June has been an interesting month with lots of crazy weather changes, but at least we were not bored... Lipanj je bio zanimljivi mjesec sa puno ludih promjena vremena, ali barem nam nije bilo dosadno.

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
Science proved that life on Earth originated in the sea but in our hearts we must have always felt it. Why otherwise would we feel so inspired by the sea? Who of us has not felt his or her heart opening up while mesmerized by the deep blueness of sea? Is it an echo of an oceanic birth of life? Is it our soul that wanders enchanted towards that greatest mystery? We feel the song of the sea, even when we don't understand it. A SELECTION OF CROATIAN POETRY RIKARD KATALINIĆ JERETOV 1869-1954 Born in Volosko (Istria, Croatia), died in Split. With summer being in full spring, I caught myself thinking about iconic summer outfits. Do you know what came to my mind? Costumes/outfits worn by Monica Belluci when she played Malena Scordia in an iconic Italian movie set on Sicily. The costumes for that movie were designed by an acclaimed Italian costume designer Maurizio Millenotti and he outdone himself! Seeing that Malena is a historical movie, Maurizio choose quite timeless outfits and cuts that will ever go out of style. That fact makes Malena movie the perfect place to look for inspiration! Moreover, I feel that Monica Belluci's personal style is quite similar to Malena's (i.e. to the style of the character she is playing). There is definitely a Mediterranean lady feel about Malena/Monica Bellucci. What says summer better than Mediterranean and Sicily? Today we'll analyze Malena's style and see what we can learn from her. There is much to learn! Having analyzed looks that Monica wore in iconic Malena film, I&
Hello dear readers! Today I'll share my review for The Lathe of Heaven, a novel by Ursula K. Le Guin. I've read this novel only a couple of days ago and it's still very fresh in my mind. Would it come as a surprise to you if I said that I absolutely loved it? To regular readers of my blog, I'm sure it wouldn't. Le Guin is one of those writers I always come back to. I've read, reviewed and enjoyed many of Le Guin's book, so when I spotted his one in a local library I didn't think twice. Once I picked The Lathe of Heaven up, I had a hard time putting it down. I found the story quite easy to read and follow, but simultaneously very engaging and interesting. I warmed up the protagonist immediately. The original and inspiring story kept my interest through the novel. The Lathe of Heaven is a novel that has aged well and kept it relevance. Published in 1971, this science fiction novel was nominated for Hugo and Nebula award. The Lathe of Heaven won
It's been so long since I shared a painting on my blog. The reason for this was simple. I decided to stop posting my art because of online AI theft. Anything that get posted nowadays is automatically stolen by AI. There are ways to try to protect one's self but they are not very efficient. In addition, I didn't feel the need to post my art regularly. I still don't. Not on social media anyway. Not that I have any social media, except for my blog and LinkedIn ! I need Linkedin for my work and blog for my leisure. When it comes to posting one's art online, there are valid arguments for and against it. It's a complex topic I shall not get into right now. If I were to write a post about pros and cons of positing one's art, I'm assuming it'd take me at least five thousand words to get my points across. So, I'll leave that for some other time and just explain why I don't post art (or at least not as much as I used to). First of all, I generally do
Hello, dear readers! In this post, I shall review Eugene Onegin , a verse novel by Alexander Pushkin . I decided to reread this surprisingly short novel, so that's what I did. In fact, I finished it yesterday. If you want to read a Russian classic that isn't desperately long, this is a solid choice. I first read it years ago, probably during my student days. Speaking of student days, this is the novel that your Slavic literature professors will pull out of their hat when you define a novel as a work of prose. What about the famous verse novel Eugene Onegin , they will ask you with a triumphant smile on their lips (and that'll teach you the value of precision). “But whom to love? To trust and treasure? Who won’t betray us in the end? And who’ll be kind enough to measure Our words and deeds as we intend?” Alexander Pushkin, Eugene Onegin My strict Slavic professors taught me many important things and I'm grateful for that. For example, the value of speaking fluently an
Today I have a book review and recommendation to share with you: Roadside Picnic, a science fiction novel by Arkady and Boris Strugatsky. In addition, I'll share two summer outfit proposals, one very suitable for daytime and other perfect for those warm summer nights. So, let's get started. The novel I'm going to write about today falls into the domain of science fiction. I've published my review on goodreads a few days ago. For readers of my blog, I'll try to do better than that and write a bit more. If reading isn't your thing, no problem. You can just check out the outfits and skip the book talk. I've read this book online for free as it is in the free domain ( here is a great side to side English to Russian translation of Roadside Picnic ). This was my second book by Arkady and Boris, my first one was the Inhabited Island (sometimes translated as Prisoners of Power) and I liked that one as well. I recommend you to read both of these books if you like dys
Hello dear readers and fellow bloggers! Today I'm taking you to a historical fortress overlooking Ljubuški city in Herzegovina. Located on a strategic position, at a high of almost 400 m (396 to be precise), this magnificent fortress offers truly breath-taking views. The fortress is assumed to have belonged to Herzeg/ Grand Duke Stjepan Kosaca (alternative spelling Styepan Kosacha /Stjepan Kosača) and was built in 15th century. From what I have managed to find online, it is believed that built this fortress after solving a dispute with his sons. Although it is possible that the Grand Duke built it on remains of another older fortress or just adapted a much older fortress, its construction is commonly attributed to him and dated to 15th century. What is certain is that the fortress indeed belonged to him at some time, as there are historical records proving just that. The Grand Duke was one of the most powerful people of his time and there are many folk tales about him. This is
Today I'll review a true classic of children's literature: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz , a book by L. Frank Baum. I have read this book fairly recently, so it is still fresh in my mind. I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised by T he Wonderful Wizard of Oz . I actually enjoyed it a lot, so my book review is also a book recommendation. This classic of children literature is such a well rounded tale. You can read The Wonderful Wizard of Oz for free on the pages of project Gutenberg here (that's also the source for the quotes I'm going to use). First, a few words from the author himself: Folklore, legends, myths and fairy tales have followed childhood through the ages, for every healthy youngster has a wholesome and instinctive love for stories fantastic, marvelous and manifestly unreal. The winged fairies of Grimm and Andersen have brought more happiness to childish hearts than all other human creations. Yet the old time fairy tale, having served
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY LADIES! I've worked for 12 hours straight today, so I'm pretty tired. Still, it was a good day. I love this holiday, honestly. I love being a woman. It's such a wonderful thing! Despite my long day, somehow I managed to find the energy to go through my blog archives and come up with 15 reading recommendations. READING RECOMMENDATIONS FOR THE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY 1) HUMAN ACTS, A NOVEL BY HANG KAN 4/5 READING UPDATE: TWO BOOK REVIEWS (HUMAN ACTS BY HAN KANG AND HOGFATHER BY TERRY PRATCHETT) (modaodaradosti.blogspot.com) Human Acts is a beautifully written tale of a historical tragedy. This novel is very potent and meaningful, but it is not the easiest book to read. Set in the midst of a tragically ended student uprising in South Korea, much of the novel focuses on the death of a young boy named Dong-ho and the effect his tragic death had on his family and friends. It speaks of a painful time in South Korea's history, of th
