100 HOUR PAINTING OF VRBOSKA VILLAGE ON ISLAND HVAR

Today I'm excited to share with you my new acrylic painting of Vrboska village on island Hvar. The title of the painting is: Lost in Time. That's what this village feels like to me: a magical oasis lost in time. In other words, Vrboska served as a perfect inspiration for this sun-bathed painting. The painting itself took me about 100 hours to finish. It was a very labour intensive piece and I worked on it for two weeks every day. I don't know how well you can see it, but I spent hours working on the tiny details, making sure I captured every shadow. I used a photograph taken by my husband as a reference, but I made some small changes. For example, I didn't include myself in the composition because I wanted the attention on the fishing boats. The painting was a challenge. It required a lot of work and it caused me joint pain. I think it was worth it in the end because when I look at it, I really feel as if I was there in Vrboska. You will see the reference photograph once you scroll down. As you might remember, I blogged about this gorgeous fishing village a number of times.

FIRST TIME APPLYING ACRYLIC VARNISH TO A PAINTING
This might sound silly, but this was actually my first time applying an acrylic varnish to a painting. I just followed the tutorials I found online and hoped for the best. I think I did alright. I  really liked the result and I think my painting looks even more vivid now. I also applied varnish to another painting of Vrboska I did last summer (see it here ).

I have had some inquires about this painting, but I haven't sold it yet. If you want to make an offer for this painting, you can email me in the course of next week at ivana.kardua@gmail.com. After that time, I'll probably take this painting to one gallery, that is, if I don't sell it myself before that.

  3. Hey Ivana,

I was watching your process through Instagram and you really nailed it! I really like this new series of paintings inspired by the water and boats, I'd say it is a really good source of inspiration for an artist like you!

You nailed with the way you painted the blue waters, they really send me peaceful vibes.

This Vrboska village could seem like a normal place, but you managed to capture the beauty in it!

    1. Thank you Pablo. I love painting boats, it might have to do something with my childhood. I spent a lot of time in boats when I was a child.
