FASHION ILLUSTRATION FRIDAY: RED TURTLENECKS FOR AUTUMN

Sometimes I miss those days when I took fashion illustration (and art in general) less seriously. When art felt more like a hobby, when I could draw something without being self-critical about it, without second guessing everything and without trying to study all the possible techniques to do it. However, once you start taking your art development more seriously, you inevitably get more critical about it. The more time and effort you invest into developing some skill, the more you expect results from yourself. It is only logical, I suppose, for there comes a time when art doesn't feel as easy to do as it used to, a time when you start to question your art and your skills. Suddenly, art becomes difficult.
You cannot have your cake and eat it. Not that I don't have fun with art anymore, but the whole process is growing more and more thought demanding. With every thing I learn, I discovered how much is there yet to learn. What I discovered is that art skills are much alike other skills. If you don't use them, you lose them. The development of art skills is not always smooth sailing.  If you want to make fashion illustration you'll be happy with, you have to work on it. It's an ongoing process. This also applies to art in general, not just fashion illustration as such. I wasn't too happy with what I have drawn today but it didn't stop me from trying. I studied some of my old illustrations and tried to figure out the direction I was taking. I have so many ideas right now, I hope I'll be able to develop at least some of them. Anyhow, today I'm sharing two new fashion illustrations with you as well as some old ones.
THE MAKING OF PROCESS- A GIRL IN A RED SWEATER
I prepared a collage for you to see the drawing process. The medium for this illustration is coloured pencils on paper. As you can see, it depicts a girl wearing a pair of dark grey skinny jeans and a red turtleneck sweater. I'm getting into the autumn spirit with my fashion illustrations, you might say.

I'm also sharing a collage with most of my recent fashion illustrating work. I'm starting illustrating for the next fashion season and in the process I'm finding some fashion inspiration too. I see myself relying on red accents this autumn/winter. How about you? Do you have any colour favourites?
THE MAKING OF- A GIRL IN A RED SWEATER WEARING AN OVERSIZE HAT
Bellow you can see the making of a illustration depicting a girl with an oversize hat. The medium is coloured pencils and marker on paper. I don't utilize markers for fashion illustrations often but sometimes I do use them and end up with interesting results. This illustration looks a bit like this one, doesn't it? Well, that was probably my inspiration for it. I just made this look more autumn-like.
A FEW MORE FASHION ILLUSTRATIONS WITH AUTUMN/WINTER VIBES:
Browsing my old illustrations, I found some that evoke Autumn vibes. Just what I need while I'm planning my transitional outfits. My husband recently commented that I must own more than a thousand fashion illustrations. I have never really tried counting them, but he might be right. I don't even know how many of them do I own. I own so many paintings, illustrations and drawings. Right now, I can only count the paintings that are on my walls. I haven't a clue how many of them I have in folders. If I decide to open a shop again, I will have to do an inventory and then I'll know for sure (right now my art is only available in the form of  Redbubble & Zazzle prints , posters and products).
As always thank you for reading and commenting. Have a great weekend ahead!

  3. I'm wondering where you find the time to do so many sketches, besides reading and travelling your beautiful country, hiking and blogging about it all. You are obviously talented at many things. And yes, I think you should nurture any talents you've got, and strive to do better and keep on learning. But do not forget the fun part. As these sketches are not only stunning, they are fun too. I love all the details in them, and the gemstones/jewellery you added to some of them. I wish I had even a smidgen of your talent. Have a lovely evening and Sunday, my dear! xxx

    1. well, since I work in the education sector I usually have more free time in summer (although in my case it is an unpaid summer leave so I typically also work on some free lance projects. Our schools and ministry of education like to fire teachers at the end of school year and hire them again once it starts, wonderful ways for the ministry of education to save money.) As for reading, I sometimes suffer from insomnia and can go through as much as two books in one night.

All your comments mean a lot to me, even the criticism. Naravno da mi puno znači što ste uzeli vrijeme da nešto napišete, pa makar to bila i kritika. Per me le vostre parole sono sempre preziose anche quando si tratta di critiche.
