The Art of Layering a Summer Dress: Ivana's Guide For Easy Summer Layering (part two )

The first part of my guide for styling summer dresses was published a while ago (you can read it here), and today it is time to share the part two. Let's get the most of summer joys while we can! I'm always trying to figure out new ways to wear dresses in summer. As you might have noticed, I love wearing dresses. This summer I've been wearing my summer dresses with sneakers a lot, possibly in an effort to refresh my outfits a bit. However, as fun as switching footwear can be, sometimes even that can feel a bit repetitive. I'm always looking for ways to spice up my collection of dresses. Accessories are great but let's not forget about layering. There is no doubt that layering can be a great way to refresh our summer dresses outfits. Best part? We can do it by shopping our closets?

Layering in Summer can be a bit challenging but it is by no means impossible.  Having thought about it, I realized there is a number of options for layering summer dresses. Some of these options I have mentioned in my last post. Today I have prepared a new selection of outfits but before that let's get back to reviewing our options. As I pointed out, you can layer your summer dress by:
- wearing a vest with it ( see this outfit here),
- wearing a blouse, a t-shirt or a shirt over it ( example outfit here),
-wearing a cropped top over it,
- wearing a body chain over it,
- wearing a scarf around your waist (example outfit here)
- wearing a scarf as a poncho (here),
-wearing a regular poncho,
- wearing a skirt over it (here),
- wearingit with jeans or jeggings,
- wearing it with leggings,
- wearing it with shorts,
- wearing a crochet or sheer jacket over it.

Today I'll show you some other options for layering  your summer dresses such as wearing them with jeans, leggings and sheer jackets.

1. LAYERING A SUMMER DRESS: WEAR IT WITH LEGGINGS

Leggings are an obvious choice when it comes to layering of summer dresses. When it comes to leggings, you have two options: monocolour or multicolour (patterened) leggings. You can pick whatever you prefer, or what you already have in your closet. Besides black leggings, most of the leggings I own are printed ones. Scroll down to see my outfit proposals.

MONOCOLOUR/ BLACK LEGGINGS

To be honest when it comes one colour leggings, I usually go for black ones. They are easy to style and they will match most dresses really well. I don't have any leggings in skin tone, although those are a great option as well. Look in your closet and see what you can find. Maybe you can find some one colour leggings that match some of the dresses you already have?

PRINTED OR MULTI COLOUR LEGGINGS

Printed or multi colour leggings can be a bit trickier to style but it can be done. There is a way to wear printed leggings with dresses that isn't way over the top, though. Why not try to pair your printed leggings with white or black shirt dresses? If you're wearing a pair of printed leggings with a dress, you can always simplify things. Opt for less accessories and keep the rest of the outfit more basic. Alternatively, you can also opt for a cold look with lots of accessories. Pairing a pair of printed leggings with a printed dress can work well for those who love a more fashion forward outfit. Why not try mixing the prints? Or alternatively you could pair similar print leggings and dresses?

2. LAYERING A SUMMER DRESS: WEAR IT OVER JEGGINGS

Denim and summer dresses. I do like the sound of that! Jeans and jeggings can look fabulous worn with summer dress. I have one pair of leggings that I often wear with summer dresses. I wear them with dresses in other seasons as well. Long story short, try pairing jeggings with dresses, it can be a lots of fun. It is also a very comfy outfit formula. Plus, it is the perfect solution if you're worried that a certain dress might be too short for you.

3.LAYERING A SUMMER DRESS: WEAR A SUMMER DRESS WITH JEANS!

WHITE JEANS

White jeans are perfect for summer. Wear them with white dresses to achieve a perfect all white summer styling. You can also style your white jeans with a printed dress, if you want to infuse more colour in your outfit.

BLUE JEANS
Blue jeans can be worn with different kind of dress. I like to combine them with blue toned dresses, but sometimes I also wear them with lighter floral print dresses. It all depends on my mood. Jeans and dresses is such a cool combo. I first wore it back in my high school days and I have loved it ever since.

4. LAYERING A SUMMER DRESS: WEAR A LIGHT  CARDI OVER IT

Sometimes the evenings and the mornings can be a bit fresh. Why not style your summer dress with a light cardigan then? A nice cotton cardigan can be a good option for layering dresses in summer time. A fuchsia cardigan like this one can be a great way to infuse more colour into your outfits.

5. LAYERING A SUMMER DRESS: WEAR A MESH, LACE OR A SHEER JACKET WITH A SUMMER DRESS

I wore this mesh summer coat with dresses before, but all I managed to find in my archives was this jeans outfit. I think you get what I mean, though. Mesh and sheer jackets or coats are summer appropriate and hence a great way to layer summer dresses.

Sheer jackets and coats are also lovely for laying with dresses. Plus, sheer materials are really trending this year. I had this sheer black cardi/jacket for years and I wore it with dresses for many a formal event! In fact, I bought this sheer cardigan to wore over my first Communion outfit. Sometimes it feels like that was yesterday. Time really flies.  Anyhow, that would be all for today. I hope that this post will help you with your summer layering. Have a great day!

  7. Adding a piece on the bottom is such a terrific way to layer and transform the look of a dress. I used to love to wear button front midi dresses unbuttoned over a tank and jeans to create the look of a long vest and you've inspired me to try it again :)
