A little black skater dress and a green winter jacket (location: ethno village Herceg, Bosnia and Herzegovina)

Green happens to be one of my favourite colours. I love all shades of it, except maybe for that ugly shade of green that is on the cover of The Perks of Being a Wallflower (on the other hand maybe this copy I have is a bit worn out). I've just finished that novel btw and I absolutely hated it. I don't remember when I read something as bad as this novel. The writing was horrible, just horrible. I have a feeling that the author (that would be Stephen Chobsky) included every single psychological issue/trauma he could think of and just cramped it all in there in hope of managing to emotionally blackmail readers into liking this book. Well, it worked out for him, the book became a bestseller but I still think it's a cheap trick. Anyhow, the book left me feeling frustrated because you know I lost a couple of hours of my time reading this poor excuse for a novel. Well, you can't win them all. I had amazing luck with books last January, and you can't get lucky all the time. At least I know that the next book I pick up won't be as bad as this one so there you go.

Back to the theme of green colour. As you all know, green is a secondary colour. That means it contains both the calming energy of the blue and the vibrant energy of yellow. It is a very popular colour with both fashion and inner designers, as it is believed to have a harmonizing and balancing effect. Most would agree that it is a relaxing colour. In religion it often symbolizes new life (rebirth), hope and triumph of life over death. Green is the colour of plants and it is what often comes to our mind when we think of nature. Last year greenery was the Pantone's colour of the year, this year it's ultra violet and these two actually play well together. How do you like ultra violet? I'm a big fan of violet, so I'm all for it and seeing it combined with green just feels right. However, today I'm sharing with you a green and black outfit.

Speaking of shades of green, how do you like the combination of medium greens (for example basil, sade, moss) with light greens (for example chartreuse, pistachio, lime)? I really like that combination of colour, but I also think that dark green makes for a good match with both medium and light green. What are your favourite shades of green? I love emerald, seafoam, shamrock, pine, pistachio, lime, mind, seaweed and parakeet. Allright, that sounds like I'm just listing them all but well I'm partial to this colour and attracted to various shades of green.  When it comes with combining green with other colours, black is always a good choice if you're not feeling especially bold or playful. A little black dress will look good with just about anything and it can be a good base for creating a stylish outfit.

In this outfit, I paired medium and light green clothing items (jacket & scarf) with a black skater dress. I think this particular cut is a nice way to jazz up the old LBD formula. This happens to be  the only skater dress that I own, but I'd say I'd picked a good one. The material is very thick and warm. I will probably be wearing this dress often enough. I don't think you can see it, but it is a sleeveless dress. Do you wear sleeveless dresses in Winter? I do. Moreover, I think they're actually great because they allow us to layer our outfits. Wearing a shirt under a sleeveless dress can be a fantastic way to make your styling more elegant and/or formal. I didn't wear a shirt this time, but maybe another? I just love this long chartreuse scarf. I've had this scarf ever since I can remember and I guess that makes it vintage. I think it's made from wool because it doesn't feel that comfortable on the skin (wool never does) but it is very warm. Good thing about a long scarf is that it gives you more opportunities for styling. For instance, you can always tie it up in a cute bow. For me there is something very chic about tie bow scarves (and blouses).

Now, a few words about this location. I've been visiting this Herceg ethno (located in Bosnia and Herzegovina) village for years. I've seen it grown and I got to say, that was fun. Every time I visit, Herceg village seems a bit larger. These photographs have actually been taken fairly recently. We even ended up stopping for a lunch here and the food was pretty good. We stopped dinning here after one bad experience, but it looks like the food has approved again, so there you go.  If you want to see more of this place, you can check out my old visits  below:

Nothing beats a sunny Winter day. There is something especially refreshing about the combination of mild cold and sunny weather. I won't play brave, I'll be the first to admit that I'm not very resilient to extreme cold, but I actually like mild cold. I've finally warmed up to Winter and learned how to enjoy this season. For the last few days it has been very warm here and it feels quite unnatural. I'm not a fan of the rain we had lately either. Some of the almond trees already blossomed in Mostar ( I might remember to take a photograph). I hope that the weather will become normal again. All these weather changes can be a bit challenge for our heath. Dressing can be sometimes difficult as well. On this particular day, I had no such difficulties. I wore this cute outfit and I was very comfy and warm. Good times. This is why it is a good idea to take photos when you're feeling good. Reflecting back on past times is always fun. I suppose this is one of the advantages of blogging. We remember to take photographs more often. Do you agree? Has blogging changed the way you take photos or perhaps even the way you think about photography?

  1. You look lovely in that outfit! I really like the way you've tied your scarf in a bow too - I need to be more adventurous with how I tie my scarves :)

I find green a tricky colour to wear, although I have been trying to wear more of it in recent months. It's nice to try things a little different now and then :)

Hope that you are having a lovely weekend :) We are having a relaxing one, much needed after a hectic week!

