TWO CASUAL WAYS TO WEAR AN OVERSIZE TARTAN SCARF

Today I have two outfit proposals with you, both of them suitable for everyday wear and both of them featuring an oversize tartan scarf. It is still quite cold, and it seems like winter isn't going anywhere. So, cozy outfits seem to be in order. Oversize scarves are simply perfect for creating cozy outfits. If you remember, I already posted some tips on styling an oversize scarf beige (here). Today I'll show you two ways to way an oversize tartan scarf. When it comes to prints, tartan is always a classic.

STATEMENT COAT WORN WITH A STATEMENT SCARF

We'll start with a bold combo.  They say red and pink shouldn't be mixed, but I was never one to follow that rule. Anyhow, in this case I mixed a red (and blue) tartan scarf with a dark pink (magenta) coat and I was quite happy with the result.Who says you can't wear a bold scarf with a bold coat? I think these two items are perfect for one another. I wore this coat with jeans and ankle boots. I accessorized with a burgundy bag and a white beret. Aren't berets a wonderful winter accessory? I quite like this white one. I wear this white beret pretty often, it seems to go well with everything. Plus, it adds a touch of French chic to any outfit. What more can a girl ask for?

In case anyone is wondering where these photographs were taken, the city you can see in my background is Mostar (Bosnia and Herzegovina). This city is a great place to visit, and winter is just as good a time for a visit as spring is (in case you're scouting winter locations & vacation options). Moreover, Mostar is quite photogenic, so if photography is your main vacation preoccupation, this might be  a good city for you to vacation in. The only downside to this city is that it is not litter free. You can even see some on my photographs. Such a shame, isn't it? This panorama is otherwise breath-taking, but I choose not to delete the litter from the photographs because I want them to be authentic. Scroll down to see more (the location for the other set of photographs is also Mostar city).

A STATEMENT SCARF WORN WITH A BLACK COAT

My second outfit proposal is more classic. This time I paired an oversized scarf with a black coat. The colours of this look are pretty neutral. Black and denim feels like a timeless combo. To make the outfit a bit more interesting, I opted for a nice braided hairstyle. A nice hairdo always adds some visual interest to the look. I must say that I quite liked how this winter styling turned out. I think it looks put together, but still not formal. A perfect outfit for everyday wear.

INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT TARTAN PRINT

I've been a fan of tartan print for as long as I can remember, but I wasn't always familiar with its history. Naturally, one doesn't have to know everything about this pattern to be able to appreciate its beauty, but knowing a bit more about it can inspire us even more. Traditional patterns can be such an wonderful source of inspiration for sure. These kind of patterns are often intricate and unique. What is more, traditional patters have soul to them. It is something we feel even when we don't know some garment's or pattern's history.  The history of tartan is particularly interesting. Today we mostly associate tartan with Scotland, but according to some historians, tartan like fabrics were used by ancient Celtic populations spreading across the British Isles as early as the sixth and the eight century BC. Well, that one old pattern for sure! However, even if tartan clothes are really as old as ancient Celts, it is the still Scotland that is responsible for tartan we know today. Did you know that different tartan patterns can represent different Scottish families? Something like a family's personal coat of arms. I think that mighty inspiring, don't you?

That would be all for today.  As always, thank you for reading and enjoy the rest of your weekend.

  5. Ooh, that tartan scarf is a beauty! It looks like a wonderful blanket that you can snuggle into in a myriad ways should the weather take a nasty turn- head scarf, shawl, wound round and round - the possibilities are endless. I particularly like your first take on it- it looks really pretty with that pink coat and YEEEES to berets!! I seem to be wearing less hats since cycling to work though as I need my helmet on which is sad!
I really like your second hair-style. I am USELESS at hair so I am in awe of your coiffing abilities!

  10. Beautiful tartan. I am Scottish so my family does have its own tartan and a coat of arms. You have styled it perfectly both times. Mixing colors is bold and fun! That is a shame that there is so much litter in Mostar. The view is wonderful.

  13. I agree that there's no reason not to wear a statement coat with a statement scarf. The way you combined them is beautiful.

The city really does look lovely. It's too bad that there is so much litter. Thank you for keeping your photos authentic.

I also love your second outfit. Denim always looks great with black like you said.

Learning a bit more about tartan was so interesting. I didn't know that different Scottish families are associated with different patterns.
