In front of my grandmother's house (outfit post) / Ispred kuće moje bake (odjevna kombinacija)

We're back in Gdinj. This time in front of my grandmother's house, not on her terrace. The origin of the world Gdinj is, most likely, to be found in an old Slavic word meaning forest. Indeed, this part of the island is very green. In the folllowing days, you will have the chance to learn a bit more about this little village as I plan to write about it in more detail. In the meantime, you can see last years posts here and here. Now, about the outfit. I wore this outfit to church. This white skirt used to belong to my mother and I wore it over a dress. It's something I do often because I don't own enough tops. To make this retro and feminine outfit more interesting, I added a  faux leather and stone necklace I had made myself. You had the chance to read why stones fascinate me so much in my last post. Plus, I sure do love it when a necklace is a statement piece of an outfit

To često radim, jer nemam puno majica u ormaru. Kako bi učinila ovu retro i ženstvenu kombinacju malo zanimljivijom, dodala sam ogrlicu od kamenja i eko kože. Mogli ste u prošloj objavi pročitatit zašto me kamenje tako fascinira. Uz to, doista volim kada je ogrlica centralni dio odjevne kombinacija.

  11. Oh dear Ivana, this is my favorite outfit post: your attitude, the composition of it, the picturesque area, you smiling and laughing. And because I love red too!
Few times I wore myself dresses as a top, for the print/colors combo, so I think I don't have enough tops neither. Or we like much to play?! :)
You look sexy, very elegant, feminine, love the yellow mix and match thing!

  30. That is actually a great idea! I have so many dresses.. and I could easily use them as tops! Though.. I usually prefer to wear my tops on the outside, because I don't have that much of a well-defined waist. You, on the other hand, look gorgeous in this outfit! :)

Love these photos.. your grandmother lives in a nice place that has a very authentic and traditional feel! :)

  40. Firstly, I really like your idea for the next posts, because I'd love to know something more about this village and some of the island of your country in general :) What's more, I love your outfit, this skirt, which used to be your mum's skirt is stunning, personally I find is as quite modern, not retro at all :P What about your comment, I think that your idea to sew every single stone is really great (but I suppose that it's also time-consuming), because ready-to-wear necklace looks really unique :) You know me, I'm huge fan of every fashion recycling so keep your great work up, Ivana :)

  54. So special to have the link across 3 generations in this post: your grandma's house, wearing your mother's skirt - which, by the way, looks excellent worn over a dress-as-top. And you're right, your hand-made statement necklace really provides a focal point to the whole outfit.

HOW TO STYLE RED CLOTHING ITEMS FOR WINTER?

A few posts ago (yes, bloggers calculate time in post activity), I wrote about red accessories for winter but I also wanted to write about red clothing items you can wear this time of year. In fact, I was planning to write a big post about wearing red in winter but I realized that I need to split it in two because it was too long. Apparently, I have a lot to say about why wearing red in winter is a good idea. So, today I'll basically post the part two of my red in winter fashion musings. Red is a bold, energetic and dramatic colour. If you ask me, wearing red is a great way to invoke good luck in our new year. You can pair red with neutral colours to tone it down or with vibrant ones to make your outfits even more noticeable. Lunar Year festivities are a perfect time to embrace the red clothing items. Moreover, Valentine's Day is not too far off either. If you're looking for some winter red outfit inspiration, you have come to the right place. HOW TO WEAR RED IN WINTER?   My…

READING UPDATE: KAZUO ISHIGURO, THE BURIED GIANT AND MORE

Hello dear readers, how's life treating you? It's time for another reading update on my blog. You guys know that I'm a bookworm and a reading addict, right? Today I have a couple of book reviews to share with you. I'll be reviewing four books (more precisely: two novels and two short story collections). It's a mixed crowd of writers that I'm reviewing, from Nobel winning Kazuo Ishiguro to some other well known authors. So, let's get started. Scroll down to read my opinion of these books.  THE BURIED GIANT, A NOVEL BY KAZUO ISHIGURO 5/5 Having seen a fascinating interview with mr. Ishiguro about this very book, I had high expectations for The Buried Giant. I'm happy to report that my expectations were fulfilled. Once again, Kazuo Ishiguro impressed me his subtle and beautiful writing. This novel is a masterpiece. The Buried Giant is very moving tale of an elderly couple in search for their lost past. Axl and Beatrix share a strong connection, but just lik…

10 STYLE LESSONS LEARNED FROM MALENA/ MONICA BELLUCCI

With summer being in full spring, I caught myself thinking about iconic summer outfits. Do you know what came to my mind? Costumes/outfits worn by Monica Belluci when she played Malena Scordia in an iconic Italian movie set on Sicily.  The costumes for that movie were designed by an acclaimed Italian costume designer Maurizio Millenotti and he outdone himself! Seeing that Malena is a historical movie, Maurizio choose quite timeless outfits and cuts that will ever go out of style. That fact makes Malena movie the perfect place to look for inspiration! Moreover, I feel that Monica Belluci's personal style is quite similar to Malena's (i.e. to the style of the character she is playing). There is definitely a Mediterranean lady feel about Malena/Monica Bellucci. What says summer better than Mediterranean and Sicily? Today we'll analyze Malena's style and see what we can learn from her. There is much to learn! Having analyzed looks that Monica wore in iconic Malena film, I…
