WATERCOLOUR PAINTING OF CHURCH OF SAINT GEORGE (VILLAGE GDINJ, ISLAND HVAR)

Image
Today I'll share with you a new painting of mine. The subject of this painting is a church of saint George in Gdinj . This church dates back to the sixteen century and it is build in the Renaissance-Baroque style. It is often called the old church by the residents of Gdinj village (located on island Hvar). There is another church in Gdinj village, the one we call the new church, a fact that sometimes makes me giggle because 'the new church' is more than a hundred years old, just not quite old as this one. I'm afraid that sometimes in Croatia we take history for granted, just because we're surrounded by so much of it. I suppose this is true for other European countries as well. It is easy to get spoiled when you're surrounded by so many historical buildings and I feel we Europeans sometimes take them for granted. Being a  history lover, I tend to take notice of historical buildings but it often happens that I miss out on something. It is impossible to keep track...

HIKING OPTIONS IN MOSTAR CITY AND A SUMMER OUTFIT

Image
Isn't this view breath-taking? One of the things I love about Mostar city is that it offers lovely hiking options accompanied with stunning views. Mostar is literally surrounded by mountains and hills, making hiking easily accessible. While there aren't many official and marked hiking tracks available, you can always make your own way up by following country and local roads. Naturally, you can also hike in the city itself, but hiking uphill has its additional benefits. Exercise the same kind of caution you would everywhere else (when going hiking) and you should be fine. I'm sure you know the  basic hiking drill, wear comfortable shoes and sensible clothes, drink plenty of water and protect yourself from the elements. Since sun is quite strong here, if possible I would recommend hiking earlier in the morning and later in the afternoon when it is not quite hot. That also applies to visiting Mostar in general. Be cautious and take the heat warnings to heart. Mostar is a ver...

A SEASIDE PAINTING INSPIRED BY BAY TORAC, ISLAND HVAR

Image
Today I'll share a new painting inspired by bay Torac (island Hvar) with you. The medium is watercolour pencils on mixed media paper. As you might remember, I visited bay Torac (island Hvar) back in June. I had stayed in apartment 4044  for a few days until the official start of summer (that also happens to be the birthday of one family member), then I went back to Mostar. Hotels and hostels are also a good option for your Croatian vacation, but personally I prefer apartments because they offer cooking facilities. Speaking of island Hvar as a vacay option, if you still haven't booked your summer vacation in Croatia, the apartment I stayed in is free from 17th of August until the 23rd of August (you can book it right away with this agency  or you can make the reservation directly). If you remember, this apartment belongs to my parents, so if you want to negotiate a better price than what the agency is offering, send me an email and I'll forward it to them;). Nothing wrong...
