A prom dress
I remember my prom quite well, despite the fact that it was a decade ago (literally a decade). The way proom was organized in my school and in most of the high schools here is that we would chose one of our classmates to be our 'date.' Boys being more numerous than girls in my highschool, they would usually end up with two dates. Well, I always thought it was silly that people must have a date to go to a proom. That's why I'm happy that where I'm from we don't really do that 'date' thing. A date is just a friend you walk into the ballroom with and once the proom is over at about 2 or 3 am, we all go clubbing together. All in all, my proom night was a quite pleasent evening and I remember it fondly. Being very pleased with the dress I wore certainly made the night more enjoyable.
My dress was long and I felt very glamours in it. I think that the question that most girls ask themselves is what length should their proom dress be. What colour is also a frequent dilemma. I don't think there is a right answer to that question. What is important is that you feel special in that dress. That is the criteria that any dress for any formal occassion should fit. Today there are so many fantastic options out there that we are almost spoiled for choice. I remember that I gave my prom dress to a cousin of mine because I knew that she hates shopping and trying on clothes and it fit her perfectly. However, nowadays she would probably just order the dress online.
When I was contacted by PromTimes, I decided to chose a few favourites. I will explain why these dresses were the ones that caught my eye the most.
This little dress is simply divine. Because of the lace and the detailing it looks so glamours. I would say that a dress like this one would be perfect if you don't want a gown. The open back is always very attractive ( even if it requires a special bra if you are a size C or bigger). I can't decide do I like this dress better from front or from the back. I imagine any girl wearing it would feel like a modern princess. LBD is a classic, but for your proom night, you might want to jazz things up a little by something like this one.
This gorgeous white dress I selected because it reminds me of my own wedding dress. My wedding dress was actually not a real wedding dress. I saw it by accident in a a random store and had to buy it right away because both me my husband liked it. Back to this dress and why I like it. I think this cut of the dress is very flattering. White is always a good choice and the silver detail is a nice touch. In my wedding dress I felt like I was walking on clouds, it was the most comfortable dress I ever wore. That's why I would consider wearing something like this one. You might end up feeling like a Greek Goddess and that's not a bad feeling at all.
This beautiful long sleeve dress is stunningly beautiful. Lace is always a very chic choice. I remember I was estatic with joy when I managed to find a dress with lace sleeves for my first communion. Back at the day, our first communion dresses were sewn by nuns and we would just borrow them for the day, so finding the one you like in the sea of similary looking ones was tricky. The long lace sleeves on this dress are very feminine. Yellow is a very trendy colour right now...and wearing yellow you certainly won't go unnoticed. The open back adds a bit of subtle sensuality. So, that is why I really like this one.
Here it is: the first dress I have ever made entirely by myself. I did make some summer dresses in the past, but I had sown them without a pattern and a sewing machine and at any rate I wouldn't call them very accomplished. I mean, they weren't nearly as polished as this dress and they were not nearly as complex to make. I'm very happy with how this dress turned out. I'm even happier I took this sewing course in the first place because now I can make more dresses like this one! If you remember my November highlights post, you might remember that I've mentioned how I've recently finished a beginning fashion tailoring and sewing course with designer Stanka Zovko.
I promised to show you the dress I made for my course 'graduation'. At the end of this lovely sewing course, you get to choose not only what you're going to make, but also the material and the pattern. The sewing pattern is typically chosen from one of the sewing magazines this designer has …
You have seen (more or less) what was February like for me. Now tell me... what was February like for you? Are you happy that it's already March or do you feel like time is flying too fast? Are you looking forward to the spring?
As far as blogging goes, it seems that I have became more focused on fashion illustrations. In the next month the illustrations will have their place, but there will be more focus on DIY....or at least I think so, because I'm kind of heading in that direction. Apart from that, I have no plans. I have so many ideas when it comes to what I want to blog about, that I often have hard time deciding what not to include. As always, feel free to write about what you would like to see.
With winter at our doorstep, I think it's important to make the most out of the left over autumn days. With that in mind, my husband and I payed another visit to our favourite (still not officially opened!) ethno village in vicinity of Medugorje. I wrote about this eco/ethno village a number of times, so if you want to know more (or just see more photographs) feel free to check out my old posts here, here, here, here and here. Autumn is Herzegovina is always gorgeous, and this year hasn't been an exception. We had some sudden weather changes and drastic changes of temperature, but I would still describe this autumn as a beautiful one. The Sunday this photographs were taken on was rather gorgeous, so I'm certainly glad we went on this little trip. I know I'm repeating myself, but I do cherish moments like this. Every time I step into this little village, I feel as if the time has stopped or rather like I have just travelled in time. It's such a charming place! I h…
