it'. This consumerist approach is what makes fashion industry such a horrible polluter. We can all help to change that with our every day choices. Good news is that we can all help it in a variety of ways. From buying vintage or independent designer pieces to shopping our closets and taking better care of our clothes so they would last longer, there are so many strategies we can adopt to make our personal fashion choices more sustainable.

This denim skirt from Amadeus (a Croatian denim brand I've been faithful to for years but I've never collaborated with them or something like that) is one of my favourite pieces. I even illustrated it twice (here and here) and you know that I rarely illustrate my own outfits so that must mean this skirt is really important to me. I do love a good denim skirt, don't you? Today outfit proposal is easy to put together. A casual but feminine spring styling that fits a number of occasions. This is the second time I'm wearing this skirt this spring, and if you want you can see my early spring denim skirt styling here. Not that my early spring styling is much different from the outfit I'm sharing with you today. May is coming to its end, but days are still rainy and fresh. If you look closer, you'll notice that I'm holding an umbrella in some of these shots. What is a girl to do when spring isn't warm and sunny? Well, dress appropriately for the weather. As I said many times on this blog, a great way to create that spring vibe while being dressed warmly enough is to rely on colours and patterns. Light colours like white can help bring spring in mind. Bold colours and patterns can also be a great choice. Finally, spring accessories can be another way to create that seasonal feeling.

A BOLD RED BLAZER PAIRED WITH A DENIM SKIRT AND A BOHO TOP
This is not the first time I'm pairing this red blazer with this denim skirt, because the two seem like such a perfect pairing. I'm a big fan of wearing crayon red with denim. When it comes to wearing denim, I like to either pair it with something classic ( like white or black) or with a bold shade ( like crayon red or yellow). I wanted this outfit to feel like a spring outfit despite the day being pretty fresh, so I layered this denim skirt with a blazer and wore a white bohemian style top underneath (it's actually a boho dress so I got even more layering down). This also served to dress this denim skirt up a little. That brings me to my next point....

DRESSING UP A DENIM SKIRT
A denim skirt is a great classic. One thing I like about it is the fact that it is so easy to dress it up. All you need is a nice bag and a pair of heels.  For this outfit I opted for this chic leather bag I got as a present from a friend. I paired my heels with tights to keep warm. Accessories are a lovely way to dress any outfit up too. A nice pair of sunglasses always comes in handy and the same goes for a pretty pair of earrings. Statement earrings are one of the trends I'm really happy to see around.

I'll also include a photograph from one of my old posts. Just in case some of you are enjoying warming weather right now and are looking for some outfits that are more late spring/ early summer appropriate. If it was warmer, the outfit bellow is probably what I'll be wearing. We've already established that I like the combo of bold red and denim. You know having a blog really makes shopping one's closet that easier. It is like having a virtual closet you can access anytime you want. I know us bloggers sometimes complain about the down sides of blogging, and while they are definitely there, we can't deny that blogging has its perks as well. Blogging helps us capture moments, teaches us about the importance of editing (and thus prioritizing), engages our creative skills and makes us learn new things. There are definitely benefits to blogging, as time consuming as it surely is. Do you agree?

  8. I love a denim skirt! They're so versatile and can be combined with anything. Plus, they can be dressed up or down. I think that denim and red is particularly striking, especially when the red item is a blazer as lovely as yours! I've actually been looking for a denim skirt for a while, and have been scouring the charity shops as I want it to be new-to-me. I've got a particular shape in mind - not unlike yours - but I haven't found my true love yet! Have a lovely Friday and weekend, Ivana! xxx

  9. I'm a big proponent of shopping my own closet as well. Some of my favorite pieces have been with me for many years and I still reach for them regularly. You're right that it is one great way to be sustainable when it comes to fashion. This outfit is a great example of shopping your closet. Red and denim always make a winning combination!
