INSPIRED BY D&G AUTUMN/ WINTER COLLECTION 2019/2020 (PART 2)

This is my second and final post dedicated to Dolce & Gabbana Autumn Winter 2019/2020 Collection. The reason why I needed two posts was because this particular show featured hundreds of runaway looks and a number of trends. As I explained in my last post, I decided to split my trend analysis & commentary in two posts. In my first post, I have analysed ten trends showed in the collection. Today I will analyse the eight remaining trends. I know this seems like a lot of trends, but what can I say? It was a collection rich in trends. In addition, I'll write about how these trends inspired me to start shopping my closet for autumn and winter. Disclaimer- For creating collages, I used photographs from the official D&G site. All the fashion illustration included in this post are my own.

POLKA DOTS FOR A VINTAGE DIVA THAT SHINES WITH FEMININITY
Polka dots advocate femininity and glamour. One could argue that the polka dots print is timeless.  While I would certainly agree with that logic, I must also notice that in some years the polka dot is more popular than in others. In D&G Autumn Winter 2019 2020 collection, the polka print was used not only for dresses and tops but in form of socks. We saw it mixed with other prints and materials (such as tartan print and sequins). It also appeared in a form of two strikingly beautiful dresses. If you ask me, the polka dot print is perfect for channeling your inner vintage diva. The polka print can add a touch of feminity, grace and retro chic to any outfit. Seeing this show, I'm inspired to wear more polka dot print this autumn and winter.

STATEMENT COLOURED COATS FOR AN EYE-CATCHING AND COZY GLAMOUR
Another trend I couldn't help noticing in the Dolce & Gabbana 2019 2020 collection are the statement colored coats. I've been a fan of statement coats for a while. They are easy to wear and can be simply the perfect thing to add some colour into our autumn and winter outfits. So, when I saw them represented in this collection, I was quite happy. Surely, this is one runaway trend that translates easily to every day life. We could see many statement coats among the new D&G designs. Besides coloured coats, statement coats also took the form of art deco, brocade, bathrobe and sequined ones. I already showed you some examples of those in my last post, so now I will just turn your attention to the coloured coats. D&G duo opted to design there statement coats in a number of colours of styles. I can hardly say which style and colour I prefer the most, they are all absolutely fabulous.

ART DECO AS A PERFECT TRIBUTE TO THE ROARING TWENTIES
The roaring twenties are a big part of the new D&G Autumn/Winter Collection. They are represented every step of the way, from the perceptibly tailored suits to the heavy usage of sequin, feathers and metallic fabrics. There is a definite vintage feel to this collection: the twenties, the thirties and even the forties are clearly visible in this collection. However, these past times are invoked most strongly and directly in the art deco painting motives applied to various clothing items: dresses, coats and skirts. In many D&G runaway designs we could see the silhouette of a classical art deco beauty. Painted in art deco style, these beautiful portraits show vintage ladies rocking bob haircuts, the signature red lip and lavish hair ornaments. These paintings and illustration depict a typical beauty of the Gatsby era. The clothes themselves are also evocative of this period, but the inclusion of art motives takes the homage to the art decor period and the roaring twenties to a whole new level.

YELLOW AND GREEN - COLOURS THAT APPEAR IN MANY DIFFERENT SHADES
Yellow and green are two colours that are prevalent through the coloured part of the collection. First of all, they are often part of the sequined and metallic looks. These two colours often appear in their metallic versions (gold and bronze). Secondly, they are also represented in different tonalities. Mustard yellow and mustard green shades are often favoured in this D&G collection. Their presence is not surprisingly and it seems a logical continuation of their previous collections, as we have been witnessing this designer duo make the usage of mustard greens and yellows for some times. Some of you might remember that I illustrated some of those mustard runaway looks in the past. I found them just as inspiring in this Dolce&Gabbana Autumn/Winter collection. Moreover, yellow and green also appeared in its brighter incarnation. There is one statement bright yellow runaway look that features a yellow coat that looks fabulous paired with yellow tights and dress. Finally, the yellows and the greens are also presented in the floral print designs as well as in the brocade and embroidery fabrics,  accessories and the collage work. Speaking of the fabric collage work, that's a whole new trend!