  3. Hello Ivana, hope you're having a nice Sunday :D

Love to see you happy in these pictures and how this place fills you with energy and good vibes, also the look is great to spend the weekend in a stylish but comfy way, love the way you tied your scarf (reminds of Gucci bows over the last season) and it is definitely a creative thing to when we get bored of the way our accessories look ;)

Green is definitely not my favorite color to wear, even tho I like it in my plants but I have a crush over militar / olive green, promise to wear this color more often.

Gonna stop at the last posts i missed :) Best regards and hope you have a good week ahead!

  10. Green is such a lovely color and the way you've worked it into this outfit is really chic and feminine. Tying your scarf into a bow is just adorable!

  11. Lovely scarf, playfully worn! Green looks beautiful on you as a brunette! Especially dramatic paired with black. How do you get time to read bad novels? OK< I understand, it's a deep passion of yours, reading, and sometimes it just doesn't turn out as good as we hope. I'm that way with movies, but to be honest, less and less so. I rather reread something or re-watch a wonderful movie than spend my time on a new thing that doesn't bring me satisfaction. And I totally agree with you, sometimes authors just use such cheap tricks, I end up feeling... well, manipulated if not used, you know? Urgh.

I love green, as you know, and practically all shades, just like you - olive, forest, sea foam, sage, mustard green (or swamp green), emerald, chartreuse are some of my strong favorites.

Such beautiful blue sky! And gorgeous images of you in this village. I started taking photos regularly long before blogging. My brother and father are both photographers, and I remember developing films with them when I was just a kid. I then started taking our film camera on my rare trips (to St Petersburg, for instance), then I got my own Kodak and continued taking pictures of my everyday life and travels, back in the 1990s... When I moved to the US, I got a digital camera, and taking photos became my everyday activity, both as a passion and a way to share my life with my family back in Russia. I still take pictures almost daily and write about our life to my fam on a regular basis. I used my own photography in all my previous blogs, but the current one is Justin's domain. :)

    Lots of love!

HOW TO STYLE A BROWN FAUX LEATHER COAT?

Today I'll show you a couple of ways to start a brown faux leather/ faux fur coat. We'll start with a more dressed up version. Now, this brown coat comes with a faux fur hoodie and that gives it more of a casual vibe, similar to that of a parka jacket. So, I decided to dressed it up with accessories (always the best way to dress up an item). I paired this coat with predominately black accessories: a pair of stilettos, a bag, a pair of earrings and a headband. I also wore a statement necklace. The dress I was wearing under the coat was a simple grey dress (bought at Terranova some time ago), so I wasn't afraid to pile on the accessories.  Scroll down to see and read more.  DIY HEADBAND PROJECT: HOW I HAND SEWED THE FLORAL APPLICATIONS You already had the chance of seeing this DIY headband many times, but it's been a whole since I showed you how I actually made it. I found some floral applications and just sewed them onto the headband. I often avoid gluing in my DIY proj…

10 STYLE LESSONS LEARNED FROM MALENA/ MONICA BELLUCCI

With summer being in full spring, I caught myself thinking about iconic summer outfits. Do you know what came to my mind? Costumes/outfits worn by Monica Belluci when she played Malena Scordia in an iconic Italian movie set on Sicily.  The costumes for that movie were designed by an acclaimed Italian costume designer Maurizio Millenotti and he outdone himself! Seeing that Malena is a historical movie, Maurizio choose quite timeless outfits and cuts that will ever go out of style. That fact makes Malena movie the perfect place to look for inspiration! Moreover, I feel that Monica Belluci's personal style is quite similar to Malena's (i.e. to the style of the character she is playing). There is definitely a Mediterranean lady feel about Malena/Monica Bellucci. What says summer better than Mediterranean and Sicily? Today we'll analyze Malena's style and see what we can learn from her. There is much to learn! Having analyzed looks that Monica wore in iconic Malena film, I…

20+ WAYS TO WEAR A TARTAN BLAZER FOR COLD WEATHER

Tartan is a true classic if you ask me. If you are a fan of this pattern, you might enjoy this post. Today I'll show you 20 plus ways to style a green tartan blazer for cold weather, starting with how I wore this green tartan blazer a few days ago. It was such a lovely day! Don't you just love those sunny winter days? I always feel better when it is sunny, even when it's a bit cold. On this particular sunny day, I decided to wear my tartan blazer. I wore two layers under it and topped it with a faux fur stole, so I was feeling quite warm and cozy. I paired it with a dusty pink skirt and a very comfy (and old) pair of brown heeled boots.

Anyhow, when I went on this sunny stroll with a colleague of mine, she complimented me on this green tartan blazer. That made me reflect on how many times I have worn  this tartan blazer. While I didn't keep a written record and cannot give you a precise number, I can tell you that this green blazer is one of the most worn items in my …
