Ulyana Sergeenko: Autumn/Winter 2013/2014

I just loved Ulyana Sergeenko's collection for autumn/winter 2013/2014. The women is a genious.

I would go so far as to say that no one is really quite her. In what sense? Well, in the sense that she manages to incorporate so many various elements into her style and still have a signature finished look to her collections.

Obviously, she is deeply rooted in the Russian tradition and I really like how she can take something from folklore and make it fresh and just drop dead gorgeous. At the same time, she admits to beings inspired by the retro and vintage looks and says she buys most of her vintage clothes (30,40, 50, 60ties) in the States.

I mean, US vintage style + Russian folklore?! How is that ever going to work? But it does. It really does and if for nothing else that is enough to make her endlessly fascinating. It is a brave thing to do something like that. Most people would probably have said it is impossible. I guess she proved them wrong.

Lady with a very unique style. That is how I would sum her up. As a fashion icon, she is the embodiment of style...and it seems to me that she does project her personal style onto the catwalk in the perfect way.

Enough said. Let's take a look at some pieces from her new collection.

COLOUR

For most part she has gone for basic colours: red, grey, black and white but she has made them her own and really made them a part of her vision.

GREY

Grey has never looked better. She really knows how to make the most of this colour.

BLACK

What gorgeous material! All the black pieces look so glam and shiny... there is just something very luxurious about them.

WHITE

Her white pieces remind me of Swam lake....or of Snow white. Anyhow, there is something very dream like (and fairy tale like) in her white pieces, don't you think?

RED

Bloody red...again I cannot help thinking about fairy tales. Cinderella meats pin up?

FUR
One thing she is also famous for is the usage of fur in her creations. Whatever you might think of it, probably we can agree that from the aesthetic perspective these pieces are beautiful. (I can understand why some may criticize her for it, but in a country with such cold climate isn't it kind of necessary?)

Thank you for reading and do tell me what you think of this collection.

    1. ma da...nekako se ne mogu zamisliti u krznu, ali opet mi je nekako licemjerno osuđivati ljude zato što nose krzno pogotovo tamo gdje za tim postoji potreba.

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