WEARING PEACOCK BLUE AND GREEN TO REVIVE THAT OLD SCHOOL GLAM
Speaking of colour, there is another colour that deserves special mention and that is peacock blue. It is by no accident that this colour made its way into the new D&G collection. Peacock motif was a very common one in the art deco period. In fact, the art deco simply adored peacocks for their decadent beauty. In facts, peacocks were symbol of wealth, glamour and beauty since the ancient times. Peacock blue and green simply had to be a part of this collection. Dolce&Gabbana Autumn and Winter collection put the peacock blue and green forward by choosing it for a number of its classical midi dresses. Moreover, peacock blue and green was also present in the details, especially the art deco ones. If you want to revive that old school glam, look for this shade in your closet.

INSPIRED LINGERIE & FANCY PJ LOOKS FOR A DECADENT PRINCESS LOOK
Lingerie, indoor and lounge wear inspired designs are nothing new. The slip dress and the fancy PJ looks have followed us for a couple of seasons already. However, the D&G duo took a fresh turn by finding inspiration for their lounge wear in the past century. If you're on a market for lingerie inspired vintage designs, then the new D&G collection is the place to find it. Whether you're just looking for inspiration or planning to do some shopping, this collection offers the most beautiful and decadent lingerie inspired designs. To be honest, for me this lingerie trend is the trickiest trend to wear. You have to have a lot of confidence to pull out an outfit that looks like lingerie. If you're not that brave, you can always play it safe and wear a sweater over your slip satin or silk dress. You won't be too original (every fashionista has worn that look to death), but you'll probably look pretty and chic. I can think of a number of ways the lingerie trend can be translated for everyday. Opting for luxourius materials (or good imitations of such materials) is a good way to create that lounge wear look. Alternatively, you can recreate that lingerie feel by choosing the right accessories and details.

WINTER WHITES TO ACHIEVE A LOOK OF FLAWLESS ELEGANCE
I have already spoke about the black and the white trend in my last post, but it is also worth noting that the new D&G collection featured some strictly white designs. These all white runaway looks came in a form of impeccably tailored suits and tuxedos. When D&G proposed all white, they see it as an expression of utmost elegance and sophistication. It is not often that this designer duo opts for masculine cuts and fit for their women collection, but when they do, they explore the new kind of femininity. The strong shoulders of their suited looks add a new meaning to the power suit formula.  Their all white designs were also completed with beautiful white coats or/and long blazers. Translating these all white looks into autumn and winter shouldn't be too difficult for us. Personally, I plan to wear my white jeans instead of pencil pants and I do have a vintage white blazers that would play the part just perfectly once it time for me to create that winter white styling.

COLLAGE 3D GARMENTS AND FLOWER APPLICATIONS TO DAZZLE
This season D&G took a step in a new direction by employing the collage technique to their designs.  This collage technique was applied on a number of looks in varying degrees. Their floral designs, for instance, often appeared almost 3D. One floral collage dresses looked particularly ravishing. Moreover, the collage technique was also applied on a smaller scale. The floral applications are nothing new for this designer duo, but this season saw them stressed, often with the help of feathers and other art deco inspired elements. Often these oversize floral applications accentuated the floral print and made it appear more vibrant and real. Sometimes they were also used for accents. In any case, the collage technique applied to dress making is a trend we should look out for! With this trend, we are down to the last trend from the  D&G AUTUMN/ WINTER COLLECTION 2019/2020 .

Now, tell me how you feel about my trend analysis and interpretation. Did you find this D&G show inspiring? Did you like the second part of my post? Can you imagine yourself wearing these trends?

    Baci!

  9. What an utterly amazing collection! And what a thoughtful and in-depth review and analysis you've made. I've seen quite a few covetable pieces! Especially some of the coats, which I have a thing for. That reminds me that I actually got a D&G coat, from one of their retail collections, which I found at a charity shop last year. I haven't even worn it yet, as Winter was over by then. xxx
